The town plaza, Heritage Park, and the Plaza Hotel, Plaza Hall, Plaza Stables, and Castro Adobe comprises the historic park. The buildings are museums with exhibits. They date back to the 1800s. Admission is $3 and they're open daily (except state holidays). $3?! What a bargain! I got here late and the buildings were closed. Awww shucks. But I was able to walk about the open plaza and view the exhibits that were displayed outdoors. Which was free to do. In particular, I walked through the Heritage Park and Gardens. I did that right before closing time. It's on the corner of 2nd and Mariposa Street. It's a small m corner lot garden with historical information boards, plants, flowers, trees, and a 1830s built settler's log cabin. I geeked out reading about the history of this little plot of land. I learned that in the very site was adobe apartments built for the mission's military families, in 1857 a Wells Fargo Express office (for mail and telegraphs) was established, then the two story Mission Hotel was built in 1908. The log cabin was moved here in 1938. The cabin is noted as possibly being the first log cabin in California. And the craftsmanship is impressive for the time of the early 19th century. During park museum hours, the interior of the cabin is viewable from the outside through a gated door. Inside is set up to replicate the mid 1800s.

Clinton Walker House by Frank Lloyd Wright Carmel CA Sun 11/14/21…read more® On the waterside of Scenic Drive overlooking the Bay in Carmel-by-the-Sea sits the low profile beach front stone house. Triangular foundation supports this compact house created by genius of Frank Lloyd Wright. It looks like a ship sailing into the Sea. Copper roof crowns the house as it was the original design material to be used by Wright, impossible to procure during the Korean War, so initially he had used enamel shingles, which were later replaced with copper. Designed and built in 1951 to satisfy the desires of widow Mrs Clinton Della Walker choosing to live her life private, safe, and alone. This land belonged to her since 1918 inherited from her sister. She wanted a house on the rocks, with bay views in all rooms, as durable as the rocks themselves and as transparent as the sea waves. The Mrs. Clinton Walker House is still owned by Walker's family to this day. The movie called A Summer Place was filmed at the house in 1959 in which character-owners proudly promoted Frank Loyd Wright as their architect. Mrs Walker remarried at the ripe age of 75 and lived as a married woman happily ever after for another 25 years! Sea-renity!!! Cheers! You can park nearby for free and walk over and see the exterior of the home overlooking the water. It is a pretty area. Hard to rate when you are unable to see the interior. So it is worth seeing but the experience isn't ideal since there is no interior access nor tour. Glad I saw though.

When I was frustrated with the power cord situation (I'm a novice), the on call guy came out and got it working for me. It's quiet and I haven't really seen many people. The docks are a bit challenging to navigate because they've put barriers down to prevent the sea lions from coming up on the docks and impeding people. Apparently they're more aggressive than normal this year.

There were some other local artists' works upstairs, only one that was entertaining was the works by Jo Mora. For $25, it's pretty steep, that's the same price I paid to go through 7 museum floors at SFMOMA, this place has 2 house floors. I spend my sweet time at museums, and this place took me an hour and I've read every card, looked closely at every piece of work. SFMOMA took me 2 days to go through everything, this was back when they had the indoor pond for the sounds exhibit too. So a normal person can easily finish in like 15-20 minutes. Unless you tell yourself artists are poor until they die and with $25 you can support them for a cup of Joe and a sandwich, then this place aint worthwhile.
