I called ahead on a Saturday morning to ask if they had availability for a wash and blowout and was…read moretold yes. The only question asked was if I'd been there before, nothing about my hair length or thickness. I arrived at 10:30am, confirmed I just wanted a wash and blowout, and mentioned it was for a special occasion and I wanted a quick blowout to save time doing it myself. The wash lasted maybe 3 minutes with no detangling, and my hair went straight from soaking wet to a round brush and blow dryer. I showed a photo and asked for a bouncy blowout, but the stylist kept insisting on using a curling iron, which I didn't want. She also kept commenting on my hair's length and thickness. By 11am she had another client waiting and my hair wasn't even halfway done, and it felt like things were rushed from that point on. I eventually just let her use the curling iron so I could leave. She was friendly, but the result was not what I asked for. I ended up going home and curling my hair myself because it definitely didn't look like I had just been to a salon. Overall, a disappointing experience.

Despite always tipping generously and showing up respectfully, I was met with coldness, passive-aggression, and a noticeable lack of basic courtesy or acknowledgment unless prompted. At one visit, she ruined a favorite shirt of mine by getting dye on it. Her demeanor felt more about control than care, which made the experience uncomfortable over time. In my experience, Karla may exhibit covert narcissistic traits -- emotionally withholding, passive-aggressive, and unable to engage warmly unless it benefits her image. I would not recommend booking with her. There are plenty of stylists who know how to pair skill with basic human decency.

I absolutely love AP! AP has been my hair stylist since I moved to Florida about 5 years ago. She's…read moresuper talented and the only one I've trusted to cut and color (balayage) my long straight hair. With AP, I experimented and went from nearly hair down to my butt to just an inch or two past shoulder length. I've also tried a lob and long/wavy with bangs. She's extremely patient with hair cuts and cuts a little bit at a time until I've decided that it's short enough. She also remembers past conversations (even with 6 months+ in between) and the fact that I like my hair low maintenance. She takes that into consideration when giving advice for cuts / color, and is honest about what can and cannot be accomplished in one visit while maintaining healthy hair. Though I ought to go in more often, my color still looks good and naturally blended after nearly a year without touch ups. I find AP not only to be a hair magician, but also really down to earth and easy to talk to. She's an artist who knows her medium and I appreciate her work. Recently, she, Cristen and Lucia opened up their own place, Enlighten Hair Studio, and I am following her from Serene to the new location. I had the opportunity to get a hair cut at Enlighten last weekend and found it to be a great place to chill with a clean, modern meets artsy vibe. They're located on the second floor with ample parking in the lot downstairs. I took the stairs but noticed there's also an elevator next to the place. If you're looking for ideas for your next haircut, you can check out their Instagram pages and drool over the pics. There might be a waiting list for AP, but it's well worth the wait!!

I've been to salons where I say that I want just a trim and they take matters into their own hands and chop off 3 inches because they said my hair needed it. Frankly I don't care what they think my hair needs, just do what I ask you to do! Holly every time gives me exactly what I ask for and she blows my hair out with so much volume I just love it. Debbie the receptionist is one of the sweetest funniest people I have met always greeting me with a smile and a good chat while I wait. Jackie my colorist is amazing. Not only is the quality of her work better than I have ever had before in my life but when I am in her chair I feel as if I am chatting with a good friend who always has my best interest at heart with her recommendations. I also have two daughters ages 9 and 12 and I have begun to bring them to the salon as well. They LOVE it there! Dora takes such good care of them every time they come in. She makes them both look absolutely beautiful every visit and she chats with each of them and makes them feel special and unique in her chair. Tiffany and Rachel give the most amazing washes, again I can honestly say that I have never had such amazing scalp massages before I sat in their chairs for a wash.
