This is a low rent dive bar that has a couple of pool tables and a small outdoor covered option to go with the inside area. The menu is basic consisting mostly of burgers and sandwiches along with a daily special M-F. On a Saturday, I had a hamburger and fries and with a beer and with tax was it only $10 so the food is affordable. Taste wise it was ok but nothing more. The daily specials during the week might be better. I wouldn't expect anymore from a place like this. After all it's just a low rent dive bar.... read more

Been Coming To Sammie J's for years. Always a great time and fun crowd. They got Pool tables on the inside and Giant Jenga on the out side. Plus grub ready to order up any time. The beer is cold and the and the staff is always smiling. Definitely a great place to drop in if you're in the area. read more

Came on a Wednesday night for their steak night. Good sized prime rib (or t-bone) salted and peppered cooked the way I liked it, medium rare. They left the fat on it so made for good flavor. Baked potato with fixings that you fix yourself at the small set up area along with an ice burg lettuce salad. Also available was some au-juice with mushrooms that you could put over your steak. Oder took about ten mins and I devoured in about 5. Delicious. Friendly staff was attentive and checked on me enough without being pestering. Smiles all around. No draft beer, bottles only. Straight up a dim lit neighborhood 'dive' bar. Comfortable and a place you can go repeatedly for a beer or two and they learn your name and know your drink. Outdoor side patio is spacious and looks comfy but I didn't spend anytime out there as it was cold. Also is where the grill is set up for grilling the steaks. Left before it happened but looks like they are doing s karaoke night on Wednesday and Friday's starting at 9pm. Might have to come back to watch the spectacle. read more

Sammy Js is a cool little hole in the wall bar. They make a nice steak, have cheap beer, hire DJs, have crawfish boils, etc. The place gives you a small town feel despite being in a semi sketchy area of Houston, which is nice. It can get a little ratchet there at night, both entertaining and concerning. It's a Trailer Park Boys kind of vibe if you're in the mood for it. read more

Sammie J's was recommended by my hair stylist when I told her I had taken a job nearby and I am glad she did. I am giving them 4 stars primarily for the food. The onion rings were handmade and light and yummy. The burgers were great as well. We just met there for lunch today (a weekday) but would like to go back when we could have a beer or two. Yes, it is a divey type place but then I like those kind of places. Usually, the best people hangout at them, especially bikers like us. Not everything in the world needs to be new and improved. Previous reviews are obviously baited. This place needs new management and a remodel. Bathroom is disgusting and well drinks are overpriced @ $5. No drink or lunch specials. Closed on Sundays. I wont drag it out, will not return or recommend. I will however return when the name changes and has a new management banner. read more
