San Tropez is a very nice dance school with a number of wide open, well lit, professional studios…read more The school offers a great variety of classes in different styles and levels. The instructors are all friendly, the staff is helpful, and it's a lot of fun! Definitely recommend stopping by if you have interest. I came with my girlfriend for a beginner salsa night and we felt at home despite being outsiders to the crowd that takes the on going course. Drop ins are welcome -- it's a little pricey, $20 per person. Nonetheless, we had a good time and were so inspired that we left class and went straight to a salsa club to try out our moves.

I believe her name was Laura for anyone wishing to seek or avoid her. This was not my first latin dance class and never have I felt so uncomfortable and disrespected as I did in that particular class. The teacher wanted to maake sure that she got through her planned class without helping the others with little problems they may have adopted. I hope others have better experiences but would recommend avoiding this school and that particular teacher like the plague.

My daughter has been taking Ballet at Danse Westmount for two years now. She loves it. It is a nice…read morestudio which is on the corner of de Maisonneuve and Wood in a building that is adjacent to the church. The teachers are RAD certified and there is even a pianist to play for the girls while they dance, rather than using recorded music. The children are encouraged to do their best, but at the same time to have fun dancing. The teachers my daughter has had have been wonderful. As well, Mrs. Meltzer, the director, has been very accommodating, to help parents who have crazy schedules and allow for the children to still be able to do what they love. Dance. There is metered street parking outside the studio on Wood Ave. But it can be very busy during the week because Dawson College is across the street. It is also conviently located near Atwater Metro station. And there is underground parking at the Place Alexis Nihon Shopping Centre and at Westmount Square. (But the underground parking is very expensive)

But I noticed that the main instructor is not very patient with the children and you can hear her through the door saying "Arggh! Listen!" and sounding quite frustrated (they are 3 year olds!). They also do not spend any extra time if your child did not get the lesson, they will just have her sit out and watch, and then they do not tell the parents that their child is not participating. I saw this happen on numerous occasions to many of the girls. It seems they are not there for the joy of teaching ballet but instead for a paycheck. The organiser also failed to mention that there are 3 sessions and therefore 3 times that you have to pay. When I first asked she told me it was 400$. But then the price was in fact 440$ plus 165$ for the last 5 classes. Not a very professional put together. Maybe they are more put together and professional for the older classes. However I was not impressed.

I took courses here from summer 2011 to fall 2012, to get my basic class 5 driver's licence…read more I had never jumped on the opportunity to get my permit when I turned 16 and never had a need to drive (still don't!) as the years went on. When I heard that there had been some law changes in 2010 and taking courses became mandatory, I figured I should get started as this requires a minimum of 13 months from start to finish. I picked this school because of its perfect location, located right by the bus terminal. I didn't do much research prior to going in, I saw that they had locations all over Quebec and knew people who went. There are other smaller driving schools nearby but I had heard horror stories of unqualified instructors, unreliable hours or courses that went uncredited. I had no issue getting the information I needed upon walking into Tecnic. Prices and course structure are clearly displayed. I signed up as quickly as I could, every month they have new classes, courses offered in english or french. The program is broken down into 4 phases and this is the same no matter where you go. You pay each phase once you have successfully passed it. They do offer payment plans as well. The total cost came to just under a thousand dollars. In theory classes are pretty basic, based on the material in the book, accompanied with some group activities and video watching. No issue there. My issue is concerning the first teacher I had, Priscilla (thankfully she no longer works there!). She was simply awful, extremely rough, showed attitude and spoke to others like they were inferior. She was the subject of many complaints. She made me feel like I was incompetent and when I couldn't master certain maneuvers on the road, I got yelled at. It was so bad I was on the verge of tears on my second or third time on the road. I had 2 different teachers after that and realised everyone has a different style - I encourage anyone to step up and get a change of schedule, or a change of teacher if it's not working out for you. Luckily, Tecnic is VERY flexible with their scheduling. They are also great at calling you the day before your class to give you a reminder. I preferred to have courses during the day and they were always able to accommodate me. Since most of their students go to school, spots in the evening fill up quickest. I've heard of many people failing their written exams and road exams several times although I believe it's due to lack of practice. The courses did not provide the practice I needed, they just provide instructions and basic learning steps. You WILL need to read the book and doing the practice questions is really helpful as they are similar to those asked on the exam. As for driving, I'm happy to report I passed all the tests and got my permit on my first try and within due time. It was a long process and I still don't feel the most confident, but I'm glad I learned the best skills, especially when it comes to safety and efficiency to not only be a better driver but a safer pedestrian as well.
