Known for it's intriguing combinations, This store offers amazing Liqueurs, spirits, fortified wines, oils and vinegars for you to fill up and take home in whatever size bottle you need. I remember being stumped for good gift idea's for my manly man friend, but after talking to the friendly sales staff I got to take home white port in a bottle that had a GLASS SHIP IN IT. (Needless to say it's so boss it still resides on the kitchen counter.) With liqueurs ranging from mango melon, pineapple, rose, limoncello, cognac and walnut, AND melon (as well as a yummy chocolate vodka.) This place definitely has you spoiled for choice. This is still a real market with more produce stalls than clothing/soap/etc or 'food court' style offerings. The layout is excellent, with most stalls located in a pyramid/triangle shape around a central area with live music. The location along the water front, next to the pool, and adjacent to the boat harbour allows for little side activities of your choosing. Without having planned this in advance, we left with multiple bags of food enough to get us through the week and then some. This may be my new favourite place for weekend shopping!

Check out his stall if you come across it, his animal portraits are outstanding. The markets overlook the marina and are bordered with water views on one side and restaurants and cafes on the other. They have fruit, artwork, novelty items, flowers and a host of other stalls. There are always plenty of people enjoying a morning out with their kids or dogs.

Obviously these guys need time to make their smallgoods,as the shop closes at 3pm most days, so don't leave it too late in the day to drop in.

However, I still have a little bit of knowledge on the subject and I know for a fact that this particular butchery is big. I can only think of one other in Brisbane that may be larger (Patton's Big Gun in Underwood). The large room is spacious but lined with fridges full of every cut of meat under the sun (or protected from it in air-conditioned comfort). I didn't see any exotic meats, it was mainly variations of pork, chicken and beef, but they came in any shape or form you could possibly want. The room at the back where they prepare and package everything is also visible from the front, which I find somewhat comforting as well as a little gross to look at.

The meat is always EXTREMELY high quality and the pricing is very fair. Its great to have a banter with a real butcher and to be able to have meat cut as you'd like it instead of taking what the supermarkets serve up (pumped full of water) on plastic trays. I tried their 56% iced chocolate drink at 156 Adelaide St., which was fantastic. Would definitely stop by for a chocolate drink any time I am back in Brisbane. Highly, highly recommend. I bought chocolates at 156 first. Everything I saw was $6 for 100 grams, but I didn't know what 100 grams of chocolate looks like (darn Imperial system) so I ended up getting a pre-packaged and wrapped pack of 4 random goods for $30. Mixed bag whether it's worth it or not. Buying the 4 packs separately would have been cheaper, but the milk chocolate-covered strawberries in the gift set weren't in stock individually at the 144 store.
