I am beyond happy with my haircut from Sandra today. She is an excellent and extremely professional hair stylist. First, let me discuss the salon itself. During COVID it's important to feel comfortable and safe, especially going to a salon where you are in contact with other people. Firstly, there were temperature checks, contract tracing sheet (if needed), 6 foot distancing between clients, sanitation, and all staff and clients were wearing a mask. I really appreciate the accommodations done to protect all individuals in the salon. The parking is great and there are plenty of spaces, and the salon is super easy to find. I also like that there is a lovely staff member continuously cleaning the floor in the salon, to keep it free of hair and clean for everyone. For a salon in Bethesda, I'm also very happy with the prices. Now to my stylist. SANDRA IS INCREDIBLE. You MUST go to her in this salon. After my previous stylist moved, it was hard to trust a stylist to change to (as I'm sure many feel the same way when you get attached to a stylist). I can say that I have officially switched. Firstly, Sandra is very kind and easy to talk to. She is very pleasant and is detail oriented making sure you are happy with what she's doing. She asks questions and makes sure that you are getting EXACTLY what you want. Also, she gives recommendations on what to do with your hair texture, and what products are good for styling your hair. Gretchen has been my stylist most of that time and she is top-notch - fabulous colorist, extremely talented with the cut and a true artist with a blow dryer! I really wanted to be able to give a good review after my visit today, but I just can't do it. Everyone was really nice in the salon, and if this were just for customer service then I would be giving a 5 star review. I called this morning to get an appointment for a color correction. I had a horrible experience at a different salon earlier this week. I got a consultation, and was excited to hear that I just needed a treatment and that the color could definitely be fixed. Unfortunately this just wasn't true. The protein treatment they gave me definitely made my hair feel better, but the color is even worse now. I just wanted to get a golden blonde and I left there even more brunette than when I came in and with the same copper roots I walked in with. I'm really not sure what I just paid $150 for. I could have gone to Sally Beauty Supply for $5 and given myself a protein treatment and been just as unhappy as I am now. read more

Despite the name, Salon Central is NOT that central if you don't have a car. I came across a deal for a cut and deep conditioning at Salon Central on Bloomspot right when I was searching for a cheap haircut. I decided to treat myself and try it out. I can't remember if the deal was $29 or $39, but the actual cost was 2 trains and a 40-minute wait in the freezing cold for a 15-minute bus ride. I have pin-straight hair that I like to keep long, so it's very low maintenance. I absolutely refuse to spend more than $30 on haircuts unless it's for a special occasion. After a session with Jay, I can see why some people fork over exorbitant amounts of money for this type of treatment. Jay started off my session with an assessment of my hair and regimen, then she handpicked the shampoo and conditioner for the hairwasher to use on me. The haircut itself was very quick, which is normal since I just asked for a trim. She took her time blow-drying and styling my very long hair. I walked out with what felt like a brand new head of hair. My extremely thin hair had never felt so thick and voluminous. Other highs: Jay never pushed any expensive salon products on me. I have never dyed my hair and I'm firmly opposed to it, so she didn't push any coloring services and products on me. Very friendly staff who has converted me. She listens to what I want and always follows through. I love that I have so much trust in her that I can just tell her to "do her thing" and know that I'm going to be happy with the result every time. 2. The stylist are continuously refining their skills through trainings at the salon. 3. The customer service is excellent. Once you walk in, you're greeted, get to sit on the couch, they take your jacket, ask if you want something to drink, wash your hair and then you get your stylist. I've been coming to Terrance for over.. man.. it's got to be about 8+ years by now.. originally, I went to 'beautiful life salon'. Cheap cuts, great stylists, but a mildly awkward situation being one of the few non-asians.. haha. When Terrance left, he let me know where he was going and about the increase in price. But trust me, the $20 increase for the cut is always worth it. Quality over quantity for my hair care. After having such a wonderful experience when Gretchen cut my hair last month, I decided to go back to have her highlight my hair. Honestly, I didn't really have complaints about the person that used to do my highlights, but I wanted to try Gretchen because I liked her so much. I'm so glad I did!! Her talents are not just with the scissors -- she did a fantastic job with my color!!! The blonde highlights are bright and beautiful instead of the more brassy look (which I didn't even realize I had before)! I'm so glad I moved to Salon Central. I've been to Salon Central twice, and yesterday - my second visit - sealed it as my new go-to salon. After bouncing around different salons in the area for years, I left happier than I ever have after my afternoon appointment with Jay. First of all, they were able to squeeze me in three hours after I called, which is my own fault for deciding last-minute I needed a haircut before a wedding this upcoming weekend. Second, Jay spent a solid 5 minutes looking at my hair and explaining what the current situation was, and the direction she thought I should go. Third, the best shampoo/head massage OF ALL TIME. And last, Jay did not push any products on me - she actually insisted I use up what I had at home first - but let me know what she thought would work best for my hair. I will definitely be stopping by the salon in the future to pick up products when my run out! Most importantly, I left with a fantastic haircut. Seriously, my oblivious male roommate noticed and complimented me as soon as I walked in the door, which hasn't happened in MANY haircuts. I recently had my hair colored, highlighted and cut. The salon staff is friendly and welcoming. It was my first trip to the salon so I was not familiar with the pricing for the services. My stylist did a good job with the services performed. We did have some mis-communication on pricing , but Gail the owner ( who could not be nicer) straightened out the issue in a timely and professional manner. So I found out about Salon Central from a girl who used to work the front desk. She raved about the hair stylists here and I needed a change the place I was at just was not getting it done right anymore. I went to see Sara. Sara is one of the best things that has ever happened to my hair. She is a great stylist. She is the first stylist I have had that actually listens to what I want and doesn't go too above. When I first started going to her I had my hair cut one length, no layers or anything. I gave up on getting layers many years ago because hair stylists previously would always make my hair look like steps and cut it really stair-like layers. Sara mastered it. She understood my complaint and got to business. I have been going to see Sara now for almost two years.It is a pleasure every time. The new front desk girl Alex has been there for as long as I have been going there. I have to say that is really nice as well. Having low turnover in a receptionist position says a lot about the business in general. Alex is reliable and courteous to everyone that comes in and out of there. Speaking of turnover, I noticed that majority of the hair stylists have been there since I have been going there as well. It seems like everyone just flows together and gets along really great. Even the shampoo assistants have been there forever. I am really happy with the place, location, hours, and service. Can't complain. I've been going to Salon Central for several years, ever since my stylist moved there from another salon.. I've not had much interaction with the other stylists, except in passing -- and once when one of the other stylists cut my son's hair because our stylist was not available -- but they all seem to know what they are doing. I know that my stylist has won competitions, and I think that some of the others have too. I agree with the earlier reviewer about the low arrogance atmosphere. I'm not sure about his/her comment about the cost exorbitant, however. It doesn't seem any higher than what I paid at a salon I used to go to where everyone had their noses in the air. My children (now in their late teens) and husband have all gone to my stylist at Salon Central several times and were all satisfied with the results, for the most part. The owner is continuously updating the salon and making improvements. She cut off three inches instead of one. Awful layers and gave me brown highlights with huge roots making my roots worse. Tall Asian lady with an awful dye job herself. I decided to give this place a try after my regular hair dresser moved to California. The place is modern, clean and the staff is friendly. Mitch, the hair washer was very sweet. I notice they had a $100(cut ,color,partial highlight,blowdry) offer so of course I was going to take advantage of it . I called to make my appointment, and told the receptionist that I am a brunette wanting to go blonde. She booked my for a "full highlights appointment ,and the Owner told me that I would pay the difference for whatever I was getting done. Upon arrival, everyone was super nice, I'm at my hairdresser and explained to her exactly what I wanted and showed pictures - *To be a cooler blonde (not warm ) *Something that will grow out nicely without having to maintain too much *for it to have great flow/blending The photos I showed her had an ombre look . I explained to her that I get it if the color that I wanted was too difficult to get , just to give me something similar. Then she proceeds to say that some people's hair only lifts to a warm color ,and I said that's fine if that is the case. Before she starts the process she mentioned that I am using the "$100 deal". I said ,yes. Then she says that it's a big job and that she didn't have that much time.(which this statement repeatedly was said, even though I did book for a larger time slot). So she start working ,coloring and foiling ,and then I get my hair washed . I noticed almost immediately that this isn't what I asked for. The blond was coppery and it was only underneath the outside of my hair was still dark brown . It was just extremely awkward, and didn't make sense . There was no sense of blending. So I asked for her to try to fix it , she asked if I wanted her to fix it that day or if I could come back. Obviously I wanted it fix right then and there....it was not going to leave the salon with what I thought to be terrible hair. So she added some highlights to the outside of my hair. It looked a bit better , but the color was still coppery and I still had no blending since I had this weird horizontal stripe of brown hair in the middle . By that time I had been there 5 hours ,I just wanted to leave. I go to pay , and for some reason it ended up being $235, I was way too tired to argue. I left with a mediocre haircut and less than par color. The next day I made a color correct appointment with a different salon . I just wish that if the stylist wasn't able to do what I wanted,then tell me. I understand the color might have been hard, but at least get the technique. I am sure they do great color and cuts of other people , and I get sometimes people have hiccups . It just sucks that the "hiccup" was on me. read more

I've been following my hairdresser, Limor, around for a couple of years now and she recently moved to Salon Central. She has been cutting, treating, dying, highlighting, and maintaining hair extensions since I first started seeing her. This salon is by far my favorite salon that she has worked at because she has found a salon where the whole staff is as friendly and welcoming as she is. I have only had her do my hair within the salon, but I always leave happy with what she has done. She is one of the few options I have (excluding specialty shops) to get my extensions maintained. I was very pleased with my experience at Salon Central. When I arrived my hair dresser was ready for my appointment and not running late, she took time to do a thorough consultation, I am really happy with my hair color and the fees for service were in line with market rates for the area. There were also other things that were nice about this salon such as free parking, the staff was very friendly and offers beverages to the clients, I did not see any employees on cell phones, there was not loud music blaring and the salon was very clean. I've been to Salon Central twice now. Both times I've had my hair colored and cut by Michal. I went back to her after almost a year (this was the first I'd had my hair done since I last saw her), and she recognized me...or at least that she'd cut my hair before, which impressed me. I showed her a picture of what she had done the previous time, and told her I wanted something similar. She was able to take the same cut and update it a bit. As a loyal client at another salon for more than 5 years, I came into salon central today as a first time client for a color correction. I was so pleasantly surprised. As my daughter and I walked in, the receptionist held the door open saying to come in. Made me feel welcome when I booked on the phone, and in person she was adorable and sweet. Limor took me to her chair and we both knew my hair was in bad shape. I have platinum blonde hair. Unbeknownst to Limor, I have been extremely sick for the past months and was losing hair. I'm sure the bleach didn't help, but instead of being judgemental or unkind, Limor was just the opposite. Kind hearted, confident, and so skilled, she fixed my hair with a smile and even made it feel healthier. She treated both my daughter and I to a wonderful experience. Came to Salon Central based on Yelp reviews. I was able to make an appointment with the recommended Sara about a week out. The salon is conveniently located and easy to get to. I was warmly greeted by Gail on my arrival. She was very attentive to the fact it was my first time there and offered me coffee/water. We chatted a bit as Sara had not yet arrived. Everyone was very friendly. I did not wait long and Sara took me back as soon as she got in. She was a sweetheart and listened wonderfully about my hair issues and made recommendations to complement my concerns. Gloria did an excellent job washing and massaging my scalp. The cut came out beautiful and I was happy I didn't have to cut off more than an inch after waiting almost 8 months for a cut! The cut was $75 which is a little higher than what I have paid elsewhere but my hair is long (mid-back) and takes awhile to blow out. Sara did suggest a product (that I ended up buying) and highlights which I have never done as the sun does a fine job. The only knock down was I didn't realize you couldn't put a tip on credit card. It has to be cash or check. It would have been nice to have been informed on the phone when I booked the appointment so I could have had enough to provide a good tip. I was just short and I hate giving bad tips. read more
