Here is how this all went down: It's the day before Thanksgiving. Kelly G. is packing up the car so that we can take off to my family's house in Maine. Outside, next door at the Y-Not convenience a police woman is getting her paper. She walks outside, smells the burning plastic smell, looks around and sees smoke coming out of our chimney, then calls 911. The chimney was busted and the smoke was drafting out of it instead of into the house so Kelly G and my best friend have no idea what is going on. The fire department comes running up the stairs as Kelly is taking stuff down to the car and is like, "Where's the fire?!?!" To which Kelly replies, "I don't know, where IS the fire?" They wind up chopping a big hole in the roof to get to the fire and hose the thing down. Meanwhile I get back to my desk from lunch and give her a call to let her know I'll be getting out at 3:00 and she tells me the roof is on fire. I repeat her, and my coworker starts singing the roof is on fire song as I dash out the door to get home. When I get to our house, the street is blocked off, there are 3 fire trucks around the house, and I'm directed to the Fire Chief. He lets me know that the house is not livable and we'll have to get all our valuables out that day. This is the reason they get 5 stars: He asks if I have the land lord's number and tells me I need to call him. I'm like, "Really? There is a hole in our roof, our stuff all buried in rubble, I'm homeless, and I'm the one who has to call my land lord and tell him the house burned down?... Can you do it?" The fire chief let me know that it wasn't exactly standard procedure, but that he'd be willing to make an exception. He called and explained everything to my landlord who lives in Florida. That was above and beyond the call of duty. Bravo Somerville FD.

I was on constant communication over the phone with this family member up until the last hours of his death. He was weak and unable to move and answered the phone by voice. I was constantly getting sick (dizzyness, weakness, and coughing,)from something reoccurring with a putrid smell in the apartment and a person in the hall heckling a fake cough at different times in the front hallway. When I left the apartment at times, the smell went away. I was unable to be there to save him but went through the same suffering myself since I was there shortly before I went to the hospital while he stayed behind for the same illness. The BPD was called a number of times by me from the hospital to have it investigated and to check on him while he was alive, and the BPD did nothing and didn't even call me back for an update. I was only alerted by the hospital staff about his death, and it wasn't sourced from the BPD as told by the hospital staff. Shame on you, BPD! The hospital tests revealed in me were inflammation and lung damage with hypoxia when blood clots happen. My family member got an optopsy, and there was no trace of covid19 in his system, but it was reported as a cardiovascular failure. I bet this illness caused blood clots and caused a cardiovascular issue in the lungs, and he could not breathe and died. His lungs and sinuses were never examined. He was cremated only days later.

The Firefighters had one of their Fire Trucks for the number of area Residents to see first hand the fully equipped Fire Engine #3. They were allowed to climb on board the drivers seat, inspect all the open compartments used for firefights! Even many could wear the complete uniform that could weigh up to 80 pounds! This can show how our firefighters have to deal with heavy equipment and firefighting apparatus's to fight fires in the City of Quincy. I'm sure if need be they would assist our cities neighbors that border Quincy! These Firemen who came to be with our residents and talk and demonstrate what our First Responders truly put their lives on the line to protect us all! Many of the Firefighters made this day a learning experience for us all! The respect of these Firefighters deserves our heartfelt gratitude and we Thank Each One who attended today! I was very impressed of the brotherhood bond these firefighters had for eachother! The parents of children were so happy to see how the Firefighters related them! I learned and have a bigger respect from today's demonstration! Councilor Richard Ash along with Ward 2 Civic Association has my support and my admiration for constantly bringing residents together like events like this to educate and entertain us all! To all the Firefighters here at this location I Thank you for your Service!
