Salt Creek Falls is Oregon's 2nd tallest waterfall, a 286 foot plunge from top to bottom. Visiting here is easy. It's located right off Highway 58 and 65 miles southeast of Eugene, OR. It's a $5 day use fee. I visited on Labor Day Monday and it wasn't so busy. Once you park, Salt Creek Falls is off to the right hand side but...Diamond Creek Falls (another very worthwhile waterfall to visit) is located towards the left hand side. So...I'd suggest visiting both. You get rewarded with 2 waterfalls for the price of 1 admission. The pathway to Salt Creek Falls Viewpoint is half a mile at most, but along the way there'll be a quick preview of the falls beside the staircase leading towards the trailhead. You can't miss it and you'll hear the falls loudly crashing down below. The hike to the viewing deck is casual. You walk through the forest. It's pretty quiet. Once you arrive at the lookout viewpoint, Salt Creek Falls is impressive. You get undisturbed looks at the waterfall. If your curiosity interests you, you can walk around past the platform for closer glances. I did venture out a little just to avoid the guardrail being in my pictures. But I would say...it's a very steep decline and footing wasn't so secure. Be cautious with your steps. You'll understand this while there. Btw...there were no signs indicating you couldn't venture past the viewing deck. It's up to you to decide how much further you'd like to explore. I noticed some people joined me on the cliffside, while others stayed on the viewing deck. In all, it doesn't take long to see Salt Creek Falls. It's definitely a refreshing breathe of air to be at another marvelous Oregon waterfall, and that's where making the next part of your visit better when you return back to the parking lot and continue onto the 3 mile roundtrip trail to Diamond Creek Falls. I won't say too much about Diamond Creek Falls. I can save it for another review, but I will say it's a complete 180 degree different type of waterfall and setting. You get more into the heart of nature. And you can stand at the base of Diamond Creek Falls looking right up at it cascading in front of your eyes in comparison to witnessing Salt Creek Falls from a vista point platform. They're both unique natural wonders in their own ways. If you're in the central part of Oregon, I'd make plans to come to Salt Creek Falls. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by two magical looking waterfalls that barely get recognition. I didn't know they existed prior to 2024, and I thought I had been to them all, lol. Goes to show...there always more to see, always more to discover. Getting out among the great outdoors is a beautiful thing. read more

Great waterfall viewing here. It's not too far from the parking lot down to the viewing areas. There are different viewing areas to go to and get different vantage points. What I liked about this is that they do have accessible viewing areas. Definitely worth going to and having a picnic, hike or both. read more

It was a tad hard to take in the full spectacle of Oregon's 2nd tallest single drop falls last week. At that time even the flatter section of the viewing area had verrrry slippery ice and snow. Getting to the section up the stairs that it seemed would provide the most complete view defied my non-ice cleated shoes, as well as my desire to not break my neck. So we opted to just see what we could and sent the drone up to get a more direct shot. Currently you have to park at the nearby Salt Creek snopark and hike to the turn-off to the falls and on to the viewing area and trailhead. If you stay on the snowpack you can make it there pretty easily without cleats, it's the area off the road and around the falls that's extra slick. I'm sure that'll all be helped by another coating of fresh snow. The falls are lovely, as is the surrounding area. We trekked up the trail towards Too Much Bear Lake a bit, but again, it was just too icy when we were there to do without snowshoes or cleats. If you're coming on the weekend just be prepared, the snopark parking lot isn't massive and was overflowing with people when we were there...and remember those snowshoes! read more

Just off the highway and for those that do not want to hike you can view it from above. But to those that are willing to hike just a bit you can go to the base of the falls and OH MY - it is a stunner. So big you can't get it in the camera from that angle - your memories will have to do. Surrounded by lush green folliage and water just pounding down, a wonderful show by mother nature! Plenty of parking at the top and a bathroom there as well. Worth the trip! read more

What a spectacular sight! Salt Creek Falls is located west of Williamette Pass, just off Highway 58. The Salt Creek Falls day use area is located 21 miles east of Oakridge, or 5 miles west of the Williamette Pass. The Falls hurtles 286 feet into a gaping canyon near Williamette Pass. It's amazing to think that during the last Ice Age, glaciers scoured the valley out. Then following their retreat lava flows filled a portion of the valley creating the narrow canyon walls composed of columnar basalt, that are now seen at the Falls. It was an easy paved walk to the first viewing area with handicap accessibility. Then the trail that leads further down is dirt with some rocks. It's not a difficult walk by any stretch. We walked to the end of the path for a beautiful view, great photo ops, too. We felt the spray from the powerful falls on our faces! It's chilly this time of year, so bring a light jacket. Parking is available with handicap accessible spots and an easy trail that leads to the viewing area. Unless you have a park Pass, parking is 5.00. Bathroom building is available in the parking area. read more

This is a magnificent waterfall & one that should be viewed from the base as well as the top. There is a well maintained trail that leads down to the bottom. It gets a little steep toward the bottom so I wouldn't recommend for anyone with health issues. Be prepared to spend some time here and bring water shoes when you go the base so that you can wander around and take in all the beauty. There are several great trails to Diamond Creek Falls (trailhead is in the south side of parking lot) that is easy for kids & adults. read more

This place was beautiful. $5 parking fee, but worth it's the lower trail to the falls was closed so we looked at the waterfall from the upper platform. Stunning. Then we checked out the other trails and ended up going to Vivian Lake. I think this turned out to be a nearly 10 mile hike. It was fantastic. The scenery was unreal, and the first half of the hike was a nice challenge. A good amount of uphill. Be sure to look out for trail indicators as we got side tracked (lost) on the forestry road for a bit before we found the trail again. read more

I went up to Salt Creek Falls right after it had snowed. The snow was so fluffy and light it was great for sledding! We went down to a trail towards the falls to find a spot for some pictures! This is truly a massively powerful and breathtaking fall. I arrived here specifically to photograph this fall with my dog. It was a ways out for me, but very much worth it! This fall is out there away from any towns, so be careful when hiking around here. Luckily the fall is right off of the highway and the hiking is quite minimal. The parking seemed to be large enough and there were bathrooms. So if you are driving through you might has well take a bathroom break at this awesome rest stop! The trail travels along the creek and takes you to a platform. It is said to be Oregon second tallest waterfall next to Multnomah Falls of course. The fall is about 286 feet tall and produce an enormousness amount of mist. I remember taking photos from about 50 yards away and not getting any good shots from my lens getting fogged up. There is a little trail down to the bottom that is definitely worth hiking down to. The valley that this fall flows into is lush and green in the spring time and filled with clovers and flowers. The area is well marked with plenty of interpretative signs to inform you of what to expect. If you have a bucket list of Oregon waterfalls, this fall must be at the top of your list!
