The security team in the lobby was always helpful and polite, and there is bike parking in the basement. For the actual course I took: I decided to attend the Intro to Programming Course (evening/part time) at Epicodus once I knew I was moving to Portland from NYC. It was a great chance to meet new people, learn some new skills, and see if I might be interested in changing careers. The Intro to Programming Course was perfect for me because it allowed me to get a taste of programming without having to commit to a full-time program and was flexible around a work schedule. The price point was also perfect for me. Our instructor Kyle was great - he was happy to be as hands-on or as laid back as each programming pair needed. I loved pair-programming - there are so many online resources that you could technically teach yourself most of the programming stuff you'd need to know... but if you're an interactive learner like me that benefits from mutual accountability.... SIGN UP FOR EPICODUS. You'll learn so much from your partners, both about programming and how to think about problem solving. This course was totally worth it!

I would have liked to have those more frequently. The constant support from career services was helpful. And I am glad that support continues post graduation.

Live projects were awesome and you get a feel for what the actual job will be like. I am not currently employed in tech, but will be using these skills to move up in my current company. Well worth it.

However, the perfect opportunity came to me with The Tech Academy, and I put everything I had into it. I really can't say enough great things about the experience. Great instruction. I learned a lot about a lot of different technologies. I had my ups and downs throughout the six months of the full-time program, but I ultimately walked away having learned and experienced more than I thought I would. I'd recommend this program to anyone who has even the slightest interest in it or passion for technology. You will have to invest a lot of time into it, but if you really want to do well, you will have all the tools, support, and instruction you need--and then some. One of the best educational experiences I've ever had.

I also received my LPN at IOT and I'm going to give the most fair review I can…read more Pros: *Your classes are all relevant to your work. No bs prerequisites like music appreciation or history. Your classes touch on these things, but it's all relevant to your job. *It's only one year. I had to give up the RN program I was in after I found out I was pregnant. Hubby and I agreed on one year more of in-class, so I took this route. *You will pass your NCLEX. The entire program has tests that are essentially NCLEX questions. For me, the NCLEX was ridiculously easy after this program. *There are people there who want you to pass, and will help you do so any way they can. There are good teachers and there are bad teachers. But you can believe if nothing else that their accreditation is determined by their pass rate. They want you to pass. * They work with you. My son had to have surgery during my second term and I missed two weeks of school. They worked with me to make up my clinical hours and get my homework turned in, etc. Not every "traditional" nursing school would do that. * Bad grades are not the end of the world. Some nursing schools kick you out if you biff a test. I'm awful at school, but good at hands-on application. Now for the cons. *Cost. It costs the average LPN 12,000 dollars to become an LPN, bs classes and all. It costs 30,000 at IOT. The debt-to-income ratio is ridiculous. And I am now paying for my BSN out of pocket because my debt is too high for further assistance with school. *Treatment. There are good teachers and other employees. But there are also bad ones. Once you're stuck in a contract, they can treat you any way they want. They can be rude, condescending and downright disrespectful. And some of them are. One girl had a private email forwarded to the entire class. I asked for a new clinical site after I realized I had gotten NO real practical experience during my three terms of clinicals and was refused because "you'll get it on the job." Sadly, I was so clueless, I lost my first job because nursing homes are not exactly kind to the learning curve. By the same standard, I can't believe that some of their students are allowed to talk to the teachers and to each other the way they do. The blatant disrespect sickened me. I can only assume that no one was kicked out because it would mess with their numbers as a for-profit school. * For 30 thousand dollars, you'd think you get a bit more updated equipment to practice on. The instructors did their best with what they have, but you can only do so much when you can't keep the practice dummy's genitals in place for foley insertion and your IV pump is 20-30 years old. * Nothing transfers. This means credits. It's one of the devils of trade school. Your credits mean nothing anywhere else. So if you want to get your BSN or RN, you're still going to have to do those bs classes, or spend another 60 grand on another trade school because I have yet to find an LPN-to-RN trade school in Oregon. So there you go. That's the most honest review I can give. There are pros and cons, like every other school and, like every other school, you need to do your research ahead of time and make certain you know what you're getting into. If you want to get your LPN fast and don't have the option of traditional school like I didn't, it's a great option. Just realize that you're going to have to be assertive for certain aspects of your education, and be prepared for the likelihood that some of your classmates will entirely forget that they are grown adults.

They are also willing to work with you regarding job/scheduling issues to make the program work for you. The biggest issue was communication. Getting answers to simple questions often took days or weeks, if I received a response at all. Students were constantly left waiting for information that directly affected their education, schedules, and personal lives. The tutoring services were another major disappointment. I had more tutoring sessions canceled than completed. In my experience, appointments with Zeke Garcia and Lauren Hawana were frequently canceled with little notice, sometimes at the scheduled start time after I had already arranged my day around them. Tutoring was promoted as a resource for student success, but it was unreliable and often unavailable when needed most. What frustrated me most was the constant gap between what was promised and what was actually provided. We were told there would be tutoring, resources, guidance, career assistance, and support throughout the program. Time and time again, those promises were not fulfilled. The schedule changes created serious consequences for me personally. We were told that schedules would remain set for each term, which lasts approximately 3.5 months. Instead, schedules were repeatedly changed, making it nearly impossible to maintain stable employment while attending school. The constant changes ultimately caused conflicts with my job, and I lost my employment as a result. Losing my job also meant losing my health insurance and financial stability during an already demanding nursing program. I understand that occasional changes happen, but the lack of consistency, communication, and support had real-world consequences for students. Rather than helping students succeed, I often felt like I was being forced to navigate unnecessary obstacles on my own. I completed the program despite these challenges, but I would strongly encourage prospective students to carefully research this school and get any promises regarding schedules, tutoring, student support, resources, and career assistance in writing before enrolling.
