Just picked up my weekly grocery shop here. Got served by a nice friendly Bristolian women - this place feels like a proper local grocers, which I prefer to soulless Somerfield next door.
I haven't been out with a switchboard and done meticulous price comparisons for this place and the the nearby supermarkets and other green grocers. However, occasional inspection of the change in my pocket tells me that this place isn't a rip off but isn't too much cheaper than the Somerfield nearby. Any more than a quid for an avocado seems a bit pricey too me and they're £1.29 here. Not the worst crime of the century, I know, but apart from freshness price is all you can really judge a place like this on. The prices just reflect the nice location, I think, right in the heart of classy Kingsdown. If you are bargain hunting then Gloucester Road is probably the place to go to get stuff a bit cheaper.
As for the freshness side of things, that seemed pretty good. I picked up some vine tomatoes, in particular, that look just about perfect (yet to eat any of them, I'll update if it turns out they're no good). Salad Days is a friendly run of the mill grocers, not too cheap. read more
