By suggestion of several people on a Facebook critic page, I tried this place. I never even heard of an arepa before this place opened, so I was excited to try one. I had the pollo arepa and I was very pleased. The garlic sauce was a great addition. I will definitely have to come back to try something new. read more

We found this nifty little food truck outside Cultivate Brewing Company. We ordered a Pollo arepa to snack on while drinking our beer. If you're visiting it's location at Cultivate, you can order outside and bring it inside to eat -it seemed very popular inside the bar at our visit. The Pollo arepa itself is a perfectly fried and crispy cornmeal bun stuffed with shredded chicken and garlic sauce. The garlic sauce was delicious, and I wish there was just a little more of it. Otherwise, it was very tasty. At $5.99, a little pricey for that little nugget -but man, it sure did taste amazing with my beer!!! read more

AREPAS! I've never had Venezuelan food before, so I'm very happy that my first experience was here! I ordered an arepa with plantains, black beans, and beef. My fiancé ordered an arepa with beef and cheese. A white garlic sauce comes on both - it is savory and delicious!! I usually dislike plantains, but these tasted sooooo good with the beef! The shredded beef is very fresh and juicy. I will be coming here a lot :) read more

I lived in Venezuela my entire childhood and ever since moving to the States have been on the lookout for authentic national food. I've road-tripped great lengths for a Venezuelan meal, so imagine my shock when I heard that there was a Venezuelan food truck opened RIGHT HERE in Saint Joe! I headed there today with a group of people and we got all the empanadas, a plate of pabellon, and several arepas. Delicious! It reminds me of the little empanada stands on the streets of Puerto Ayacucho and Caracas. The empanadas are a great value, and the arepas are stuffed with piles of spicy filling to make them worth the price. The texture of the masa (dough) is perfect: light and crispy and deep fried for a fluffy crunch. A lot of people try to bake their arepas and that turns them heavy and thick. Frying them is the traditional way and soooo good. This was such a fun, delicious, positive experience. We are already planning on going back tonight for supper. Definitely getting another pabellon arepa and a chicken empanada. So tasty!! While his base station is this location at the lookout in St. Joe, the owner did tell me that he often drives to other locations for festivals, concerts, or later afternoons. So it doesn't hurt to check his FB page for updates or call ahead just to check. Highly recommend!!! read more

Arepas and empanadas are so yummy! We love that they have vegetarian options. The garlic sauce is so great - definitely get that to dip your empanada in. Don't forget the rice pudding for dessert. It's delicious. The service is always great. You will not be disappointed! read more

Pabellon was pretty spot on if a little messy. Haven't been to Venezuela but was just in Colombia and from what I can tell this is pretty authentic. The arepa was softer than some of the crispier one I've had which I enjoyed just made the meal a little messier than anticipated as I failed to eat it in the car. Pro tip: grab some napkins and enjoy preferably at the picnic tables and not "de pie" read more

What a great find Delicious Venezuelan Arepas Food is delicious, with a great view of Lake Michigan you must stop read more

This is the second time I've been fortunate to catch this ridiculously good truck and the Watermark in Stevensville. Two of the best things in one place- beer and Arepas. Several meats can be chosen from and are perfectly seasoned. There are standard recipes with ingredients like avocado, onions, cheeses or garlic sauce. You can also throw out the rule book and get it any way you want! Several vegetarian variants also. Service is great with the hustle you see from most mom and pop food trucks. Don't miss a chance to try it!! read more

We always stop by lookout park in St. Joe before heading back to Chicago. We usually take a pizza for the family. Was pleased to see Sammy Arepas parked there. Sampled a few (chicken, beef, sifrina, Arroz con Leche for the kids' dessert). David and his team make this family run food truck a pleasant stop for authentic bites along the lake. Do yourself a favor, change it up by switching out the burger or pizza for some authentic Venezuelan cuisine and an awesome view of the lake from one of the picnic benches. Will definitely hit up Sammy Arepas next time we're in the area. David - food trucks are all over Chicago, come visit us. You'd kill it over here! read more

A little bit pricey, esp if you are a big eater. However, the pabellon is delicious. The magic is in the garlic sauce. Definitely worth a try! read more

Delicious Venezuelan cuisine! The owner is friendly and happy to explain the menu. GF and vegan options are available. My arepa (chicken, plantains and black beans with a yummy creamy garlic sauce) was outstanding. My son loved his chicken and cheese arepa. Plus, you can't beat the view! We will definitely be back. read more

Arepas are a traditional food in Venezuela and Colombia. When done right, they are moist rich patties of fried or grilled cornmeal, thick and soft but with enough substance to encase savory meat, vegetables, beans and other delicious fillings. At Sammy Arepas, they are most definitely done right! This food truck, tucked away in a tiny park with stunning views of Lake Michigan, is a hidden gem. I had the Pollo, which was moist flavorful shredded chicken with a creamy and slightly spicy sauce, encased in two slices of their Oh So Delicious Arepa. Simple, flavorful and filling, for slightly north of $6 including tax. Sit at one of the park picnic tables or benches (which the food truck staff keep squeaky clean), and enjoy your South American feast under the warm sun as you view the seemingly endless blue waters of Lake Michigan. read more

The gorgeous scenery of the lake and a delicious bite of Sammy's Arepas are a must have combo for a nice evening out. Even if you're passing by definitely give this cute orange food truck a try!! The Pabellón arepa choice is the best ever! The cornmeal arepa has perfect crunch and the ingredients complement each other perfectly. Besides they have the best Brazilian soda available! read more

Sammy Arepas - Best Venezuelan taste in the city!!! The Arepas are bomb!! - Food Trucks Near Me - Buchanan, Michigan

Oh my goodness, my taste buds are in LOVE!!! I ordered the plate of pabellon. They were out of rice, so they gave me a couple of arepas instead. I'm so glad, because these are great. And the shredded beef is amazing! I've seen the truck in the area a few times, or on the move, but I've never had a chance to stop before. Now? I'm going to be *chasing* this truck! SO yummy, and a good value, too. read more

AWESOME food! If you want variety from traditional Latin American food, this is the place. Find their truck all over SW Michigan areas and you won't be disappointed. Their sauces are a delicious addition to the taste. I really like their foods b/c I can't have spicy foods. Their menu offers just the right amount of spice to not burn your taste buds. HIGHLY recommend! read more

You will not regret visiting this food truck! Their food was outstanding. The pollo empanada made my mouth water! Also recommend the the empanadas!! Hopefully they will visit South Bend again soon! read more

I am glad that I tried this Venezuelan food truck because I have never had this type of food before. I had a chicken one with cheese and garlic sauce and it was good and my fiancé ordered a beef one that kind of tasted liked pulled pork. We ordered an extra one to share which wasn't needed because we were full off of just one. The pictures make the sandwich look small but you will be fine with just one because they really fill them. read more

Love a good food truck. Wish we had more cruising the streets of Berrien County. This one was parked on Father's Day at Dablon Winery and did a nice steady business. Mum, the BF and I sampled quite a bit. They indulged my wish for a side of fried plantains. Yum. The chicken salad was fresh and fantastic, nice chill against the warm arepa. The service was friendly and efficient. Can't wait to try some more menu items. read more
