absolutely disgusting by this company - my husband who has a CDL license said this was an absolute joke! My daughter will be driving a Ford F150 - it's almost brand new - the instructor pulls up in a vehicle with a tarp on her window and then inspects our truck (I understand this is required by the state of Michigan) but have your instructors represent your company better! She did not adjust anything for a larger vehicle to parallel park and failed her before even going on the road! My daughter was adjusting the truck to fit in the spot more perfect vs what she told her was that she should have just "thrown it in there" and that the position doesn't matter! wow just wow! ACCORDING TO MICHIGAN STATE TESTING, THE SIZE OF THE PARALLEL PARKING CONED SPOT, SHOULD BE THE LENGTH OF YOUR CAR, PLUS 6 FEET, THIS COMPANY FAILED TO CHANGE THE CONES PER MICHIGAN STATE LAW, AND THEY REQUIRED MY SON TO PARK OUR LARGE SUV, INTO A SMALLER FRAMED SPOT, THEY NEVER ADJUSTED THEIR CONES TO THE STATE REQUIRED LENGTH, FAILING MY SON. IF THEY HAD A ZERO SCORE FOR THIS COMPANY I WOULD GIVE THEM ZERO STARS, THEY ARE NOT FIT TO OPERATE IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN. I felt the attitude of the tester, which it appears was his first day on the job, was not professional, very unhappy individual, not a welcome sign coming from his greeting. He was being given instructions how to test by his boss, right in front of us, before the test for about 8 minutes, while his boss hid his smoking beside their car. The tester in the car himself, was an amateur, my son said that made him nervous, because the tester appeared rigid and without any expression of a friendly attitude, a negative tone of voice. The boss, who seemed to be a chain smoker, on the side lines, said my son had some points taken away for moving the car into a more advantageous position. The cones were set up where our car could barely fit, only about 14 inches on either side of the our car, once it completed its deployment within the cones. The boss defended the cone placement has required by the state, but the cone appeared to placed differently than photos I have seen online from other testing companies. Theirs were place to where it was more of a box, making it more difficult to swerve into the spot, instead of 3 cones, they used more to represent the other cars and the cones came out far from the make believe curb. I realize there is a state requirement, but it appears from photos I have seen of other testing locations, they place cones further out from the make believe curb, making it more difficult to swing into the small spot. I repeating this because, it appeared set up to fail the student, to charge them for more than one test. My opinion. Finally, I got the strong feeling, they wanted my son to fail, so they could test him twice, since none of their cars were being used and were sitting in a lot nearby. The low 75 dollar price was a way to get him into their system so they could test him more than once. Their negative attitude toward myself and my son, especially by the tester, before, during and after the test, gave my son little confidence, since their instructions were brief, without displaying any sort of normal attitude, a professional testing person would display to a student for their success. Good luck with your own experience, my experience was definitely negative. I spent 21 years at AT&T, as a headquarters staff manager with 35,000 employees, my job, Customer Service Manager for Southern California AT&T operator services department. I was also the telecommunications manager for the Olympics, worked for Shell and Ashland Oil, I know attitude. I will preface this email by stating I am not the type of parent that unreasonably aids in my children's defense. I fully understand the importance of driver safety and wholeheartedly support driver's education. Yesterday my daughter took her road test with a woman who, by all accounts, should not be an instructor. Using intimidation tactics with teens who are first time drivers does more harm than good. Not to mention it makes them even more nervous. From the very beginning when we walked into the driver's school, this woman was cold and unwelcoming. In fact, she never smiled once nor introduce herself, so I am unsure of her name. During our time out I took notes in real time, all which are time stamped on my phone. The following are actual occurrences of the instructor's behavior and how inappropriate her actions and comments were: - "You don't stop at a roundabout, you just go." When my daughter stated "but there are other cars" the instructor said "it's yield, not stop you just go". This is a SINGLE LANE roundabout with five cars using the actual roundabout at this time. Unlike multilane roundabouts, it doesn't not have designated lanes for exits. If my daughter would've listened to your instructor, we would've got hit. At this roundabout, there is no way to tell if the oncoming cars are getting off at the first, second, or third roundabout exit. I drive this roundabout everyday, it's at the end of my street so we are very familiar with how they work. - "The speed limit is 45, not 43, not 46, it's 45. Every time you are under or over the speed limit that's a point". I understand the importance of going the speed limit. This was said as we are accelerating from a red light, so yes, initially she was going 43. I would like to know what driver consistently goes the EXACT speed limit it at ALL times without going slightly under or over by a speed. - In a residential neighborhood, my neighborhood where I live, there was a car parked in the street. This left little room for two passing cars to go simultaneously. The instructor scolded my daughter because she waited for the car traveling in the opposite direction to pass so we could go. Our residential street isn't that wide and there was no room for the other traveling car, my car, and the parked car to fit all at the same time. Not only was she scolded for waiting, she was scolded for not going 25 mph while waiting for the car to pass. Now, if the instructor would like students to drive her car Dale Earnhardt style while play chicken with oncoming traffic and parked cars in a residential neighborhood, by all means. - Most importantly, at 13:14, as I have previously recorded, she instructed my daughter to turn left on Auburn road. The left arrow was yellow, my daughter slowed down. The instructor said, and again I quote, "It's a flashing yellow, yes flashing, which means caution." After pulling into the school, the instructor said "you would've passed if you didn't run the yellow arrow". The instructor failed my daughter for turning on a yellow arrow when she explicitly told her to turn. To reiterate, during the drive, she, the instructor, stated it was a "flashing" yellow light and instructed her to turn; however, proceeded to say she ran a "yellow light" which is why she failed her. Antagonizing, belittling, demeaning, and intimidating are not traits of an instructor. And, after a review of the location's online reviews, seem like a common theme and unresolved problem which needs to be addressed. Do your instructors purposely fail students to gain more income? Unfortunately, from my experience and those of others, that is exactly what it purports to be. My daughter should not have failed for doing what the instructor specifically told her to do. She should not be scolded during a drive for going 43 while accelerating from a red light, my van isn't very fast nor is it furious. Teenagers should not be told to go head on with another car in a residential neighborhood just to avoid waiting behind a parked car while they pass. Again, I will admit when my children are wrong, but in this instance, your instructor was completely out of line. read more

I do not recommend this company. First time my son lost his paperwork so the drive was cancelled and $80 wasted. Second time he failed the test because of parallel parking. The instructor was RUDE!! This is regarding the Canton location. Very rude instructor. He did not smile, ridiculed my son and failed him before even getting out of the parking lot bc he didn't come to a complete stop at the building (not even approaching the road). Then he asked him if he thought he should pass him. My son said no, bc what kind of answer did he expect? He then had him go onto the road just to turn around and park to say he failed. Young people are nervous as it is, They could use a friendly face. He also didn't acknowledge me after he failed him, which I found disrespectful. This is a place that just wants your money. This place was referred to us by Official Driving School in Canton. They should stop referring to this place! the staff do not know how to schedule, how to discuss things ahead of time, and they charge an extra fee for just about everything. We paid the $500 for the test. We called and scheduled the test, which their staff person scheduled and then the day we show up, the staff person tells us there hasn't been enough time between her Segment 2 certificate and her driving date. So that was a day off school and a day off work. It was rescheduled for April 29th, and then I received an email, actually 3 emails modifying the appt from the 29th, to the 25th and then 26th. I called and explained again to them that it had to be 4/29 or after. They scheduled it for May 1, and we had to pay that additional fee to change the date ($30). This seems unethical. Today is May 1, the instructor, who was extremely rude, had her get in the car and test her parking skills, and she hit one cone. So the instructor told her she had to reschedule because she failed and we have to pay again! Later we measured the parking spaces and she had the parking spaces smaller than the car. So it was impossible to park without hitting a cone. To sum it up - I agree with the other 10 or so people on this site that Same Day Road Test company gets a zero for customer service, for knowledge, for scheduling. read more

Rochester Location Total scam! Their trick is to try to fail you as quick as possible without letting you take the time you paid for to see what areas you need to improve. If they fail and get you out in 10 min then you can keep paying the fees over and over again. My son parked straight and left plenty of room front and back and the instructor said well what if this was a truck or SUV then he would need to pull in farther. Like what? Test him on the car he's driving which was a Venza. Not some make belief pretend bullcrap in your imagination. I drive with my son all the time and am notorious for pointing out mistakes and being a back seat driver. He is a good driver, probably better than some that have had their license for years. I wish I was there instead of my wife I would have slapped the taste out of Steves mouth! Other schools will let you take the entire exam then evaluate you so you know what to work on for the next time. These people just want your money and could care less about the customers. Lazy and greedy scum bags, take your money elsewhere! After reading all these reviews I can see this is a common practice for these low life blood suckers. I plan to report them to the BBB, SOS, and any local news channel that wants a scammer story. Wish that I would have read the reviews prior to scheduling my daughter's road test. Experience was very similar to April M's review except it was a female instructor. The instructor's harsh behavior towards my daughter before she had even started the exam creating great anxiety. Apparently this resulted in a failed parking segment. My daughter has been very proficient in these tasks for quite some time so her failure seems very strange. When they returned to the office the instructor just told me that we were good to go and she scampered into the office. I wrongly assumed that the test was a pass and didn't find out differently until on the way home when she broke down in tears. I also would give no stars if possible. read more

I scheduled an appointment for my son 3 weeks ago for the Rochester Hills location. The appointment was for 9:15am today. I received a text at 7:47am stating that my son could not take the test because his Level 1 license was expired. It expired last month on his 18th birthday before I even made the appointment. I responded to the text saying that this information would have been helpful if it was received prior to the day of the appointment. They implied that I should be grateful because they saved me a trip. I was then told that I will be charged a $30 late cancellation fee. I believe that the late notice was on purpose. It didn't allow me enough time to rectify the situation or cancel the appointment without being penalized. They made an easy $30. read more

I should have taken warning and listened to the other reviews and went else where. NOT GOOD, DON'T USE THIS PLACE FOR TESING!!!! I will not use this place for testing ever again. I needed to reschedule after they told me the eligibility date was until 2 weeks from the day I had scheduled (to which I was told at SoS I had only 1 month to make the appointment and test so I was on time according to that information). However at the testing site they told me they would put this appointment as a "no show", even though I was right there in front of them, and that after the cancellation that I would need to pay again for the test they did not performed. I called to their customer care but doesn't help at all and they just transfer you to the testing sites which already wants to charge again for the test. So much for the "PROMISE" to be fair and helpful from their web page, more like a promise to find a way to make you pay again for anything they can. read more

After being unable to get into a road test site near me, I read the reviews on Same Day Road Test and all the reviews for "Melissa" were positive. Several people stated that she was super nice and made the kids feel at ease. I decided to book them for my daughter. I never received a copy of my receipt when I booked online. We arrived at the test site 15 mins early as indicated in the text message that I received at 5:13am the day of the test. (mind you the test was scheduled for 845am) At 8:39am I called Same Day as the instructor was not present. I was informed that he would be there shortly as he was out on a test. He arrived shortly thereafter. We approached our instructor, Dan, and he asked for our paperwork. He wrote down several things and told my daughter to get into their company provided vehicle to begin the parking portion of the test. Dan was not the friendliest of people and made my daughter more nervous than she already was. He read things to her like a robot Drill Sargent and wasn't helpful in giving her tips or suggestions. After 10 minutes we were told she missed 10 points, and we would need to reschedule. I asked for more information and was told I would receive a "report" via email by the end of the day. (I never received said report.) I called back when I got home and rescheduled her for the next day and was told I was all set. I asked for a receipt to be emailed to me in which I was told "I sent it twice already and I don't know what to tell you" (I never received that receipt either) Today at 10:43am I received yet another text message only this time I was told they were cancelling my road test due to the "weather conditions". It was sunny although we were expecting some rain in the afternoon. Nothing severe was predicted by any new outlets. When I called, I spoke to one lady (I didn't get her name) and explained that there was no rain and I wanted to know if I could get this done earlier perhaps. She put me on hold in which the after several minutes another lady picked up asking to help me. I explained I was on hold with another person and asked if had been transferred, she sharply replied, "yes". She was extremely rude and didn't want to assist me in any way. She more or less was give to me to get me off the phone. Nicole said her examiner, Dan told her there were severe thunderstorm warnings in our area and that she was going by what he said. I told her it was sunny here and that was untrue. Nicole then proceeded to tell me that since my daughters' permit expires tomorrow and she will be 18, that I need to take her to the SOS and pay another $25 to get her permit transferred to an adult permit and then schedule a road test. After explaining that I just wanted to get the test done today as there was no bad weather, she said she needed to have a manager call me back. I asked when I could expect that call in which she responded "I don't know" the call was then disconnected. No refund, no report, no receipts, and surprise...no call from the so-called manager. The lack of professionalism is disheartening with this company. If anyone is looking for a road test for their child and you are considering Same Day Road Test...RUN! Do not take your test here. This is the rudest I have ever been treated In customer service. I was charged a fee because they saw me practicing in the parking lot before that, and said that was also an automatic failure. Doesn't make sense to me that practicing for a test is a failure. I then got a call that my grandfather was in the hospital and in critical condition on speaker phone before the test and asked to reschedule and the worker rolled her eyes sighed, and proceeded to tell me that is another fee. I booked the day before for an early morning session and was a little hesitant but tried it anyways. I was so nervous especially since I failed the first time through with courtesy (who I do not recommend). I took my road test at Same Day road tests Rochester Hills location with steve who made me feel so comfortable. He knew exactly what to do. I was out driving for about 30-45 minutes. He ended up passing me but also gave me pointers on what I should fix. I HIGHLY recommend this place over any other driving school, and I have been to a few. read more

This complaint is for the Ann Arbor, MI branch, but they are all the same company. My daughter was scheduled for her test today. She arrived on time and went to the testing area. She was never told she had to go check in inside a building anywhere. The lady with the clipboard was talking to someone else for approximately 20 minutes. When my daughter finally was able to talk to her, the lady was rude and condescending and said that she could not test because she was late - because she didn't check in - because she WASN'T told she was supposed to check in. They told her that they "forgot" to send her the email explaining how and when to check in. The employees saw her standing there that entire time and ignored her. She tried to resolve it by asking if she could still test - the facility DOES offer walk-ins, so there should be no reason to tell her no. They were rude to her and sent her away telling her to "take it up with the main company." They told her she'd lost her $100 and they could reschedule her for an additional $30 but not same day. So now they basically want $130 for a test she hasn't had the opportunity to have. They've now kept $100 for services never rendered. They need to refund my daughter's money. read more

Although you teach driver's education classes. My sister was taking a road test and it's cold outside and I and my mother were told cannot use their bathroom walk across the freeway to get to a restaurant. The test wasn't bad at all! I passed my parallel parking with no points at all! I get to the road test and i do good on everything. We got to the intersection at conners and she tell me to speed up going around a curved road. Yes i know i should've looked for myself but she told me any directions she gave i was to do so i sped up , apparently i drove past a yield sign. She begins to yell at me saying i put her life in danger when i don't get how when she told me to speed up. When we get back to the building she proceed to tell me she put me down for 15 POINTS for the yield sign.... my whole thing is where did 15 points come from with a yield sign... she had a nasty attitude and was speaking to me like i was a child. Instructor was unprofessional and didn't correct new driver in a timely manner allowing our vehicle to remain in harms way on multiple occasions. They need to recruit instructor's with better talent and professional demeanor! I had a great experience here! The receptionist was very friendly and polite over the phone and in person. I rented a car from them for $25 and the road test was $45. The instructor I had was nice and made conversation which was nice because I was nervous lol. I will recommend Same Day to anyone. I was failed on the parking test and wasn't even able to get on the road. It isn't fair that just because you can parallel park that you're not even allowed to get on the road. Terrible testing service. I had my test scheduled for 8am. It was a freezing cold day and I drove out 35 mins to Detroit with my dad. No one was on the building. I waited 45 minutes until I got a phone call telling me my test was cancelled. They have absolutely no respect for your time. I'm not writing a bad review solely based on the fact I was failed, but on the fact that I was failed for a very poor reason. I was failed because I shifted to the "left lane" even though there were no distinct lane markers after experiencing a stretch of road that could very well have done considerable damage to my vehicle, and took a right turn from that area of the road. After being failed we went to a nearby restaurant and spoke with the server about it and automatically there were multiple employees that either have been failed or were close to being failed over very obscure and indistinct things such as my case. We have recently called and actually received a refund therefore proving that they admit fault to at least a small degree in failing me unjustly, but the manager was already attempting to generate more revenue even in that brief phone call with us. We still have not received out refund due to the shady manner in which this process has been conducted. We are reporting them to the Secretary of State and we hope that anyone with further troubling experience may do so as well, read more
