By suggestion of several people on a Facebook critic page, I tried this place. I never even heard of an arepa before this place opened, so I was excited to try one. We found this nifty little food truck outside Cultivate Brewing Company. We ordered a Pollo arepa to snack on while drinking our beer. If you're visiting it's location at Cultivate, you can order outside and bring it inside to eat -it seemed very popular inside the bar at our visit. The Pollo arepa itself is a perfectly fried and crispy cornmeal bun stuffed with shredded chicken and garlic sauce. The garlic sauce was delicious, and I wish there was just a little more of it. Otherwise, it was very tasty. At $5.99, a little pricey for that little nugget -but man, it sure did taste amazing with my beer!!! read more

AREPAS! I've never had Venezuelan food before, so I'm very happy that my first experience was here! I ordered an arepa with plantains, black beans, and beef. My fiancé ordered an arepa with beef and cheese. A white garlic sauce comes on both - it is savory and delicious!! I usually dislike plantains, but these tasted sooooo good with the beef! I lived in Venezuela my entire childhood and ever since moving to the States have been on the lookout for authentic national food. I've road-tripped great lengths for a Venezuelan meal, so imagine my shock when I heard that there was a Venezuelan food truck opened RIGHT HERE in Saint Joe! I headed there today with a group of people and we got all the empanadas, a plate of pabellon, and several arepas. Delicious! It reminds me of the little empanada stands on the streets of Puerto Ayacucho and Caracas. The empanadas are a great value, and the arepas are stuffed with piles of spicy filling to make them worth the price. The texture of the masa (dough) is perfect: light and crispy and deep fried for a fluffy crunch. A lot of people try to bake their arepas and that turns them heavy and thick. Frying them is the traditional way and soooo good. This was such a fun, delicious, positive experience. We are already planning on going back tonight for supper. Definitely getting another pabellon arepa and a chicken empanada. So tasty!! While his base station is this location at the lookout in St. Joe, the owner did tell me that he often drives to other locations for festivals, concerts, or later afternoons. So it doesn't hurt to check his FB page for updates or call ahead just to check. Highly recommend!!! read more

Pabellon was pretty spot on if a little messy. Haven't been to Venezuela but was just in Colombia and from what I can tell this is pretty authentic. The arepa was softer than some of the crispier one I've had which I enjoyed just made the meal a little messier than anticipated as I failed to eat it in the car. This is the second time I've been fortunate to catch this ridiculously good truck and the Watermark in Stevensville. Two of the best things in one place- beer and Arepas. Several meats can be chosen from and are perfectly seasoned. There are standard recipes with ingredients like avocado, onions, cheeses or garlic sauce. You can also throw out the rule book and get it any way you want! Several vegetarian variants also. Service is great with the hustle you see from most mom and pop food trucks. We always stop by lookout park in St. Joe before heading back to Chicago. We usually take a pizza for the family. Was pleased to see Sammy Arepas parked there. Sampled a few (chicken, beef, sifrina, Arroz con Leche for the kids' dessert). David and his team make this family run food truck a pleasant stop for authentic bites along the lake. Do yourself a favor, change it up by switching out the burger or pizza for some authentic Venezuelan cuisine and an awesome view of the lake from one of the picnic benches. I am glad that I tried this Venezuelan food truck because I have never had this type of food before. I had a chicken one with cheese and garlic sauce and it was good and my fiancé ordered a beef one that kind of tasted liked pulled pork. We ordered an extra one to share which wasn't needed because we were full off of just one. Love a good food truck. Wish we had more cruising the streets of Berrien County. This one was parked on Father's Day at Dablon Winery and did a nice steady business.
