I haven't used any other services from Woodgreen besides their free Walk-In Counselling Service…read more This service is provided every Tuesday and Wednesday for anyone to access. I have only used this service three times but over the span of a year and a half. I go in when I really need someone to talk to and who can provide the support I need. I don't go to regular therapy so this service is incredibly helpful when I feel overwhelmed and talking to friends is not enough. The first time I went, the therapist I was with was nice, but was not who I was looking for. I tried one session with a therapist outside of Woodgreen but it did not work out. I tried Woodgreen again for the second time and had Jacqueline, who is amazing. She listens to what you have to say and not only provides support but feedback as well. I asked her again for my third session and was thrilled the clinic was able to set me up with her again. I intend to go back to her whenever I feel that life is getting too much for me and I need professional help.

Sistering is an outreach agency in Toronto that helps women in the community who are homeless,…read moremarginalized or living in poverty. They provide a safe, comfortable environment for women to get a meal, support, counselling and services that help them overcome poverty. I walk past Sistering almost everyday but never noticed it or understood what it was until someone told me. I'm happy that there is something like this in my community that focuses specifically on women, who are more likely to be effected by poverty as their wages are lower than men's and they usually have dependents to support. They are also more likely to be victims of violence. For these reasons I have stopped giving away households items and good clothing to Value Village and Goodwill, and instead give them to Sistering. I recently donated three old winter coats that were still in great condition but I had not worn in a long time for superficial reasons. If you have anything laying around the house that you don't ever use, even pillows, blankets and other household items that are still in good, hygienic condition, you can donate all these items(make sure they are clean/washed first) to Sistering and know they end up directly in the hands of people who need them. I still support thrift store charities by shopping there but this way I know my donations of household items go towards helping those who actually live in my community.

Sistering is one of a few places I can name in the city catering to marginalized, homeless women…read more They accept donations of used clean clothing, canned food, menstrual hygiene products, unopened unexpired condoms, hot/cold weather supplies and unopened travel-sized toiletries.

After giving my info I wanted to know why they were charging me because I had found them through the government site for getting your taxes done for free depending on your income. I have gotten my taxes done for free the past two years from two other companies listed on the site so I asked why I was being charged if the site mentioned the no charge. A woman attending the virtual meeting who I could not see on camera said she couldn't take my belly aching. I was like "Belly aching????" Did she say belly aching? Well, the guy conducting the meeting quickly said this is ended and hung up. No apologies. They didn't answer when I called back nor replied to my text request for a copy of the video of the meeting and the names of everyone at the meeting so I can file a complaint. So I will definitely not recommend a place that is supposed to help women but doesn't even sympathize nor empathize with one. Even if they have to charge me, say so and professionally decline doing business with me if I can't afford their price. No need to be rude. I was not rude.
