Subject: Unacceptable Service Standards and Operational Failures 21 Aug 2026…read moreDear Metropolitan Spa and Salon Management, I am writing to formally outline the extremely poor level of service and lack of basic hospitality I experienced during my recent appointment at your salon. As someone who oversees business operations across both the US and Australian markets, I know firsthand that premium pricing must be matched by a cohesive, high-standard customer experience. My visit demonstrated a complete failure on this front, characterized by a disjointed assembly-line process and an unprofessional staff. Here are some of the issues from my appointment: * Unjustified Pricing for Junior Staff: I was charged $177 solely for a root color and gloss, performed by an assistant. Charging a premium rate for a junior talent's chemical service--without even including a basic finishing service--is a remarkably poor value. * Unprofessional Conduct: When my hair was washed, I was left with wet hair Sitting in the chair waiting for some to dry my hair. Note I was not booked for a blow out or a styling and was not expecting to be given a blow dry or blow out. But I was also not expecting to be told wet hair just towel dabbed is the end of the servic without the rough dry. in fact I have never asked to be given a rough dry after a color service. Somehow AT AGE 53 with 35 years of coloring my hair in salons of all grades in 5 countries such as UK, Australia, India, PakiStan and the US, this was the first for me. Upon asking about a basic rough dry, I was informed it was simply not included and blow drying of hair (not blowout) is an extra charge and explicitly told that if I wanted a rough dry, I should do it myself. Directing a paying client to finish their own service is completely unacceptable. * Operational Disconnect: After I was eventually offered a "complimentary" dry, I was passed off to a third stylist. The person washing my hair had explicitly set aside a drying prep product for me, which the third stylist completely ignored. This lack of internal communication defeats the purpose of high-end, personalized care. * Lack of Basic Hospitality: At a premium price point, standard hospitality dictates offering a beverage menu (coffee, tea, etc.) for a lengthy chemical service. While a glass of water was brought to me, the bare minimum effort was evident throughout my entire time in the chair. I have received salon services in multiple countries, and I have never encountered a business model where a client is nearly sent out the door with wet, unkempt hair. Your salon appears to be relying on its Princeton zip code rather than delivering actual luxury service. Letting clients leave your establishment looking unfinished--and treating them as an inconvenience when they expect basic professional courtesy--is a rapid way to damage your brand's reputation and client retention. I am sharing this so you are fully aware of the substandard environment currently operating on your floor. This is a genuine experience from a person who should not have been allowed to leave as they did and paying $177, in a "luxury" salon. I will not be returning to this salon. Karen did a wonderful job, and explained everything to me as she was doing it. I came in for a deva cut for my weird, kind of wavy kind of straight hair. Instead of charging me for the more expensive cut, she talked to me about doing a normal cut instead for now, and told me about how to actually take care of my waves so that if I wanted a deva cut next time, I would be ready for it. She easily could have made herself an extra $40, and she went out of her way to put that back in my pocket. She explained to me the ingredients to look for in shampoos and conditioners, never pushing salon products. I forget the name of it, but she discussed my hairs health and highly recommended an in-salon treatment to help with my hairs dryness, I went for it and will NEVER look back! Since moving to a home with very hard water, my hair has been so dry. I cannot believe that treatment was all it took for my hair to be healthy and again, it has an actual SHINE to it! And it's still going weeks later, not the sort of thing where 4 days later the treatment effects are gone and it was all a smoke show. My hair is truly just healthier now. I will definitely be getting that treatment again when the hard water wrecks my hair with more time. None of that even touches on the cut itself, which is wonderful. She let me talk about what I was thinking, show photos, and confirmed what I said afterwards so I wasn't worried she missed anything. She checked in with me on length and style as she was cutting layers. In this process she even, once again, continued to mention things that were for my benefit and not her own. For example, we discussed bangs/going short, as I was thinking about it but not sure (i have long hair), and she mentioned that I seemed like the kind of person that gets a cut every year or so (accurate, lol) and that I should think about how if I get bangs &/or go short, I would likely be in need of much more frequent cuts, especially with bangs, and to add the cost of those visits or the effort of learning how to trim bangs myself into my styler consideration. She easily could have hyped me up for bangs, given me what I'm sure would have been an excellent cut, and been excited with her new every 3 month client instead of an annual one. She seems like the type of person who is very passionate about her work and just can't help but do a great job and really lay out all your options for you. An excellent communicator. I would highly recommend Karen and the village salon.

The staff is wonderful and very welcoming. The atmosphere of this salon is exactly what you'd want on a day you are getting your hair done. It's a very clean and open space - my old salon was very small and cramped I worried about knocking things over. Plus they have coffee and snacks! And for a city girl like me who in the past had to run out mid appointment to feed the meter - there's ample parking! I briefly spoke to the owner, Brittany, after my first visit and you can tell she put a lot of work into bringing her vision into life. I also see the way she treats her staff like family and how they are all happy to be there. I think anyone would be lucky to be working for her. Hailey is my go to for all things hair now. I moved to Mercer County a few months ago and am so happy I found this salon. My 2nd visit I got a full balayage/highlights and absolute LOVE the way it came out. Hailey takes her time, gets to know you and double checks the look you're aiming for. I'm already booked for a gloss my next appointment. I don't believe they are absurdly overpriced at all.
