This review is to acknowledge the skill, professionalism, and kindness, Crystal has shown to my wonderful four year-old granddaughter Crystal is now the stylist for three generations in my family. All of whom she treats with kindness patience and phenomenal skill. It is obvious watching Crystal work on my granddaughter how unbelievably talented she is. There's just a certain fluid movement that she has that gives you great confidence in her ability. The end result is of course amazing. Crystal also does a fabulous job on both my wife's hair and my grown daughters. Salon Central really has a sophisticated vibe through simplicity. It has an open air feel with expert lighting with well spaced seating. Men and women of all ages are clients there. With a very friendly atmosphere. As for Crystal, I am sorry I can only give her five stars. She deserves more. read more

Today I went to Salon Central. Gal was my stylist and it was amazing. She was nice, washed my hair good, didn't pull at it or anything, and made sure I felt comfortable. I am beyond happy with my haircut from Sandra today. She is an excellent and extremely professional hair stylist. First, let me discuss the salon itself. During COVID it's important to feel comfortable and safe, especially going to a salon where you are in contact with other people. Firstly, there were temperature checks, contract tracing sheet (if needed), 6 foot distancing between clients, sanitation, and all staff and clients were wearing a mask. I really appreciate the accommodations done to protect all individuals in the salon. The parking is great and there are plenty of spaces, and the salon is super easy to find. I also like that there is a lovely staff member continuously cleaning the floor in the salon, to keep it free of hair and clean for everyone. For a salon in Bethesda, I'm also very happy with the prices. Now to my stylist. SANDRA IS INCREDIBLE. You MUST go to her in this salon. After my previous stylist moved, it was hard to trust a stylist to change to (as I'm sure many feel the same way when you get attached to a stylist). I can say that I have officially switched. Firstly, Sandra is very kind and easy to talk to. She is very pleasant and is detail oriented making sure you are happy with what she's doing. She asks questions and makes sure that you are getting EXACTLY what you want. Also, she gives recommendations on what to do with your hair texture, and what products are good for styling your hair. Key word: YOUR. She respects and is attentive to the different texture of people's hair, and truly is one of the best and most professional hair stylists I have met. Thank you Sandra! I absolutely will be coming back. read more

I really wanted to be able to give a good review after my visit today, but I just can't do it. Everyone was really nice in the salon, and if this were just for customer service then I would be giving a 5 star review. I called this morning to get an appointment for a color correction. I had a horrible experience at a different salon earlier this week. I got a consultation, and was excited to hear that I just needed a treatment and that the color could definitely be fixed. Unfortunately this just wasn't true. The protein treatment they gave me definitely made my hair feel better, but the color is even worse now. I just wanted to get a golden blonde and I left there even more brunette than when I came in and with the same copper roots I walked in with. I'm really not sure what I just paid $150 for. I could have gone to Sally Beauty Supply for $5 and given myself a protein treatment and been just as unhappy as I am now. read more

I have been going to Salon Central for over 15 years and it is simply the best! Gretchen has been my stylist most of that time and she is top-notch - fabulous colorist, extremely talented with the cut and a true artist with a blow dryer! When Gretchen was unavailable, I worked with Mindy and she is great too. The whole staff is welcoming and professional. I've rarely had to wait, nor had trouble getting squeezed in when my schedule changes - very accommodating. My daughter is now a loyal customer as well! read more

Despite the name, Salon Central is NOT that central if you don't have a car. I came across a deal for a cut and deep conditioning at Salon Central on Bloomspot right when I was searching for a cheap haircut. I decided to treat myself and try it out. I can't remember if the deal was $29 or $39, but the actual cost was 2 trains and a 40-minute wait in the freezing cold for a 15-minute bus ride. I have pin-straight hair that I like to keep long, so it's very low maintenance. I absolutely refuse to spend more than $30 on haircuts unless it's for a special occasion. After a session with Jay, I can see why some people fork over exorbitant amounts of money for this type of treatment. Jay started off my session with an assessment of my hair and regimen, then she handpicked the shampoo and conditioner for the hairwasher to use on me. The haircut itself was very quick, which is normal since I just asked for a trim. She took her time blow-drying and styling my very long hair. I walked out with what felt like a brand new head of hair. My extremely thin hair had never felt so thick and voluminous. Other highs: Jay never pushed any expensive salon products on me. I have never dyed my hair and I'm firmly opposed to it, so she didn't push any coloring services and products on me. Very friendly staff who has converted me. I will keep this place in mind the next time I'm in need of a good wash and cut. read more

I've been coming to Salon Central for about three years now and I love it! I always walk out feeling beautiful and looking great. Let me tell you why... 1. My stylist Sarah is wonderful. She listens to what I want and always follows through. I love that I have so much trust in her that I can just tell her to "do her thing" and know that I'm going to be happy with the result every time. 2. The stylist are continuously refining their skills through trainings at the salon. 3. The customer service is excellent. Weather on the phone or in person Alex, the receptionist is always friendly and helpful. And getting my hair washed by Gloria is always a treat! It just melts away the stress of the day. I can tell that the staff's goal is to ensure that the customer always has a positive and enjoyable experience when at the salon. 4. The atmosphere is welcoming and happy. Not only are the staff great with customers, but they are always professional and friendly with each other. Alex said " this staff is like my second family". This is a big deal to me because if my stylist loves her job (which I know Sarah does) then I will have a better experience. 5. The decor is stylish, fresh, and just beautiful. The salon is always clean and organized. If you are considering going up for the first time, I highly recommend it! Every one of my visits has been very positive and I think yours will too! I hope this review was helpful :-) read more

I have one word for this salon...TERRANCE! TERRANCE! TERRANCE! TERRANCE! Terrance is a hair GAWD! My hair can literally be struggle central of the year and Terrance works his magic with his dry cut and BAM hashtag blessed it is! Seriously do not hesitate to book an appointment for a dry cut with Terrance. It is worth every penny and every minute. He is a true artist. He will take the time to analyze your hair and find the best route for you and your facial features. If you care about the integrity of your hair look no further! read more

Terrible experience with Gretchen, who lectured me for being 8 minutes late and was extremely rude and told me she would only spend 12 minutes on my hair highlights. I left the appointment due to her attitude - that's a first for me ever at a hair salon. read more

My go-to spot for anything hair related. I've been coming to salon central for years. It just feels like home, rather, "a place where they know your name". Once you walk in, you're greeted, get to sit on the couch, they take your jacket, ask if you want something to drink, wash your hair and then you get your stylist. It's not just a haircut, it's an experience. Salon central has crafted the experience to perfection and I happily come back, like clockwork, every 5 weeks. Need hair supplies? Wax, shampoo, conditioner, hair products that your stylist uses on you? Guess what, you can buy them here! I personally get my hair done by Terrance. I've been coming to Terrance for over.. man.. it's got to be about 8+ years by now.. originally, I went to 'beautiful life salon'. Cheap cuts, great stylists, but a mildly awkward situation being one of the few non-asians.. haha. When Terrance left, he let me know where he was going and about the increase in price. But trust me, the $20 increase for the cut is always worth it. Quality over quantity for my hair care. Whether I'm keeping my hair long, cutting it short, dying it, etc. My full and utmost trust goes to Terrance. He's my God of hair, if this was an epic anime or kdrama, he'd be magnificent in it. I've done blonde, Auburn, red and black low lights, highlights, and even silver hair. If you have a reference picture, he'll map it out. If you're not sure what works, he'll help plan it out. I put my trust in him and it never fails. Going to salon central, I'm 100% satisfied with their service, attitude, and the experience they provide. Would absolutely recommend Salon Central. Go ahead and make that appointment today! ;) read more

Do not recommend. Poor service and really disappointed. It's going to take me months to grow out the terrible haircut I received.

After having such a wonderful experience when Gretchen cut my hair last month, I decided to go back to have her highlight my hair. Honestly, I didn't really have complaints about the person that used to do my highlights, but I wanted to try Gretchen because I liked her so much. I'm so glad I did!! Her talents are not just with the scissors -- she did a fantastic job with my color!!! The blonde highlights are bright and beautiful instead of the more brassy look (which I didn't even realize I had before)! I'm so glad I moved to Salon Central. Let's face it, getting your hair done isn't cheap, but I want to feel like I got what I paid for and with Gretchen, I definitely do! Try her -- you won't regret it. read more

I came into Salon Central a few weeks ago in desperate need of a cut/highlight. I was paired with Limor. She is extremely talented in her craft & very personable. She took the tragic mop of my thick hair that was butchered by a previous hairstylist at another salon and gave me a beautiful flowy haircut & jazzed it up with some highlights. I would highly recommend Limor & Salon Central. The prices are good for Bethesda & parking is free. read more

I've been to Salon Central twice, and yesterday - my second visit - sealed it as my new go-to salon. After bouncing around different salons in the area for years, I left happier than I ever have after my afternoon appointment with Jay. First of all, they were able to squeeze me in three hours after I called, which is my own fault for deciding last-minute I needed a haircut before a wedding this upcoming weekend. Second, Jay spent a solid 5 minutes looking at my hair and explaining what the current situation was, and the direction she thought I should go. Third, the best shampoo/head massage OF ALL TIME. And last, Jay did not push any products on me - she actually insisted I use up what I had at home first - but let me know what she thought would work best for my hair. I will definitely be stopping by the salon in the future to pick up products when my run out! Most importantly, I left with a fantastic haircut. Seriously, my oblivious male roommate noticed and complimented me as soon as I walked in the door, which hasn't happened in MANY haircuts. If that isn't the barometer for an upgrade, I don't know what is. Sugar on top: Everyone who works at the salon is insanely nice and personable. You'll leave wanting them all to be your best friend. read more

So I found out about Salon Central from a girl who used to work the front desk. She raved about the hair stylists here and I needed a change the place I was at just was not getting it done right anymore. I went to see Sara. Sara is one of the best things that has ever happened to my hair. She is a great stylist. She is the first stylist I have had that actually listens to what I want and doesn't go too above. When I first started going to her I had my hair cut one length, no layers or anything. I gave up on getting layers many years ago because hair stylists previously would always make my hair look like steps and cut it really stair-like layers. Sara mastered it. She understood my complaint and got to business. I have been going to see Sara now for almost two years. It is a pleasure every time. The new front desk girl Alex has been there for as long as I have been going there. I have to say that is really nice as well. Having low turnover in a receptionist position says a lot about the business in general. Alex is reliable and courteous to everyone that comes in and out of there. Speaking of turnover, I noticed that majority of the hair stylists have been there since I have been going there as well. It seems like everyone just flows together and gets along really great. Even the shampoo assistants have been there forever. I am really happy with the place, location, hours, and service. Can't complain. If you are looking for a change or looking to get your hair back to a stylish, up to date, look I definitely recommend Sara. read more

I'm so grateful to Meg at Salon Central for giving my 14 year old VERY CURLY haired daughter an amazing cut. I've been going to Salon Central for several years, ever since my stylist moved there from another salon.. I've not had much interaction with the other stylists, except in passing -- and once when one of the other stylists cut my son's hair because our stylist was not available -- but they all seem to know what they are doing. I know that my stylist has won competitions, and I think that some of the others have too. I agree with the earlier reviewer about the low arrogance atmosphere. I'm not sure about his/her comment about the cost exorbitant, however. It doesn't seem any higher than what I paid at a salon I used to go to where everyone had their noses in the air. My children (now in their late teens) and husband have all gone to my stylist at Salon Central several times and were all satisfied with the results, for the most part. The owner is continuously updating the salon and making improvements. I'm very happy with Salon Central and plan on going there for as long as my stylist works there which hopefully will be a long time. read more

I recently had my hair colored, highlighted and cut. The salon staff is friendly and welcoming. It was my first trip to the salon so I was not familiar with the pricing for the services. My stylist did a good job with the services performed. We did have some mis-communication on pricing , but Gail the owner ( who could not be nicer) straightened out the issue in a timely and professional manner. I should have been more pro-active on establishing the cost up front. The salon has good parking and a wide variety of styling products. read more

came in on one of their deals $100 for cut and highlights for new clients I believe and saw Tammy. She did an amazing job. I was looking for a new hairdresser and she was it. It is right by my house and their prices are comparable to the rest of the salons in the area. You definitely get your moneys worth. One day I made the mistake of going in without an appointment and trying what I found out to be their new stylist. She gave me the worst cut and color job I have ever had. She cut off three inches instead of one. Awful layers and gave me brown highlights with huge roots making my roots worse. Tall Asian lady with an awful dye job herself. I told the owner and she was very understanding. They redid the job the next day for me. I will only go see Tammy. She does an amazing job and my hair always comes out perfect, The color last a decent amount of time. She is a great listener and very personable! read more

Though I liked the stylist that gave me ok highlights (I've had much better), I had massive sticker shock over the price & I've been going to Georgetown salons for years. I was recently in the Bethesda area and made a same day appointment at this salon to get a cut and color. I was randomly paired with Limor - she was extremely knowledgable and had great suggestions for what to do with my too-long hair. I ended up with a much shorter cut, at my request, and some amazing highlights. It was dramatically better than the hair I walked in with and I was extremely pleased. If I am back in town I would definitely go back! read more

This salon is the worst salon I have ever been to. The attention is the worst and the stylist who did my hair needs to go back to cosmetology school and learn about color. How difficult can it be to meet the desired hair color? It's far from rocket science and simple mathematics. I am so disappointed that my hair was ruined here and that the stylist did not even have the courtesy to fix it. Worst place ever. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. No wonder there is not even a personal website and they have had to move from their former location read more

I decided to give this place a try after my regular hair dresser moved to California. The place is modern, clean and the staff is friendly. Mitch, the hair washer was very sweet. I notice they had a $100(cut ,color, partial highlight, blowdry) offer so of course I was going to take advantage of it . I called to make my appointment, and told the receptionist that I am a brunette wanting to go blonde. She booked my for a "full highlights appointment ,and the Owner told me that I would pay the difference for whatever I was getting done. Upon arrival, everyone was super nice, I'm at my hairdresser and explained to her exactly what I wanted and showed pictures - *To be a cooler blonde (not warm ) *Something that will grow out nicely without having to maintain too much *for it to have great flow/blending The photos I showed her had an ombre look . I explained to her that I get it if the color that I wanted was too difficult to get , just to give me something similar. Then she proceeds to say that some people's hair only lifts to a warm color ,and I said that's fine if that is the case. Before she starts the process she mentioned that I am using the "$100 deal". I said ,yes. Then she says that it's a big job and that she didn't have that much time.(which this statement repeatedly was said, even though I did book for a larger time slot). So she start working ,coloring and foiling ,and then I get my hair washed . I noticed almost immediately that this isn't what I asked for. The blond was coppery and it was only underneath the outside of my hair was still dark brown . It was just extremely awkward, and didn't make sense . There was no sense of blending. So I asked for her to try to fix it , she asked if I wanted her to fix it that day or if I could come back. Obviously I wanted it fix right then and there....it was not going to leave the salon with what I thought to be terrible hair. So she added some highlights to the outside of my hair. It looked a bit better , but the color was still coppery and I still had no blending since I had this weird horizontal stripe of brown hair in the middle . By that time I had been there 5 hours ,I just wanted to leave. I go to pay , and for some reason it ended up being $235, I was way too tired to argue. I left with a mediocre haircut and less than par color. The next day I made a color correct appointment with a different salon . I just wish that if the stylist wasn't able to do what I wanted, then tell me. I understand the color might have been hard, but at least get the technique. I am sure they do great color and cuts of other people , and I get sometimes people have hiccups . It just sucks that the "hiccup" was on me. read more

I've been following my hairdresser, Limor, around for a couple of years now and she recently moved to Salon Central. She has been cutting, treating, dying, highlighting, and maintaining hair extensions since I first started seeing her. This salon is by far my favorite salon that she has worked at because she has found a salon where the whole staff is as friendly and welcoming as she is. I have only had her do my hair within the salon, but I always leave happy with what she has done. She is one of the few options I have (excluding specialty shops) to get my extensions maintained. She educated me when I first got them on how to make them last, how to keep them looking good and how to keep my hair healthy. She also gives an amazing eyebrow wax. read more

I have been looking for a new colorist and recently tried Salon Central. I naturally have very dark brown hair that I color and highlight to create a natural looking golden blond color. I was very pleased with my experience at Salon Central. When I arrived my hair dresser was ready for my appointment and not running late, she took time to do a thorough consultation, I am really happy with my hair color and the fees for service were in line with market rates for the area. There were also other things that were nice about this salon such as free parking, the staff was very friendly and offers beverages to the clients, I did not see any employees on cell phones, there was not loud music blaring and the salon was very clean. Overall a great experience and I will definitely go to this salon again! read more

I've been to Salon Central twice now. Both times I've had my hair colored and cut by Michal. I went back to her after almost a year (this was the first I'd had my hair done since I last saw her), and she recognized me...or at least that she'd cut my hair before, which impressed me. I showed her a picture of what she had done the previous time, and told her I wanted something similar. She was able to take the same cut and update it a bit. The end result was a cut and color that I love. I have received a tremendous number of compliments on the haircut the past week. I would definitely recommend Salon Central and Michal. read more

As a loyal client at another salon for more than 5 years, I came into salon central today as a first time client for a color correction. I was so pleasantly surprised. As my daughter and I walked in, the receptionist held the door open saying to come in. Made me feel welcome when I booked on the phone, and in person she was adorable and sweet. Limor took me to her chair and we both knew my hair was in bad shape. I have platinum blonde hair. Unbeknownst to Limor, I have been extremely sick for the past months and was losing hair. I'm sure the bleach didn't help, but instead of being judgemental or unkind, Limor was just the opposite. Kind hearted, confident, and so skilled, she fixed my hair with a smile and even made it feel healthier. She treated both my daughter and I to a wonderful experience. Kelly, who washed my hair was too kind as well. This salon was a breath of fresh air and I cannot wait to return. So glad I found salon central! read more
