Sala Montale is one of the airport lounges in Malpensa and it is located in the non-Schengen area of the Terminal 1. If you are coming from an intra-Schengen flight, you will have to go through passport control before accessing the lounge.
Since it's not operated by any airline flying to Milan's main international airport, the use is not dedicated to customers of a certain alliance.
I was there twice in a recent trip and the experience was good, comparing to the other outsourced lounges I have used in the past in different airports.
The facilities looked quite new and even during the busiest hours, there was enough space to accommodate all customers. Available services included: business center with computers, an isolated family room for the ones travelling with kids, showering facilities and a corner with a selection of food and beverages. Moreover, there are screens in which you can check the status of all flights, even though announcements are made in Italian and English for the customers boarding in one of the next flights.
I intensively took advantage of the food and beverage corner and I would say that there is more of quantity rather than quality. Food was just ok with assorted sandwiches and other finger food, but disappointment came with the wine section. Come on, when you are in Italy, you expect to have at least a decent wine, which doesn't mean expensive, but the ones available were way below average. Other than wines and other spirits, there is an espresso machine, juice, tea and sodas.
In terms of staff, the first time I had a minor issue with the frequent flyer number of the airline of my choice, but the lady in the reception managed to politely solve the issue and I was able to use their facilities while waiting for the next flight.
In overall, it's a convinent and clean lounge to stay while you wait for your flight, but please, do not expect to be wowed. read more
