I came here for the first time for the comedy fest in Montreal and I loved this theater! Extremely spacious, there's helpful + friendly staff at every corner and staircase, and comfy seats. We were a group of 26 (you heard me) and we had no troubles finding our seat or grabbing something in the lobby bar before the show. It was so cool to be sitting watching rising stars doing their thing! Not to mention knowing all the iconic comedians who have been part of this very comedy fest in the past. Also it was nice to be sitting inside since some of the comedy shows were on the main stage outdoors. read more

The Place des Arts is an entire complex dedicated to visual and performing arts. Three great cultural organizations make their home here. Place-des-Arts is a beautiful art venue nested in the middle of Montreal and a great spot to hang out as there is always something to see, do, or hear in there. It is the largest cultural and artistic complex in Canada. Place-des-Arts is Montreal's central entertainment complex. This fun entertainment area hosts many concerts, plays, festivals, parties, and many other events (Opera, theatre, or Broadway musicals). read more

Went to the opera here and was impress with the facility and the size of the entire property. Many theaters and a restaurant or two from what I could see. We ate at one and it was delicious. It was just inside at the lower level right off the street. Another example of fine Montreal culture! read more

I have attended countless shows in Salle Wilfred-Pelletier! From Jazz to comedy shows to ballet to broadway musical. My latest venture was one of my all time literature, Victor Hugo's Les Miserables! From settings to the performances was the best ever! I actually believe it was the best musical I have seen since I was welled up with major thick tears. Bravo to the whole crew of Les Miserables! Thank you to place des Arts for bringing the show to us! I always enjoy the venue. I sat everywhere, balconies, floors... it got good leg space. Seats are comfortable and the hall is beautifully decorated. read more

Place des arts is Montreal's center of attention when it comes to live performances or show business events. The interior aesthetics change often and the whole thing is really creative! It's connected to the metro station & complexe Desjardins, so you don't even need to go outside to circulate in between these 3 buildings... (Complexe Desjardins is also connected to complexes Guy Favreau) read more

I recently saw the Carole King musical "Beautiful" here at Salle Wilfred-Pelletier and I was reminded of how integral this venue is for theater in Montreal. I've been seeing shows here since I can remember (I was born in Montreal in the early 60's, so that tells you how many countless times I've been here. Heck, even my McGill graduation ceremony was held in this auditorium!). It is a wonderful site that still holds up. The acoustics were great and, despite our seats being toward the back of the room on the floor, we still had a great view of the stage. I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. I was reminded how great it was to have the Plâce des Arts Metro station right there so, on crappy weather days and nights, one needn't venture outside. (LOVE the underground connections in the city - especially in the winter). I also appreciate how the underground "lobby" connects to the Montreal Contemporary Art Museum (one of my favorite museums!) and to Plâce Desjardins (located right across St. Catherine St. from Plâce des Arts). Here one can have dinner and/or drinks at any one of a number of restaurants or lounges and shop a bit. The staff here were/are super helpful and friendly. The only reason I'm deducting a star is because it would be great if this theater had monitors inside to check patrons' unruly behavior (this rarely occurs but, unfortunately, it happened when my mom and I attended this musical recently. Two women behind us were hootin' and hollerin' from the get-go. Very boisterous. And one even removed her shoes and put her feet up on the top of the seat in front of her when the patron who sat there temporarily vacated it during intermission! My mom and I were flabbergasted. Very uncouth). It would have been great for a monitor to remind these ladies to act appropriately in the theater. Oh well. read more

I have been attending events at Place des Arts from a very young so it is a very dear place to my heart. They hold a variety of shows and some of the events I have attended were: ballet shows from Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, concerts, comedy shows from Just for Laughs, musicals, fundraisers, graduations, etc. I have also had the chance to attend events in smaller halls as well as bigger halls. Overall, they are all pretty good acoustic wise. If you live here and haven't been, I would recommend at least going once. read more

They have some good shows going on. The place is sophisticated and it does a good job of connection to the metro without making it look weird. I especially like the book store near by, it's always fun to browse on my way to school or home. read more

So modern and beautiful! Walking inside through the dim corridor with little lights shining from the floor is so awesome. It's a great classy venue for the best acts and shows in Montreal. I've seen a couple broadway type musicals and dance shows here, just love the room and seating area. The ticket office also has great service, I like how can you buy your tickets online and come pick them up free of charge. Last December, I bought tickets online to see Yen Shun performing arts show and unknowingly, a few days later received a gift certificate that could have been used for those tickets. When I went to the ticket office, they actually adjusted the price, refunded what I had paid and let me use the gift certificate. I was extremely pleased, I'm not sure other businesses would have made a price adjustment after the fact. read more

Fantastic and intriguing place to see! Architecturally unique and modern. A nice place to hang out. Only complaint is that I see a lot of bums here... Other than that, awesome! read more

I appreciate the Place Des Arts. When I used to work in the area, I was consistently surprised by how innovated they were with their decor design and the cultural variety. This place is truly the mecca of art & culture in Montreal. If you're a fan of that, this is the place to be with troves of shows & stages to appeal to practically every taste. Location is easy to reach with a Metro right under it as well as its location being smack in the heart of Montreal. The area used to be more ghetto a few decades ago but that's long gone and it's very nicely presented and preserved. It gets pretty busy, especially during rush hour or lunch with people coming in and out in practically every orifice of the building. That can make it confusing for some. read more

The Place des Arts in Montreal is quite impressive from the outside in the evening. I imagine that it must be even more impressive inside as well. Yeah, we did not go inside the place to watch any concert or show. We were just taking a leisurely walk one cool evening when we came across this beautiful venue. Will have to watch something here during our next trip to Montreal. read more

Place des Arts is chic and with great sound and sight lines. Sometimes it feels a little nineties cheesy in the lighting design, but there are beautiful touches in the decor - I love the walkway in from St Catherine's with the slight incline and beautiful sculpted ceiling shapes, and the lounge bar that, as my charming companions pointed out, feels like a sexy cave. Who doesn't like a sexy cave? read more

The location is well organized, and several events are happening at the same time. The staff there are helpful and welcoming. The food and bars are not great but at a reasonable level. It is difficult to find parking in busy evenings and getting into the parking requires patience and you must come at least an hour earlier than the start of your event. read more

Place des Arts is the centre of the Montreal cultural universe. All the resident professional performance companies use its stages: the symphony orchestra, the ballet, the opera, theatre, as well as visiting artists. If you have just moved in Montreal and in need for high quality cultural experience this is the place to check first. I have seen so many amazing shows and renowned world artist in the halls of Place des Arts. Talking about the halls, there are six of them, built during different periods of time and subsequently bringing different experience during the shows. My preferences are with the Symphony House for its acoustics and Theatre Maisonneuve as the best space for ballet performances. The space inside and around Place des Arts was redesigned few years ago. The exterior now looks so modern and attractive that I would bring visitors just to check the ever changing digital art wall. This is also the place to go if you are in town during the famous international jazz fest, all the shows and street performances happen around, or when the festivals are over, just come to enjoy the jumping jet fountains in a hot summer night. Love it! read more

The Place des Arts is one of my favorite place in Montreal. I usually go there for many reasons but that evening I went to see a musical at the Wilfried Pelletier theater. Of course, this place is very well maintained, the architecture of the room is very thought out and the seats were also very comfortable. However, I'm not sure that this place was suited for a show of that kind: I wasn't a fan of the acoustic, it was not good at all. Wilfried Pelletier is probably very good for plays but not for musicals. The actors did a wonderful job but the room did not do them justice. I'll probably have to see another show in that particular room, just to compare. (3.5) read more

Very nice facility. Elegant, clean and classy. I saw a show at the Salle Wilfrid Pelletier theatre and it was awesome. The sound was fantastic. The theatre seemed intimate even though it seats around 3000 people. There are enough bars around that during an intermission you can actually get a drink and not have to guzzle it down before the show starts again! read more

The Place des Arts is a beautiful building on the outside, but combined with the surrounding area is an awesome place to relax. On the outside premises and across the street there is some street art architecture with multiple triangle shaped beams which light up at night. Once inside, there is art wherever you walk, which mostly comprises of the actual building itself. Below the Places Des is a Metro entrance and across the street is the Complexe Desjardins so it's a very convenient location to hang out, take photos or just relax. read more

Although PDA is is a wonderful music and culture venue, I'm not sure when the last time the halls (or the washrooms) where renovated, or in the case of the washrooms, given a quick lick of paint. That being said, out-dated decor and chipped paint don't detract from the wonderful shows Place Des Arts bring to Montreal year after year! read more

I think previous reviews, pretty much say it all, but I'll reiterate what a great space this is. It may not be the most modern or vibrant, but it's a part of our city now, last a landmark in itself. A recent visit reminded me that it's really a convenient venue (with underground parking if you need) which is connected to the metro system. With productions for young and old, there's something for everyone. I saw "The Book of Mormon" a week or so ago and loved it so much, but part of it was also the fact that everyone seemed to be in a great mood, probably because of afternoon drinking. I feel like I can really man up all over myself after a strong afternoon drink... read more

I go to Place des Arts a few times a year for musicals, comedy, opera, and concerts. This past Tuesday I had tickets to a circus-style (theatre for young audiences) show and took my six-year-old. In my opinion, the show was not properly publicized to Montreal's English community, but anyway... My daughter was not feeling well and threw up in Cinquième Salle right before curtain time. I was horrified, but the ushers, maintenance, and security staff were quick to act and help out! They helped us to the bathroom and gave my daughter an ice pack and barf bag and reassured us that these things happen. Under the circumstances, the box office changed our tickets for another showtime later in the week without hesitation. I was truly astounded by the sensitive and effective customer service. Bravo! read more

Attended a few concerts here over the years during the Montreal jazz festival. It's a staple for the paid special feature concerts during the festival. Beautiful decor for taking photos. The basement is the metro and also accesses a food court, and there are a few fancier dining options inside. The bar during concerts is too packed, for example there was a long line and one bartender during one concert. Sit upstairs on the balcony front row if you like a great view of the stage. read more

Went to see the Howie Mendel gala. It was a little confusing as to how to get into the place. We got different instructions from different security people. Anyway, great venue. The theater maisonneuve is my favorite one at the place des arts. Really slick lobby with the acrylic curtain

"Place des Arts" is in fact a group of six concert halls ranging from "Wilfrid Pelletier" the largest with over 3000 seats to the "Studio Théatre" that sits maybe 60. I went recently to a small show in the "Studio Théatre" (my first time there) and it does it job. All halls are very professionally run but I always have the feeling that the halls here don't have as much warmth as other venue in town. read more
