Alorrenea is a cider house in the village of Astigarraga which is on the outskirts of San Sebastian, about a 15-20 minute bus ride away (you can take the A2 bus from San Sebastian to get there). It's easily accessible and totally worth doing a day trip out to as it is one of the few sidrerias (cider house) in the area that opens for lunch during the week (the other two open for lunch during the week are Rezola and Sarasola). For the cost of 30 euros/person you get to drink all the cider you want and you enjoy a delicious spread of traditional cider house fare of Tortilla de Bacalao (an omelet with salt cod), Bacalao Frito con Pimientos (fried salt cod with peppers), Chuleton (grilled ribeye), and Walnuts with Cheese and Quince Paste for dessert. Everything is well prepared and very tasty though if you don't like your steak rare, you may need to speak up since most steaks I've seen in this region are still crimson inside when you cut into them. Visiting a cider house is a great way to partake in an experience that most locals enjoy and it's a surefire way to make friends and enjoy an atmosphere of conviviality. With the cider free flowing, how could it be otherwise? Walked off the beach in San Sebastián only one block and found this little place. The owner, we…read morecalled her Mama Kepa was so nice to the four of us tourist she made us feel welcome. Our first sit down was 3 hours enjoying Tapas, cold beer and conversation. The Pulpo (octopus) is served both warm or cold great tasting either way. First time for me to try that was delicious, sardines ham and cheese croquettes Serrano baguette sandwiches and Anchovies Tapas. Everything was fantastic. We ended up here four times in our three days to San Sebastián . Mama Kepa took a photo with us and gave us all a big hug on our last time. She made us welcome. Thank You!!
