I called back a second time and asked the receptionist to confirm the price of the extension - once again it was a $50 fee. so we show up for our appointment and we find out it's now $200 we asked to speak to the manager and explain our predicament - the manager started scolding me . I asked her if we could meet in the middle and split the cost therefore they don't lose money but we'd also don't pay for something we were missed quoted twice on.- the manager then said "this ain't no game show honey" and she continued to scold me.... She's very condescending and rude. I would think twice before going to her or her store for service. read more

I left salon cora with completely botched hair. the stylist, whom i will not name as she is a younger much more inexperienced stylist, did a bleach treatment on me which left my hair orange and patchy. she said she loved the color, which i could not see as it was still wet, and had me leave without attempting to tone me. matter of fact, she said it didn't need toner. i went to a different salon and they were astonished she let me leave like that. they kept apologizing and had to do a whole color correction on me which cost me even more money due to the salon cora stylist's incompetence. Unlike EVERY other stylist I've ever seen, she was honest and said she could cut my hair like the photos I showed her, but my hair wouldn't look like the photos. Instead, I put my trust in her. Let me start by saying ... Salon Cora is the best salon the area. I have been to the Salon Cora multiple time but just visited the new location since they moved from Prairie Grove. It's much bigger and just as nice as their previous salon. I have longer curly hair and if not cut right It has to get cut right or looks really bad. Denise took care of me today getting a haircut and a little touchup on my (ahem... grayish lol) hair or two coming in. Yes I'm a guy... but guys can be picky too and been to Mario and many other salons and barbershops around which have let me down and in other cases been way overpriced. The Salon Cora team is amazing and would highly recommend coming here to treat yourself. I just like their personal touch and they have consistently done an excellent job cutting my hair. Took my son for a haircut with Anna. She was very sweet and made conversation with him. My son described what he wanted to her (he is 13) and she cut his hair. We were there for about 15 minutes. His hair looked ok when we left but once we got home and he took a shower, I noticed how uneven it was and how she didn't blend the back. My husband had to take him somewhere else to fix his hair. Unfortunately we will not be coming back. With haircut and tip we paid over $49. I'm not sure if she needed to leave for the day but it felt rushed. UPDATE: Salon manager Sam did reach out to apologize and stated that a refund would be issued (still waiting on that) and that if I decide to come back, the next haircut would be on them. I just went here for the first time today and I have to say I was impressed! Faith did my hair and she did a FANTASTIC job! I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she verbally repeated what I was looking for to verify she understood what I wanted. She asked about any allergies right away, which I appreciated. The scalp massage she did while washing my hair felt amazing. Some places feel very rushed when you are getting your hair done, but not here! Faith took her time and was meticulous with all of the layering. She was friendly and pleasant, but also could sense I'm introverted and didn't push me to converse a lot, which made me feel a lot more comfortable. My go-to stylist unexpectedly cancelled my appointment five days before my wedding. Salon Cora was able to squeeze me in with Ashlee the day before my wedding. Maybe I'm emotional because I just got married, but Ashlee did such an amazing job that I literally cried. She was so professional and kind, she shared in my excitement for my big day, and she put so much extra time and care into my hair to make sure everything was perfect. She even cleaned my skin several times to make sure there was no dye on my face and neck. Despite never working with me before, she listened to what I wanted and it came out perfectly. I find the owner of the salon to be extremely condescending and confrontational. For the services I have done like anyone else, I spend a good amount of $$$ and I always have tipped very well as I know the hairstylists work hard for their money and I appreciate them, I could not do what they do! At 1 of the several appointments to the salon, when I did not care for the color of my hair and felt it was looking extremely brassy and orange, I was polite about it-I know things happen but at my next appointment when the same highlight service as before was offered, I was not only concerned about the brassiness again but was worried my hair was not heading in the direction to be the desired color that I wanted or even somewhat close, so when the owner was walking by and asked me how I was doing, I conversed with her briefly as I had before and simply asked her opinion. That was when her whole attitude towards me seemed to take a change. She was snotty and snappy. There I sat feeling like I shouldn't have asked her for advice on my own hair. It's a crappy feeling! Following that appointment, even though I felt somewhat uncomfortable, I went back. Figured no big deal right, maybe she was just having a day and it would pass. There was another issue following that where I had to call to cancel a same day appointment right when the salon opened for my appointment at 4 due to a family emergency with my child that was life threatening. I fully understand that a policy is a policy and didn't even mind paying the $25. It was the way that the message was sent. The rude, "I've got a salon to run." The confrontational manner of it when I had tried and would have rather discussed this matter over the phone with the owner rather than having her rudely try to talk to me when I was there for an appointment in front of people and trying to enjoy having my hair washed. Not to mention, I was double booked for this appointment and didn't even know it. Again, I overlooked and continued to go to the salon because I was trying to stick to 1 hair person for consistency. Ever since asking her opinion though, when I am there for an appointment now, it's just awkward. The owner seems to keep a watchful eye as if I have caused her some kind of problem or as if I have caused her some trouble, a totally different demeanor than she took on when I first met her. Recently, I ordered some hair extensions and had asked that I receive a phone call when they came in so that I could book to get them put in before leaving for a vacation. A couple of weeks had gone by and I hadn't heard from the salon. Being told they usually take a few days to come in, I gave them a call. Yes they were in, they had not reached out, and I was told I wouldn't be able to get in until mid July at best. I simply went to pick up the hair that I had already purchased and didn't think too much of it until when I was there, was just leaving, and the owner again seemed to be watching me like a Hawk, coming up to the front desk asking her front desk staff as I was leaving, "What's up." Acting like I was there to cause a problem. I don't feel I have done anything to warrant being treated as a "problem" and will choose not to return back to the salon due to the awkward nature after asking a question. I've given this time to pass thinking it's no big deal and it'll eventually fall off but it hasn't and only seems to be getting worse. I've never had an issue at any other salon I've gone to and will not be made to feel like I can't speak up about my own hair. Going to the salon is supposed to be a nice experience so I will take my business elsewhere where the owner is happy to answer questions and doesn't get offended and act as such. read more

I asked for a trim repeatedly to keep my hair long and they still gave me a HAIR CUT. Manager didn't believe me when I said I got what I did not ask for. They cut my hair way to short. This isn't the first time this has happened either. Really just not good listeners there.On top of that I went here a few months ago, they made my hair completely ORANGE. It's totally bizarre. I got no refunds for both of my appointments. I will be calling tomorrow and hopefully can get a refund on my HAIR CUT after I asked for a TRIM. I have been to the salon a few times now and I have jumped around with different stylists. Not because I favored one over the other but mainly because of scheduling and I'll take whoever is available. Everyone I've had so far has listened to my concerns and answered any questions I've had to the best of their ability. They are all so nice, talented, and I've had great service. I've gotten highlights, haircuts and eyebrow waxes so far at the salon and I have yet to be disappointed. I will say that some things are more on the expensive side. This was my first time to Salon Cora after having previously trekked into Chicago every time I wanted my hair done since I didn't feel like finding someone new after moving to the burbs. When my former stylist moved on, I decided it was time, and after some googling and perusing Yelp I settled on Salon Cora. I went to Kayla at the Salon based on yelp reviews. She's a sweet, young girl, and we had excellent banter, but I left with uneven color and no response when I attempted to contact her to try and correct it. In her defense, the lighting in the salon is terrible, so I didn't realize while I was there. I LOVED the color while in the chair. I even gave her a rave review initially when in store seeing the color. As soon as I got in the car, though, I noticed something off, but I thought perhaps it was bad lighting in my car. 24 hours later and it was clear that the color was bad. Orange on top, yellow on the left, blended golden (and how it should be) on the right. When I left the salon, Kayla excitedly gave me her card to follow her on Insta and contact her if needed anything. My first course of action when I realized the problem (more than a week ago) was, therefore, to contact her directly as she requested. However, she never responded. I get it; she's quite young and inexperienced. I'm sure she's doing the best she can. I won't be back, though. The salon is listed with a Crystal Lake address but really they're in the middle of no where outside Crystal Lake but still able to use the address. You'll be driving into a red barn strip mall with a hot dog stand and car detail place. Honestly, as I write this, I laugh at why I ever thought this would be a good idea. Nice ladies and very welcoming salon. I think they do a really good job at giving a nice quality haircut. Unfortunately for the color, the mark got missed on me this time. I showed 3 pictures of what I wanted: dark brown base with nice caramel highlights. Instead, the base of my hair didn't change at all and I was given golden highlights. At 185.00 (I gave 30.00 for the tip because she was a nice lady and is experienced) the price is about what most places in Chicago would charge & the cut was quality, but...it just isn't what I wanted. The stylist knew I wasn't happy and offered to fix it later, but I am not going to do that---that never works out. I went to Salon Cora because it's close to Home and I need a change from my old salon. I decided to go for a more daring haircut and ended up chopping off 7 inches I my hair. I absolutely love this place, I had went to another salon (Jc Penny, In Style) before Salon Cora and they ruined my hair. I asked the other salon specifically to not add layers to my hair bc I didn't want any since I wanted the thicker even straight look. I wanted the straight cut that girls get with the clippers. Some pieces were longer than others and my hair appeared thinner at the end. I went to salon Cora and my hairstylist listened to me very carefully and cut my hair the way I wanted it! She used the clippers method and my hair came out so perfect! Right when you walk in the salon, you feel welcomed! They offered me a beverage as soon as I walked in and it's the perfect atmosphere! From the first phone contact everyone I spoke with was warm, friendly, upbeat, and helpful! I am in my fifties and have never colored my hair but with my daughter's wedding approaching the bands of white were motivating me. I had no idea what to ask for so I just told the stylist, Jenni, that I wanted it to look "natural" and be low maintenance. She immediately knew what to do and I am thrilled with the results.
