I…read morebooked my appointment for Saturday May 24th but little did I know my cousin's wedding would be held on Sunday May 25th. When I called to see if I can reschedule it to the following day, I was told no appointments under my name existed. I was peeved but it worked out fine since I needed it for Sunday anyway. Sunday was booked for 2PM. I arrived at 12:15PM and requested to be seen earlier. I was told to come back at 12:30PM. Yay! I was very anxious because every time I step out of MAC, I feel like a million bucks. I assumed every MAC would create the same experience. Sadly, that did not occur. Although the girl that did my makeup was very nice but she didn't create the smoky eyes like I asked and the lashes she put on me looked incredibly fake. Granted I know I can't expect to look "natural" after a makeup session but it looked totally unreal in an unpleasant manner. To me. Everyone at the wedding liked it but that goes to show you that I do not care what people think or say about me - what matters to me is how I feel and see myself. I was unhappy. My fault. I should have gone to the MAC in San Jose at Westfield Valley Fair. This is just one of many that is added to my "why Santa Cruz sucks" mental list. Side note: I had a blast at my cousin's wedding and cannot wait for another event to get glamorous for. I'm not a makeup person and will never be. You just need to spend at least $50 in MAC products for the makeup session; a really good deal.

I don't usually leave reviews for major department stores and chains but the staff at this MAC…read morecounter, especially Jasmine, is so deserving. I have almost completely converted to MAC makeup so I end up here a lot - I can't seem to run out of everything at the same time. The counter seems to be permanently swamped but you always get at least some acknowledgement that you are there and waiting, which makes such a difference. The artists are willing to give recommendations - I always need help finding that perfect everyday shadow, and I have never been disappointed with their picks. For Halloween this year, I decided to be 100% girly and wanted to add fake lashes to my look. I have been wanting to try them for a while, but the application process and glue in particular scared me. I mentioned them to Jasmine as an afterthought, and she went through the entire procedure with me, did the motions in front of the mirror, trimmed the lashes, and gave me one of the Q-tippy applicators for the glue. So nice! Come Halloween, I got them on my lids first try and they looked amazing. This has totally opened up a whole new world of femininity for me.

A nightmare..I was a patient of Dr. Steven Garner, and my experience caused lasting harm. I signed…read morewhat I understood to be a limited consent form, with risks listed as bleeding, infection, and scarring. The operative report later described a much broader procedure involving my hand, wrist, tendons, Hunter rod placement, and median nerve issues that did not match my understanding or consent. Years later, I am still living with the consequences and still seeking clarity about the consent form and the surgical record. My signature was real. My informed consent to the scope of what was done was not. I am alive, clear-minded, and still standing.

Open Letter to Dr. Garner…read more Hello Dr. Garner, It took me more than 10 years to summon the strength to write you this letter. The rhinoplasty you gave me in 2012 was an absolute disaster. I was only 21 years old and needed your help in making the best decision for myself at the time. You failed as a clinician to do this; you failed to guide me in the process. As a result of the rhinoplasty: 1. I looked and felt terrible with a dreadful "ski slope" nose. 2. I looked many years younger as a result of my new nose. 3. My breathing was not improved, despite your assurances. I lost so much of the character of my face which, in turned, helped ruin my stage acting career. Your negligence in counseling me about how the rhinoplasty would actually impact my appearance was particularly devastating. You never mentioned to me that my nose would become feminine and like a "ski slope," and not just be straight and/or masculine. You never cautioned me about how it would make me look years younger (Which has hurt my professional career prospects - I am constantly mistaken to be a decade younger than I am and passed over for promotions). You never warned me that it could take away character from my face and image. And most egregiously, you could and should have used photo editing technology to help me visualize how I would look hypothetically with a different nose. This is industry standard! I would never ever have pursed this surgery if I knew what the result would be. It was one of the worst mistakes of my life. I am exploring all recourse options now, including revision rhinoplasty but also legal action to get some remedy for all I have lost. I can't imagine how your work has hurt other people with your lack of transparency. Your deeply saddened former patient, Albert

Parking is street only which means there is no parking, although the beach parking lots are not even a block away, in summer as this place is so very popular that may not be as helpful as you may hope. This is a tiny shop, so small that three people will fill it up. While the main portion of the stock is dessert themed bathing stuff-bath bombs (Also known as bubble bars. For those that may not know bath bombs are used to add essential oils, scent, bubbles, color and whatnot to the tub. Typically they fizz up a bit as well.), scrubs, oils, lotions, shampoos and whatnot as well as yes, lotions of the intimate hur hur hur kind. The owner was originally thinking of a one stop shop for everything needed for a luxe, sensuous, bath excepting the bathroom, but wound up selling more of the soaps and scrubs as opposed to the silky private lotion thingys. Having said that if you are needing some quality lubrication for that special adult time, yeah sure they have it. Make no mistake however this is not an adult shop. But most folks just pick up the bath bomb stuff, and it actually manages to be kid friendly. Sounds odd or quirky? Hey welcome to the north bay. Overall it's a great shop for bathroom fluff.

The sales person working here was full of knowledge and was a great salesperson. They had so many different things I have never even heard of! I didn't end up buying anything since my wallet was a bit too empty. However, in the future I would love to come treat myself to some of their fun items! Everything smelled amazing in here and I love supporting local places.
