I recently moved to Salisbury and I attempted to Participate with this organization. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community I thought i would be welcomed with open arms. instead I experienced some exclusion and discrimination. As I am a person of color I felt that it could be possible racism involved. nonetheless I definitely did not feel welcomed in the group. I noted the following;
#1. Dec. when I participated in the Christmas bulb paintings in December the ornaments that I decorated were taken and repainted. I mentioned that I felt they were fine but I wasn't acknowledged.
#2. June 1, 2022, I was invited to take part in the Salisbury Pride Flag raising event. However, I have been intentionally left out of the pictures on the website and the pictures that were posted are those that specifically excluded my presence.
#3. I was given a position as the Community Event Coordinator in the Parade, however, when flyers were created I wasn't given proper acknowledgment. While every other committee member was listed at the top of the flyer with names and titles, my name was included at the very end and without a proper title and on the same line with "... and others", after acknowledging every person who was not a committee member. When I spoke out about my feelings of unfair treatment, instead of correcting the infraction, Mark Delancey the executive Director said "it was fine."
one of the board members of the organization has made personal attacks on my character and insinuates that she feels uncomfortable with me attending the local Pride.
Additionally, I have been a recent victim of a hate crime at brew river, I also found it interesting the organization's lack of action or failure to rally their support around me is also a sign of your disregard for me. I reached out to the Executive Director to express my thoughts and offer opportunities to correct my experience and he told me he was busy with Pride events and doesn't have time. read more
