I parked in the municipal lot across the street and just walked over. I was welcomed by one of the co-owners. They had a basket of slippers to use while getting your hair styled which I thought was a really nice touch. I asked Nicole to give me nice big flowing curls and she did just that. I had a really nice time visiting with her while getting my hair done. I definitely recommend PRIMP for your styling needs. My regular stylist is always really busy doing big color treatments for all her clients, so it is nice to know that PRIMP is here for my styling needs when my regular stylist is already booked. This is not a review of the hair and makeup artist I had. The artist I had was great, and I think the salon should be sure to value their talent. I scheduled hair and makeup services for my wedding. FYI- I am an extremely casual and laid back bride. In fact- I wasn't even sure if I wanted to have my hair and makeup professionally done. But I am only getting married once so I thought it would be fun. Upon booking- they requested a $150 deposit. I booked a makeup trial and communicated the day id like it done (for my shower). I also made it clear in my communication that I was unsure whether or not everyone in my party wanted their hair done. I was told this would be no problem, and book it as if they wanted it done so they'd make sure they had enough people. A few weeks before my shower I tried to schedule my trial for my shower and I was told they were not available on that date. In fact it was very challenging to find availability before my wedding to get it done. It ended up being in the evening during the week that I had to squeeze it in. My biggest issues are for one- upon making my final payments I was told the $150 deposit I put down months prior didn't go towards the cost of the services. It was just to "hold the date." I was told I agreed to it in my contract (which was very vague). Let it be known I booked tons of other vendors for my wedding- all of which required deposits at the time of booking- NONE of which didn't go towards the overall cost of the service. Obviously, if I cancelled the service I wouldn't get my deposit back. But essentially this salon just asks for $150 of free money up front. My second biggest issue comes back to the part where I communicated that someone in my party might not want their hair done professionally. I communicated a few weeks before that she had ultimately decided she did not want it done. In response, I was told that because I initially signed up for it in my contract that I still had to pay for it (even though I clearly communicated that I was unsure initially). Perhaps I could've put up a bigger fight or could've lawyered up, but in the end I was getting married. I didn't wanna deal with any of this. And truly, my hair and makeup turned out great and the staff they have are great. It has nothing to do with the staff and everything to do with how they run their business. In the end for hair and make up for me and my mom it was $650.

However, I'm sitting here at 1am still without a response even though her messages were confirmed to go through. I ended up refunding the Groupon. It's a true bummer because all her Groupon and yelp reviews are stellar. Update: I did get a text back Michelle this morning to schedule services, she didn't want to respond to my texts late at night (understandable). It seemed like a one off hectic day for her, so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. She has wonderful feedback otherwise. I would come back to her for services because she is very meticulous with her work and I'd rather support small business than the big chains anyways. She was kind and did try to keep my mind off of the work. Her salon is located in Sola Salons, #14. I just walked around till I found her room, wasn't too hard.

I was surprised after having worked with her that she was available. Most of the time professionals with her work ethic, and results are booked months/years in advance. Maria transformed me from a girl next door, to a bridal dream. She listened to what I wanted. She worked with me and even liaised with the photographer who was very involved in crafting our look. Maria was able to work with me, my two brides maids, two mothers (mine and mother in-law), JR bridesmaid and two grandmothers. Maria brought with her another professional make-up artist who was very very good also and I was thrilled she took charge of the planning and had everyone done within our timeline the day of. Having not had time to do a trial for either hair or make up was a bit scary (Like I said we planned our wedding fast), but I was absolutely put at easy as soon as I meet Maria in person. I would recommend Maria to anyone who wants to look amazing on their wedding day and have someone come into their hotel/house/venue to help prep them for their day. Maria's services were professional, convenient, pleasant, and to top it off fairly priced. I was given the recommendation to contact Maria by our Officiant. I feel blessed and even more lucky to have been able to hire her for our wedding day. Beyond all that I have included Maria is absolutely sweet, pleasant and funny. I wish I lived locally so we could get an opportunity (or create one) to work together again.

To give you an idea on how crunch my time was, I flew into Buffalo Wednesday evening and drove to Niagara Falls, ON on Thursday to see the venue and to meet up with our wedding photographer for the first time. My wedding photographer gave me two of his trusted contacts and I contacted them immediately that Thursday. I wasn't able to get a hold of anyone but left my contact number. When I haven't heard from anyone Friday morning I started researching for makeup artists nearby. Luckily I found Dollface, and they had great google reviews from previous clients and it was nearby! I looked on their website and was pleasantly surprised to see VERY VERY reasonable prices listed. I hate how a lot of other hair/makeup places never list their prices and forces you to call for pricing. I base my decisions on pictures and other client's reviews, so I don't need to speak with sales people to try to convince to pick them. Planning a wedding is stressful already and I don't like having to make frivolous unnecessary calls when prices could easily be listed. I was up super early at 7am so I didn't call but left a message on their website and was planning on calling when they open. To my surprise, Barbara called me within the hour said she can squeeze me in Saturday morning before her other appointments. Jackpot! I realize that I am very very lucky to book an appointment the day before my wedding. Barbara sent me a confirmation email with detailed instructions on how to get to her salon and pricing details again. Very professional! I was able to relax and enjoy the rest of the day. Saturday morning...THE DAY! My sister and I arrived 15 minutes early and Barbara was ready to go! She was very pleasant and easy to talk to and I didn't feel uncomfortable to voice my likes or dislikes. Being from Asian decent I have tiny eyes and my one big request is that I wanted her to make my eyes big and she delivered! A lot of my Asian friends tend to go to other Asian artist for makeup because unlike Caucasian features, over applying eye shadow and eye liner can actually make the eyes look smaller. Barbara did a fantastic job balancing where the eye shadow needs to be darker and where it needs to be lightened to enhance my eyes. Not to mentioned, she if one of the few artists that I found who uses airbrush makeup! Airbrush makeup is a must have! It lasts ALL DAY LONG! My skin is weird, where in the early morning it is dry but by the afternoon and late evening my T-zone is super oily. With airbrush makeup, all I needed to do was dab away the oil and I'm good to go! Candace the hair stylist arrived an hour later and did my hair. She was very funny and easy to speak to as well. I showed her a photo of what I wanted (loose curls swooped to the side) and she got started right away. Barbara was there and gave her opinion and pointed out loose curl that needed to be pinned up. I felt very grateful that both Candace and Barbara were there to make my vision come true but they also provided their expert opinion on what would look better. I would absolutely recommend Dollface to any other procrastinating bride out there :D
