This is my first visit at Sake Melbourne, we rocked up at 12 when they open, it was nice having the place to ourselves. The music was pumping, making it a very hip place. The food was super delicious, my fav was the miso toothfish and the ocean trout tataki. I will definitely be back!

Anniversary dinner pt 2. Gosh the flavours are just awesome. I love sashimi anything and I die when it's accompanied with awesome vinaigrettes. That's what the kingfish jalapeño sashimi had. Yum. Dish presentations are just awesome. It's pretty similar to nobu in terms of quality and even the prices are on par. So if nobu or sake are booked out for night, go to either one. Props to our waitress, very hospitable and helpful. She was able to suggest an excellent choice of sake to go with the dishes we ordered.

Located right on the Yarra River, Saké is in a perfect location, especially if it is a nice day and you are able to sit outside. We were most impressed with the sashimi moirawase. You get 21 pieces of sashimi which always includes tuna, salmon, and kingfish with the others being made up by the chef's selection. The fun thing about this dish is that it can include fish that is not on the menu for general ordering. All of the fish was very fresh and delicious. They also have a really unique drink menu that is worth reviewing.

Great location. Friendly staff and the food was good. This venue has the potential to be a pretentious persons paradise however once you actually sit down and enjoy the food, wine and atmosphere that perception is quickly dismissed.

Sashimi the stand out of the dishes in a venue with room for improvement. The first visit here was a false start as they had run out of sashimi. Unbelievable but true. The second visit I am pleased to report went much more to plan with the swift delivery of the beautifully presented sashimi platter. Delicious cuts of sashimi were dealt with swiftly albeit without any ginger which seems to be somewhat of an annoying trend in Melbourne lately. I don't know if your supposed to ask for it now but my certain preference is for it just to be included on the platter. The miso soup was luke warm and really disappointing in terms of flavour and complexity. The gyoza were fine and the yuzu tart was a good concept but the tart was more of a short bread that was hard to penetrate with a spoon. Service was perfunctory and the ambiance sadly lacking.

Wow, this is up there. We came in for a few drinks on a busy Friday summer's night not liking our chances of getting a table but after some chats with the friendly staff we ended up with a great spot and stayed for hours having a very memorable night out. The food was top, top notch. Really on their game. Everything was so fresh and delicious and the sashimi was simply amazing. Of course given the quality and the location the prices are on the high side, but well worth it for a special occasion or just a fun splurge.

Probably the best quality Japanese in Melbourne. Some innovative must try meals such as the sashimi tacos, popcorn shrimp, Patagonian tooth fish lettus cups and new style wagyu, plus all the traditional sushi & sashimi. Great list of Sake, which honours the name well, with some great cocktails. Almost new, classy and modern fit out right on the Yarra. You pay for it in the price which can result in sticker shock on the way out, but all in all a great restaurant we've been to many times. Great for theatre go-ers if you need quick service and a fast meal, just as great to hang out and drink Sake while eating great food for hours.

Slice of San Francisco here in Melbourne. A welcome respite to the disappointing Melbourne culinary establishments.

No one informed us about any policy. We paid for the bottle with 5% service charge which I do not think they deserved. We had a sudden work call at 11.30pm and grabbed the bottle to go, only for the staff to chase us to the front of the bar to inform us that they do not have a takeaway license. For christ sake, we already had bought the bottle!! Though it's alright, we respect policy. They highlighted that they needed to keep the bottle in the establishment. We asked if we could come back and finish it. They said they would keep our bottle. We rushed back to our hotel (Marriott- 200m away for the call). When we returned at 11.58pm, they had already thrown our bottle away. Unbelievable! They were quick to receive our money but equally quick to throw our experience out the window. No doubt, we returned almost at closing times but throwing our wine before closing time - if you wanna go by the book, that is still not your closing time. When we raised our grievances to the staff, she said she told us about closing time at 12 midnight. However, we emphasised that she should have let us know about the takeaway policy and license. Had we known, we would not have ordered a bottle. She looked at us blankly and simply replied "feedback received, but we do not allow anyone in after 12, so you have to leave". Quite honestly, ChatGPT / Claude / Grok could have conveyed more empathy. I am not a VIP customer nor am I a high spender. That being said, I value places with a human connection and empathy, and would regularly visit such places with joy and happiness multiple times. This place is not one of them. For this reason, I will never visit again. If you think likewise, and value authenticity and a true Aussie welcome, you would not visit this place. I hate to give negative reviews but please spend your money elsewhere.

From the moment you walk in, there's a buzz that makes the place feel alive without being overwhelming. It strikes a great balance between upscale and relaxed, making it perfect for a date night or a fun evening out. The warm lighting and eclectic design add to the charm and make you want to linger. Service was friendly, attentive, and well-paced throughout the night. The staff were knowledgeable about the menu, checked in on us at the right moments, and made the whole experience feel effortless and welcoming. Every dish we ordered was excellent -- not a single miss. We started with the Cauliflower & Mozzarella Croquettes, which were crispy on the outside and perfectly creamy inside. The Grilled King Prawns were flavorful and cooked just right, while the Kingfish Ceviche was fresh, bright, and beautifully balanced. The Stracciatella & Heirloom Tomatoes was simple yet outstanding, letting the quality of the ingredients shine. For mains, the Duck Breast was cooked perfectly and full of rich flavor, and the Lamb Backstrap was tender and well-seasoned. The Pecorino & Ricotta Ravioli was comforting and delicate, while the Seafood Linguine stood out with generous portions of seafood and a beautifully balanced sauce. The Honey Glaze Carrots were the perfect side -- sweet, savory, and executed flawlessly. Overall, State of Grace delivers on every level -- ambience, service, and food. An exceptional spot that lives up to the hype, and one we'd absolutely return to on our next visit to Melbourne.
