There is guaranteed to be a line during lunch, but they have enough staff working that it goes quickly. I never wait long. They have some tables, but it's a busy food court, so I recommend takeaway. The concept is simple - you choose a meat (hunter) and a side (gatherer). There's around 5 meats to choose from and they're unreal, we're talking deconstructed shepherd's pie, slow roasted Berkshire pork, that kind of thing, each of which is almost a meal in itself and comes with garnishes and sides like sauerkraut and slaw and such. The sides are a bonus, I had crumbed haloumi salad wth mint and this thing was legit, I would have smashed this alone. Extra sides are just $4, can highly recommend going for broke here. There's a ton of good options. Win, win, win.

We started with the charcuterie board, which featured said kurabuta ham and three types of salami with some pickles, onions, and some fantastic bread. The server suggested we go with two "hunted" and two "gathered" dishes, which are all served on small plates and meant to be shared. We settled on a beautiful lamb dish with caponata and eggplant fondue and the pork belly which came with a fantastic house stuffing and a fennel and rocket salad. Sides were chosen as some of the crispest Rosemary salted chips and the house salad with radishes and tomatoes. Sadly, with all that food, we didn't have any room to try the desserts. Between the two of us our bill came in at around $100 with four drinks - very reasonable for a date night. Hopefully Hunter Gatherer sticks around for a while. It is a great change from the city and because it is a new shiny place to visit. Load of outdoor seating with the Sydney Harbour and Bridge as a sparkling backdrop whilst enjoying a game of lawn bowls, paired with cocktails or beer. which ever takes your fancy. I had the Sizzling Chicken Salad ($9) with spinach, pine nuts, asparagus, goats cheese, pumpkin and pesto. It was heavy on the chicken and spinach and I wished I'd asked for extra sauce. It was super filling. The chicken was warm and fresh off the sizzler but a bit over done. There's a long cue at lunchtime with all the city workers on lunch breaks. The line moves pretty fast as the staff are pretty efficient and friendly, I might add, despite the manic pace. On Friday's you get a bottle of water free with every salad purchased.

We called in after enjoying a lovely Vietnamese dinner in Crows Nest and were not in mood for Asian dessert. When would anybody ever be in the mood for Asian desserts. Besides, come to think of it I don't think I've ever tasted a great Asian dessert - ever. I mean the choice is clear isn't it. Asian dessert - Italian dessert - it's a no brainer. And I reckon that's why you don't see many overweight Asians - cos their desserts are so unappealing. Luckily for us just a short stroll around the corner was Sparrow. We swooped in on the last available table and watched the people coming in and lining up for their sweet fix of super yum gelato. Yum! We ordered coffee gelato in a crisp sugar cone and fig gelato in a cup. The fig gelato was so lovely and figgy - even had those teeny weeny fig seeds which added a nice crunch. And guess what!? Clam chowder has come to Crows Nest. Yes, that's right, now Sparrow features Clam Chowder for lunch. Definitely gonna sample this. Stay tuned for my clam chowder review. But it is more than just a gelateria. It is a café that, in addition to making simply delicious sandwiches and salads, also offers a brunch. Retro in feel, Sparrow is very cozy on the inside with dark chairs and wooden walls. There's also an outdoor patio where you can enjoy your food. The showcase of gelato is right in the front, so you can't miss it. You'll find some traditional flavors like chocolate and vanilla, but what you should really try is some of the more unique tastes. Among the best I tried were the pear and rhubarb (so good!) and blood orange. Even if you don't like fruit-flavored ice cream, there are some richer flavors that will surely satisfy you, like the chocolate toffee crunch. One scoop of gelato is around $4. Likewise, the items on the menu are quite affordable with everything under $15. If you find yourself on the North shore on a sunny afternoon, you should pay Sparrow a visit.
