Today, my husband and I had an appointment for a salt cave session. I have been to four salt caves (all in the western suburbs of Chicago) prior to this one, and Salt Tree Yoga's salt cave is by far the best of the bunch!
For starters, the place is stunningly beautiful. The decor has touches inspired by nature and trees and the roots of the "salt tree" from their logo. In every direction you look, you will notice that there is so much attention to detail!
If you never have been to a salt cave, I can walk you through it! -
You start by removing your shoes and grabbing some clean white socks from a basket near the front door. Next, you can stow away your valuables in one of the many lockers - you keep the key with you until you are finished. Then, you will enter through a magnificent arched doorway into the salt cave. Inside, there is tons of pink Himalayan sea salt on the floor (it provides a touch of foot reflexology as you walk to your chair) and also some larger rocks of Himalayan salt as decoration. Inside, grab your choice of any available Zero Gravity chair and a fluffy blanket. Once the session starts, there is no talking. There is relaxing, tranquil music and dim lighting so you have the perfect setup for deep relaxation, meditation, or even a quick nap. There is also additional salt that comes in the salt cave in the air from a salt generator. It is a perfect little 45-minute escape from reality!
If you do not live particularly close, come out to the Ottawa area and make a day of it! My suggestion - start your day with a salt cave session. Drink plenty of water afterwards. Grab a quick, healthy lunch. Then go for a one to two hour-long hike at Starved Rock State Park. Perfecto! read more
