Great teacher! Highly recommended. I had a lot of fun learning salsa. Not stressful at all. Thanks

San Tropez is a very nice dance school with a number of wide open, well lit, professional studios…read more The school offers a great variety of classes in different styles and levels. The instructors are all friendly, the staff is helpful, and it's a lot of fun! Definitely recommend stopping by if you have interest. I came with my girlfriend for a beginner salsa night and we felt at home despite being outsiders to the crowd that takes the on going course. Drop ins are welcome -- it's a little pricey, $20 per person. Nonetheless, we had a good time and were so inspired that we left class and went straight to a salsa club to try out our moves.

I went to the West Island branch of this school by myself and was really disappointed. I believe her name was Laura for anyone wishing to seek or avoid her. This was not my first latin dance class and never have I felt so uncomfortable and disrespected as I did in that particular class. The teacher wanted to maake sure that she got through her planned class without helping the others with little problems they may have adopted. I hope others have better experiences but would recommend avoiding this school and that particular teacher like the plague.

I was fortunate enough to be staying a few blocks away and already had a membership from my local Y…read more(GTA). They honour it here with very little process involved to get in. An extra bonus that they have a "plus" change-room and I had access to that as well since that was part of my membership which they also honoured. There's certainly bigger Y's than this one - including the one in my suburban community. But bearing in mind that they're in the heart of downtown Montreal, it's still a pretty good size with a bunch of amenities. The gym area is on the top (3rd or 4th) floor, so I caught the pool, a couple studios, gymnasium and others on the way up. The gym was fairly well supplied and should have most of what you're looking for. I mostly just use free weights and a running track anyway which they had available. The plus change-room was really nice! Funny enough it was quite a bit bigger than my local one, though the rest of the facility is smaller. The provide towel service, carpeted areas by the lockers, a large and well-functioning steam room and a large whirlpool. Just note that you'll need to have your own lock. My Y has a system where you can leave your card in the locker in order to bring a key with you, but this one you need your own lock. I'm not sure how it works for the other change-room. Glad I made my visit here to get energized and make a small dent in burning the excessive calories I took in on my trip to Montreal. Staff were really nice and helpful too.

I love the Y. This Y in particular is in a perfect location if you work downtown. They have…read morediscounts to give to you if you work for certain places, which is great. Recently they changed their pay structure to be biweekly. If you're regular price individual, it comes out to a little over $30 for two weeks, around $60 a month. The facilities are decently taken care of. Nothing is too messy and they frequently have cleaners going in and out of the change rooms. The studios are pretty clean and spacious (though some classes are PACKED, even if it's inside the gym.) the change rooms are okay, I've never had issues getting a locker before. There are a variety of classes you can take and all of them are fun! I've tried quite a few of them and I don't remember any being bad at all. The teachers are great and are bilingual. Because classes are often busy, they can't really focus too much attention to you during classes. However, they are always open to speaking with you after classes. With the Y membership, you also get 10 friend passes to use and 2 fitness instructor training sessions. You have to renew your membership yearly (no, it doesn't just roll over). Staff are extremely kind and helpful in the front desk as well.

This winter I decided I want to do some sort of intense physical activity, and I settled on zumba…read more It seemed fun, so I tried a free class and now I'm hooked! I settled on Bamboofit because of location and fee structure. Bamboofit works on a card system: you buy a certain number of classes and they are loaded into an account. You are given a key fob with bar code and you scan it whenever you go to a class. The cost is very reasonable when you buy a bunch of classes and you have a year to use them. Perfect for someone who travels often and/ or has a highly variable schedule. The studio is large and bright. A word of caution however: there is no locker room. There's a curtained changing area and bathrooms, but no lockers or showers. You arrive, take off your boots and coat, and then bring your valuables to class with you. It works fine, but is good to know ahead of time. Between the energetic instructors and upbeat music, I never fail to leave the class smiling. Zumba is a little different from traditional aerobic classes as the focus is less on getting the moves right and more on moving and having a good time. At my first class I was a bit confused and missed the frantic calling of moves I was used to. Now that I'm used to it I love it. I focus less on doing exactly what the teacher is doing and more on the movements themselves. I'm not the most coordinated person, so sometimes I just focus on moving in the same direction and not crashing into anyone. But I have a good time doing it! The clientele, while varied, is primarily young and fit. I am by no means a small person (short yes, small no), nor a particularly coordinated one and I have always felt welcome and comfortable. If you're thinking about trying it out, DO IT!
