It seems like the two names, Oakbrook Terrace and Heritage Park, are used interchangeably. Nonetheless, this was a random discovery when I was browsing Google Maps for playgrounds to check out and it is a definite keeper! The park is quietly tucked within a neighborhood. So far we have visited twice in the morning and there were very little people to share the space with. Although I would like the social factor and enjoy the bustle with running and laughing children, but the quietness is particularly beneficial to my firstborn's short attention span. It allows her to stay focused on her tennis lessons with her daddy. The tennis courts are well maintained and within walking distance of the playground. It is easy for us to toggle between the two. The playground appears to be recently renovated. There is a small section for toddlers and larger section for older kids. The space is well divided so the younger children can stay in their area without feeling intimidated. The flooring for both sections is a mix with some parts having wood chips and others having rubber. The rubbery ground is a uphill and down slope climb and it was a great way for my girls to run up and down to expense their endless energy. Otherwise, there is also the typical playground equipment such as slides, climbing ropes, ladders and spirals, and monkey bars. Side note - This playground is incredibly close to Frankie's Deli which is a favorite of ours!

The Hub at Baron Park reeled me in with a Groupon deal and I'm totally sunk for them now. My Groupon deal was $14 for all of that for two people - 12 batting cage tokens (12 pitches with each token) which is normally $1 per token or $5 for 6 tokens. 2 hot dog combos with chips and drinks normally $4 each, and two rounds of mini golf which is a $10 value. My friend and I went on Tuesday when it was 100 degrees out so we were really feeling the heat but I had so much fun! It was fantastic to have it all right there in one place plus their concession stand had a decent variety of drink choices and a few flavors of Dippin Dots. When we were ready for our hot dogs, we sat in a nice shaded picnic table area. All the young guys & girls working at the Hub were helpful & friendly and didn't have the lackadaisical attitude sometimes displayed by teens in their summer jobs. The Hub has a spray pool but we didn't go in there - it was filled with kids & their weekday babysitters. The batting cages were great - 4 cages with different speeds of softball & baseball pitches. Please note, I own at softball. :) The mini golf was a fun time but not the fanciest mini golf I've ever been to, pretty plain. I think they could amp it up just a tad to make for a bit more fun! All in all, I had a great time at The Hub and wouldn't hesitate to go back!

You could spend an entire day here! The family went on a Sunday to use our Groupon. We did the mini-golf which was just fine. The course doesn't really have a theme but there are lots of butterfly plants and lots of butterflies. We also visited the batting cages. My five year old had a blast. It seems you can also rent out the space for a picnic. There was a large church congregation having a picnic that day. They also have sports fields for football and whatnot.

When I've walked along the paths, I've seen people fishing in the pond during the warmer months. The playground looks like a nice one. They have a basketball court next to it. I've heard there are tennis courts, but I think they must be on the East side of the park. I'll need to explore that side a bit more. There's a cute little bridge that allows you to easily cross over Salt Creek. I didn't see any photos of the canoe launch, so I'll share a couple here. Unfortunately, we had a lot of rain the day before, so the ramp to the boat launch was pretty flooded. There are also doggy bag stations on the path near the parking lot.

Parking was a little challenging during my late April visit with all the beautiful flowers in bloom, but it was well worth parking a few blocks away and walking over for the experience. Scattered throughout the park are plenty of benches, a scenic lookout area, iron deer statue, and more. A stroll around the park is super relaxing here since you're surrounded by plenty of colors and pleasant aromas. Definitely a must visit for any tulip or lilac lover. Worth a special trip due to the quality of the park and the beautiful views.

Once…read morein April for the tulips and daffodils, then in April/May once or twice for the lilacs, and finally in December for the lights. There are so many lilacs here, and the park just keeps going. You can smell them from across the street, and wandering the park when they're in bloom makes me unreasonably happy. So I check the Bloom-O-Meter on the park's website / social media and you should too. The wide variety of lilacs means they all start blooming at different times, so the joy lasts for weeks. There are also huge plantings of multiple varieties of tulips and daffodils - they're pretty sad by the time the lilacs really get going, but earlier they're beautiful too. During the official weekend of "Lilac Time" the local garden club will sell you your very own lilac, and possibly some other plants, too (convenient parking in the spots by the Metra if you're hauling plants). The Historical Society across the street stocks extra lilac stuff (postcards, shirts, keychains, etc.) when the lilacs are blooming, so hit them up too. The winter holiday lights are also magical and they keep them up a fairly long time (into January) - so if you didn't get around to seeing a light display, they got you. I don't recommend coming the night they turn them on as it's a mad crush, but there's a wide variety of different kinds of lights and it's well worth a trip when it's less crowded. Lights are on until 10pm - most of the little kids are gone by 7pm or so. Street parking usually available, or the lot at the Historical Society is free after 11am.

The ramps are double wide so there is plenty of space for children of all ages to share the play space. However, there are separate sections for younger and older children so the young children won't have to feel intimidated. 2) The whole playground has a rubbery ground so it is very comfortable and safe. 3) There are slides of various sizes, rock climbing walls, flying saucer swing, zip line, assorted climbing structures such as panels and ladders, and swing sets. 4) The tennis courts are just around the corner so this is definitely a keeper because our 4-year old has begun taking tennis lessons from her daddy.

The only things that keeps it from five stars are that there are not enough trash receptacles and I spotted some litter here and there. On a side note, in my opinion, people that litter should be beaten with a large stick! However, overall this is just a beautiful, peaceful spot. I bike through here almost everyday and always enjoy it. If you are in the area it is worth checking out.

I had been to the Aquatics Center for a seminar in one of their meeting rooms, but never the pool…read moreitself. Recently my cousins rented the whole place out for a birthday party. I was impressed. We had the entire pool room to ourselves, with two giant pools, one shallow for the kids with a slide, and the other with lanes for more serious lap swimming. They also have a large hot tub which I enjoyed immensely. There was room for our food, gifts and seating all in view of the pools, and their locker rooms, showers and restrooms were well maintained. The doors lead out to a nice patio area in the back, where there are outdoor pools and beautiful scenery. I'm sure we were inside because it had rained that day. I don't know what my cousins paid for this private event on a weekend, but it was worth it. Fun was had by all.

According to staff reports and community awareness, these concerns have been raised more than once and are not new. What's deeply troubling is the pattern of response. Instead of a permanent resolution, the approach has reportedly been temporary suspensions followed by reinstatement--after which similar concerns continue to surface. If accurate, that is not a meaningful safeguard but rather a cycle. When an organization is aware of repeated allegations involving minors and continues to allow the same individual back into that environment, it raises serious questions about judgment, oversight, and priorities. At a minimum, it suggests a failure to put adequate protections in place for staff. This is not about one incident--it is now a repeated pattern with clear evidence that the executive director and board do not care about the safety of the young women they employ. Anyone considering employment here, or parents with kids working here, should be asking very direct questions about how harassment is addressed and what protections actually exist in practice. The parl district's mandated sexual harassment training for their staff while doing nothing to protect them from harassment from their precious paying members. Until there is clear accountability and transparency, this is a concern the community should take seriously.

The 88-acre Redmond Recreational Complex offers something for the entire family…read more Our girls mostly utilized the space-pod themed Redmond Playground on a Sunday morning. There were only three other kids playing so we nearly had the whole playground to ourselves. The girls enjoyed climbing up the ropes, coming down the slides, and running around the playground on the rubbery ground. There was an ongoing basement game that my husband stood and watched for about 15 minutes until his girls summoned him to push them on the swings. There are picnic tables, basketballs courts, and volleyball courts as well.
