I only ever went for the children's section because Morris library is seriously lacking in that…read moredepartment. I found that it was relatively easy to maneuver throughout the library and that the selection was excellent considering the relatively small size of the library itself. My only complaint is that their overdue charges are absurd- something like 50 cents a day per book, if I recall correctly. The staff is average friendly. The Carbondale library is a-ok in my book!

I majored in forestry at SIU. I got a great education from a great staff. I loved the hands on…read moreexperience in class. The campus is beautiful. The area is really conducive to learning forestry since the Shawnee National Forest along with learning outside on the beautiful campus. I also loved the small town/rural type atmosphere despite being from the Chicago area. Amtrak provides a convenient way of getting back to the Chicago area without driving. Greyhound does have a bus stop in Carbondale but I never used Greyhound. SIU offers a wide range of classes and activities. There is a trail around Campus Lake. A lot of off campus activities are available like fishing, hiking, and camping. Carbondale does have a night life too.

The Achieve Program really helped me out at Southern Illinois University. I would not have…read moregraduated SIU without the help I got through Achieve. I got tutors, extended time on tests, books on tape, help writing, and more. The program costs more but I found money well spent.

A friend of mine graduated from SIU in 1986 with a BFA in Product Design. He lived near campus on…read moreCollege and Washington. He said the best part about SIU was that switching majors was easy and he found his passion in design and became very successful. We visited the campus in April 2026 and he hadn't been back there in 40 years! The campus was very nice and he said a lot had changed but the houses he lived in are still there. A got a SIU t-shirt from the nice bookstore in the Student Center building. Represent!
