After many trips to Peru, I'm glad to see a vacant K-Mart get filled with Harbor Freight, Dunham's Sports, and this Salvation Army! Unlike most Salvation Army shops, this isn't your typical grocery store that was left to rot for 10 years complete with a leaky roof and poor heat and no A/C and THEN became Salvation Army. This shop is clean, well organized (all clothes are separated by gender, size, color, and style), clothing is priced with skew tags (no staple holes in items!!!!), has fitting rooms, and bathrooms (but you have to get the cashier to unlock the door for you...no biggie!). Book prices are decent and I found a couple nice items here. I'll come back!! :) read more

Way over priced for donated items!! The smell, well it smells like donated items. I asked the manager for some sort of discount for the milk glass vases ! Which has been sitting there for awhile. Salvation Army Thrift Store - Thrift Stores Near Me - Peru, Illinois

NOTE: I am guessing at the exact address, as I cannot find this location anywhere I've searched. However, it was right next to the Dollar Tree, so I used the same address. This store must be so new, it's not yet listed on the yahoo directory nor the 'Army's website. Anyway, this store was very clean -that is why I suspected it was recently constructed. They had some nice stuff here and there, but I felt it was more of "casual basics" assortment. I guess I'm so spoiled with all the awesome thrift stores in Chicago and all the truly great "high fashion" finds I encounter every weekend. This one was kinda "meh" and a little boring if you are a truly fashionable resale-ista. However, if you are looking for something basic and casual to hang out in the summer, or go camping/hiking through Starved Rock -or just forgot something on your trip and need a extra coat or sweater -this is your place! I can imagine this is a blessing for parents, because they had a bunch of cute basic stuff and it's so cheap -a family could totally do a fun shopping spree on the cheap. Low prices and a large selection, while most items are not high end it still provides A nice alternative to discount department stores

Used to love going here for the colored tag deal on Friday and sat. Untill they starting hiding items when 6:00 rolls around. The deal states anything with the color of week becomes $1 but at 5:30 you can see workers going around the store with carts taking all the color off the shelves. I feel like why have the sale if you don't actually want to get rid of things at the end of the week. read more

My boyfriend and I were in Peru and popping into various stores. We went into the store and everything seemed fine. My boyfriend picked up a simple wall hanging but there was no price to be found on the item. I am not sure if it fell off or what. But when we took the item to the register the cashier, Cami, told us that since there was no price on the item they would not sell it to us. She said they had a lot of issues with people going through and removing price tags from items to get them cheaper. We said we understood and we asked if there was a manager who could price it so we could purchase it. She said no the lady who prices things is not here. She will be back Monday. She had a lot of attitude and was very unhelpful in general. So my boyfriend went back into the store after working third shift Sunday night to speak with the woman name Christina who is the Assistant manager. When he spoke to her he explained that I drove an hour and a half to visit him and he really wanted to purchase the wall hanger for me since we are a newer couple and it was a nice gesture. She simply told him that since it was corporate policy they had to send the item back through processing in order for it to be put back on the shelf for sale. He requested to leave his name and number with her in hopes that when it was through processing he could then purchase the item. But she refused saying they would not hold the item for him despite all the crap that we put up with so far. I will NEVER shop at this store again and I suggest no one else should either as you most likely will not be able to purchase something as there seemed to be a lot of items without tags or with tags that were not very well secured. Bigotry and discrimination at its finest. My fiance (to whom is a male) and I walked into this store, which we have patronized on multiple occasions. In fromt of us, was another couple. The couple was a male and female and was enjoying an expensive Starbucks coffee fresh from the steamer. We ALSO had coffee. Before following the couple inside, we stood outside conversating a bit and enjoying the considerably warm winter day. The clerk inside witnessed us hugging in front of the store. When we followed the male and female group into the store (all of us with coffee) the lady beind the counter demanded that my fiance and I leave our expensive coffees in the car (she completley disregarded the "straight" couple and THEIR coffee.) My fiance and I felt very targeted and uncomfortable , so he suggested that we take our buisness elsewhere. After be had said that she raised her voice and said ""okay then, bye!"" The same lady, had also once denied me the discount i have always recieved for being an emergency response worker. My fiance and I will now only patronize the businesses and thrift stores in the area that do not pratice bigotry, and encourage acts of discrimination and hatred like this store has. After all, this is the 21st century, and even those who love the same gender are entitled to humane respect and standard dignity like everyone else.
