This place is great. It has it all, local gossip on tap, good vibes, drinks+snacks, plus the best haircut in the area. My hair is definitely on the more challenging end of the spectrum. Mikayla has never had any issue tackling my unwieldy, stubborn curls. Shes awesome. read more

2021 Spring update: Still FABULOUS. After chopping my own hair and going gray. . . I needed some help. Kelly evened my mess, gave me a toner to hide the oxidation of the grays and a beautiful blow dry. Summer update...STILL Fabulous . A good selection of products too. Kelly at Salon Fabulous always gives me the perfect color and cut whenever I come to Chatham. And since Kelly became the owner, the salon is even MORE FABULOUS! She renovated the entire salon and it's so fresh, bright and inviting. When you arrive you'll find scones or some other tasty little treat available while you wait along with coffee and tea. The salon is perfectly located right in the heart of Chatham's Main Street. It's apparent that Salon Fabulous has an enthusiastic and loyal customer base since it's common for other clients to pop in to say hi as they're passing by. Kelly knows everyone by name and is one of the friendliest, most stylish and caring Chatham locals I've ever met. Additionally, compared to what I'd spend in NYC for a full highlight & cut, Salon Fabulous is HALF THE PRICE! I'm seriously ready to start making this my regular spot, even if I have to wait to come to Chatham. you'll feel like you're in the movie "steel magnolias" here. warm, inviting, cozy, gossipy, friendly, and committed to beauty...for the most part. the owner clearly takes a lot of pride in her shop decorating the pink walls with head shots of cinematic greats such as bacall, dietrich, davis, ball and more. she has another wall of pics with famous people she's met. she pipes italian crooner music (i was crackin' up) has warm coffee brewing, serves water in wine glasses...makes it nice and cozy. what's also cute is how all the chairs face the center of the room so that they can all talk. so why missing two stars, you ask? 1. when i called to make the appointment the person who answered the phone was abrupt and upon asking if they have mani/pedi she said, "we don't do that here' then the owner piped in and said, "yes we do, she'll be here tomorrow" staff miscommunication. 2. upon arrival and getting excited about the cozy couches in the welcome area, i was disappointed to be taken to the back and seated in a chair where she had to quickly remove bags, pillows and make room for me. 3. When i changed my order to just a mani she got flustered and hurridly cleaned up the pedicure set up. 4. the treatment wasn't consistent on both hands, plus she did not manicure the cuticles instead she just jammed them into the nail bed. i about died right then and there and wanted to escape! but it was obvious that any changes were not handled well. 5. the "manicurist and stylist" was not in sync with the chattiness of the other ladies. not once did she ask me a question but sure did talk all about herself. 6. Usually when getting a mani/pedi they ask you to pick your color. She asked me what shade I wanted hen pulled out a huge plasic bag and began digging through her "bag o tricks" and pulled out what she thought would fit. unbelieveable. it's clear this shop, however sweet, ain't set up for manicure and pedicures. 7. Then came the hair. Granted, my hair ain't easy. i wanted a wash and blow dry to make it silky and flip out. My stylist at home (this is a mean comparison) uses a huge round brush and blow dries it in 30 min. This poor woman worked so hard using a small round brush and then with a curling iron (which hasn't touched my hair since 1993) she curled and curled and curled for over an hour. i was professional by keeping my mouth shut, but she sure didn't know what the hell she was doing. it didn't turn out exactly like i wanted, but thank god it was humid and those little curls fell out. i gave her a sympathy tip. The other ladies all looked like they were happy with their hair. So, Salon Fabulous is not quite what you'd expect, but it has charm, warmth and sweetness, but not as fab as i would have hoped... read more

Love love LOVE Salon Fabulous! Such a warm and welcome place to visit and they love to pamper (neck massage before your hair cut? Yes please!) They offer tea, coffee and water in beautiful glasses and they always have yummy treats on hand, too! And -most importantly! - they listen to what you would like for your hair style and they do an amazing job by offering suggestions and just being supportive of what you might like! As for coloring/highlighting?! FABULOUS! And I am *picky* about my color and they really do such a beautiful job! Salon Fabulous is a great place for a cut, color and a little "me" time. As for the comments from Riley J....the salon only has 2 people working there to cut and color, the owner and another stylist who has been there since the salon opened. They would never put their clients out and as they encourage walk ins I'm sure they can not always accommodate them as this place is very busy. They go out of their way to make your experience as relaxing and enjoyable as they possibly can! ALWAYS! read more

I found my trip into Salon Fabulous to be wonderful. Being from New York, visiting a small town, I found it to be quite refreshing. I found the staff to be warm and friendly as was the atmosphere. The decor was charming with pictures of movie stars on the wall and some pictures of the owner with stars she has met, it was equally interesting to find out she was a singer as well, and I found her personality quite entertaining. Upon walking in I was greeted warmly and immediately felt at home. I never sensed any gossip, which can be prevelent in most salons. I saw professional styilsts committed to their guests and their craft. I felt it a nice touch to be served water in a beautiful glass and given a neck and shoulder massage before my service. What struck me was how nice the owner was and her staff, but also how friendly the other guests were, genuinely all were having a good time being in salon fabulous! I had a haircut and blow dry. I found it comforting that the owner listened to what I wanted and offered suggestions, without being pushy. Her experience was apparent as she cut my hair and styled it with precision and finesse, all the while making me feel relaxed and secure knowing I was in good hands. It was also fun to find out she was from New York as well, but she made it clear that I was the focus and did not dominate the conversation about herself. My hair came out great! I was so excited that it came out exactly how I wanted it! I asked about having my nails done, and the owner told me they don't offer that service at the moment, due to her small boutique space, but assured me that the services they do offer make it worth a trip to Salon Fabulous and that she is committed to the utmost comfort and enjoyment of her guests. From beginning to end, I felt pampered, welcome and had a ball at salon fabulous and left feeling fabulous, meeting new interesting people, and having a unique hair experience. I plan to go to Salon Fabulous every time I visit Cape Cod. With all do respect to the other reviewer, I own my own business, and I realize how important your staff can be to a first impression. I would like to congratulate the owner for surrounding herself with a wonderful staff, and did not have any experience close to the previous reviewer, except I share her love of the decor and atmosphere! In business there are good days and not so good days, good employees and not so good employees. It seems to me that the owner of Salon Fabulous was smart enough to "let go" of that negative employee spoken of in the previous review, and furthermore continuing her formula for success as a savvy businesswoman with her valuable clientelle in mind.
