I have been coming to this establishment for a bit. I think maybe i'm on my 2nd package with each package contains 4 or 5 treatments. Danville is a tad far from my home, which is SF. But since I liked what I saw and heard from Dr. Ellis' YT channel, I thought it was worth the drive to come here. I saw Dr. Ellis for the initial consult but since they've made her a partner at the practice, all my treatments were performed by a nurse. And I love my nurse, her name is Emily, she seems competent and friendly and funny. What's not cool about this place is: 1) The pricing 2) The front desk The pricing is much higher than other cosmetic practices in the Bay Area, incl in SF where I used to and still get some treatments done. To compensate for this, you'll need to buy a package, just to make the pricing comparable to other places where you could buy as a single treatment. The front desk seems to be employing a gestapo approach to customer service. So I made a mistake in my calendar with the start time, so I ended up arriving 1 hour earlier than the 2:30p appointment time that they texted me. I arrived and I told them I had a 1:30p appointment, but was informed that my appointment was actually 3:30p, with a 2:30p start time just going into a room waiting while getting my face numbed. I told them it seems that I've made a mistake but I do have a full day ahead of me and I live all the way in SF so I wanted to see if they could please let my nurse know that I'm there early. I was asking them for an accommodation for a mistake that I clearly owned. They wouldn't talk to Nurse Emily. They told me Emily is all booked with not a 5 min to spare. I told them that's fine, if they could please maybe leave her a little note letting her know of my situation. Loren at Front Desk initally told me yes they would tell Emily when she's out with a patient to the cashier at front desk, but within minutes, she had told her manager in the office and her manager came out to tell me there's nothing they could do. They wouldn't let Emily know! They also told me they absolutely have no spare room to put me in. But when I was finally admitted to my treatment room, I saw a ROW of empty rooms. Bravo! read more

I had my initial cosmetic dermatology consultation with Dr. Ellis which was booked more than 6 months in advance due to how busy their clinic is. I was so looking forward to this appointment since I use Dr. Ellis's Prequel skincare line and watch her YouTube videos. I thought the appointment itself was good, and I left the visit with a 3 month treatment plan. It went downhill from there. After I left, I realized I didn't have a follow-up appointment scheduled so I called the office to ask about this. I received a message on the patient portal in response stating that if my skin condition didn't improve, I should see Dr. Wall instead since I am Asian and Dr. Wall, also an Asian woman, is the clinic's "Asian skin specialist." In order to see her though, I would have to pay another $250 new patient consultation fee. I was not given an option to follow-up with Dr. Ellis. It felt like - sorry, you're not white, so you can see someone else. During my initial appointment, I was advised to consider the Clear and Brilliant or PicoWay laser treatment. I went ahead and tried to book this, knowing that the consultation fee that I already paid could be applied to the cost of the treatment. I called to schedule the Clear and Brilliant (they were booked out the next 4 months) and received an appointment confirmation through the patient portal which indicated a provider who I was not familiar with. It turns out this was the nurse who works with Dr. Ellis. I expressed reservations about a laser treatment with a nurse who I have never met, who is not even listed on their website under staff member, and who was initially touted by the front desk staff as having "many years of experience" which upon further clarification ended up being "maybe 2 years." I requested laser treatment by a dermatologist, after all, I thought that was the whole point for going to a dermatology clinic as opposed to any other medispa. Also, $650 for a single treatment is not a small amount of money. I was told that the dermatologists don't perform such a "basic" laser treatment and they didn't think it would matter anyway since it probably wouldn't do me much good (or harm). When I asked for the other laser treatment that had been recommended to me, PicoWay, I was told that it's no longer recommended. By the way, the PicoWay is performed by the dermatologists and the price I was quoted was actually cheaper for the PicoWay compared to the Clear and Brilliant. Apparently, Dr. Wall is able to do all of the laser treatments, but since I did not see her for my initial consultation, I could not request her to do my laser treatments unless I pay another $250 consultation fee for a "second opinion." Had I known that the dermatologist I would be seeing would not actually be the one doing the treatment, I probably wouldn't haven't booked the initial consultation with her or this clinic. This was not transparent at all during the booking process. When I mentioned this to the front desk staff, they basically said, too bad. In retrospect, I remember the process of getting an initial consultation was quite a hassle since they don't respond to your email/website request for an appointment and when you call, there's no information given except the date of the next available appointment with X, Y or Z person. I ended up canceling any treatments after this whole ordeal. I was surprised by the lack of transparency from the front desk staff, the breakdown of communication between the staff and clinicians which is then relayed as misinformation to patients, and the seeming unwillingness to follow-up with patient treatment plans or turfing patients to another provider. Overall, my first time seeing a dermatologist was quite disappointing, but now I know better. read more

Ive been coming here for the past few years and been seeing Dr. Ellis and I couldn't ask for a more caring, professional, and result driven doctor. Dr. Ellis: Dr. Ellis is very knowledgeable and can craft certain treatments around your preferences such as utilizing different cremes/washes/oral medications or lasers. As someone who does not like to use oral medicine, she offered topical treatments that yielded great results. Overall: A fantastic, friendly, and very clean location with lots of knowledgeable and professional staff that can help you with any of your skin needs. read more

I was first introduced to Dr. Ellis by my sister, who sent me the full prequel line. I then decided to have a cosmetic consultation with her a few months later. Dr. Ellis is so attentive, listens to what you want and gives great input. Her office is transparent about fees and what to expect from the appointment. 100/10. I like Dr. Ellis. She's super nice and doesn't try to push any procedures or products on me. I've only gone to see her for medical appointments, not for any type of skin rejuvenation or beautification procedures. She's easy to talk to and seems willing to talk through a patient's medical concerns. She seems to genuinely want to help those suffering with skin ailments and allergic reactions. So far I haven't had too much issue with getting an appointment within a reasonable timeframe, as other dermatologists in my area have a 1-2 month wait time. The office environment seems more geared towards cosmetic customers than standard patients with medical issues. There are a TON of medical assistants running around assisting patients and the doctors, and no less than three receptionist/billing people. It seems like a well oiled machine, but gives me the vibe that cosmetic procedures are their bread and butter. read more

4/23/21: Clarity Dr. Ellis did a full skin check. I wanted her to look at a consistent scaly dry skin patch on my nose. Dr. Ellis said that it was pre-cancer and I should have the area frozen off. This is NOT for beauty, this is so cancer does not spread. If this is not covered, I need to be told. Dr. Ellis saw a dark part on my back that looked irritated .(I call it a mole, although that is not the technical term) She said this looks suspicious, possible cancer, and I should have it checked. So she took this off to be checked. If this is not covered, I need to be told. In the past, I was told, to have my moles simply removed, I must pay for...and I have done this, and paid since I wanted them removed. I have also had suspicious moles removed and tested, and told this will be covered with my insurance. The communication with regards to the 2 procedures was not transparent. I have NEVER had to pay for preventative procedures checking for cancer. read more

I have seen Dr. Ellis twice now for acne, and I have really enjoyed both my experiences. I have been suffering from acne for a long time (5 years) and needed some advice on how to tackle an issue. Dr. Ellis has actually listened both times I've gone in and gave me helpful tips and offered to let me try a topical medication before actually ordering it to my pharmacy and costing me 70-80$ in copays, which was great. It was also a relief that she didn't push oral medications. Super knowledgeable and able to put medical jargon into terms for the average non-doctor, aka me, so that you understand what's going on w/ your skin. I also have to say that visiting Dr. Ellis was encouraging as far as my self-critical-ness goes. As someone who nitpicks problems with my skin, she was able to get me to a relax a little, and I actually left with a new mindset. Which is hard to do for me as an over-thinker. THAT right there is the best thing about Dr. Ellis to me. read more

Ohmygosh- I have been a number one fan of Dr. Potozkin and he went and hired Dr. Ellis. I selected her to freshen up my petite lips - she is a master ! Numbing cream worked wonders and 30 minutes later she worked her magic! Absolutely no pain or downtime - I love the soft refresh and will be returning to her often !! This was my first visit to a dermatologist ever, and I was honestly a little nervous. (I played tennis in high school and don't remember ever putting on sunscreen) Dr. Ellis was kind, informative and helpful. You could tell she knew what she was talking about and made thing easy for me to understand. The office was great too, taking a lot of extra precautions because of Covid and everyone was so friendly. I know a lot of people go here for cosmetic side, but I went for a medical visit and it was great. Would highly recommend Dr. Ellis and this office. read more

I was content being a person with no discernible mouth (lip filler seemed like it wouldn't be subtle) until I met Dr. Ellis and saw her work. A few colleagues went to her for lip filler and I was really impressed. No one looked overdone (popular, but not my thing) or even done at all actually. I am serious when I say this woman is a perfectionist with an eye for detail, great bedside manner and a gentle touch. I had one visit with her where she explained she would add a very small amount of lip filler after which I would come back a few weeks later for a reassessment and potentially add more. More was added at the second visit and I'm a total convert! Dr. Ellis has another happy patient. Highly recommend! read more

Sometimes being a patient in a larger operation can be a horrible experience being rushed in and out, but not at Potozkin MD. You will feel like a part of the family.
