Chiemgauhof features a gourmet restaurant, late night beach bar and hotel…read more The restaurant: Especially outside in the Biergarten, the atmosphere is awesome. Underneath big trees you are invited to enjoy a panoramic view on lake Chiemsee with the alpine foothills in the background. While enjoying the fantastic view, you may want to have a look at the menu. It's quite big, so I'm sure you'll find something that fits your taste. They serve mainly bavarian food and - most importantly - fish that comes directly out of lake Chiemsee! The food I've had over the course of my many visits was always great. One important thing though: It's pricey. Actually, it's quite expensive. Maybe a little too expensive, even considering the great quality. It's nice to go there, but I would only recommend for a special occasion. You could leave quite some cash there if you spend a long evening. I will give a special recommendation to the blueberry pancakes with vanilla ice cream. They are Chiemgauhof's signature dessert dish and absolutely phenomenal. The bar: The "sundownder" Bar is an outside beach bar with many couches and some fire places. Again, the atmosphere is awesome when you're going there on a lush summer evening, sit by the fire as you watch it get dark on the lake. It's remarkable. The prices of beverages (alcoholic & non-alcoholic) still aren't exactly cheap, but definitely more reasonable than in the restaurant. Besides typical bar-beverages, they occasionally serve new, small brands of special kinds which are almost always worth a try. Because I live nearby, I haven't had the opportunity to spend some nights in a room of theirs. What I'm being told repeatedly, though, is that the rooms are quite expensive and service is actually not that great... But again, that's just what I'm told. I'll leave the hotel part to somebody who has actually stayed with them.

Only complaint is the service was kind of rude, at least for me I felt like that way. That was not only for this restaurant but almost all restaurants were about the same. Germany people were busy doing their own jobs and don't want to waste time on you non-Germany speakers.

I was planning a trip to Chiemsee, and decided which dock to launch from on the basis of where I'd like to have dinner afterwards. Wieninger Keller looked amazing on Yelp, and thus I chose Prien for my departure spot. I came to the Keller around a quarter to 6 in the evening, and asked the waiter at the top of the stairs if the outside garden would be serviced for dinner, as it was a lovely fall day. Now - I'm a native German speaker, and was sure I understood him correctly when he said "absolutely, have a seat wherever you'd like and we'll take care of you." Somehow, it didn't work out that way... My first beer order was taken, and when the waitress came around for my food order, it was just getting to 6PM, so that meant the Wieninger Keller was starting to serve Schweinehaxe. I absolutely *love* the dish, and asked for a soup starter and the hax'n as a main course. The waitress looked at me askance and said that it was a lot of food, to which I asked if the soup was a small bowl, and she agreed, but said that it was going to be a lot of food. I decided to strike the soup and went with just the hax'n, which was a fortunate decision. The portion size is absolutely huge, cooked perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. There was, of course, a knödel alongside, and a veritable mountain of sauerkraut. The picture I attached just does not do the fantastic food justice. So - why 3 stars? Because at the time my food arrived, I asked the waitress for another beer and another water. I see another table get their food served, and then don't see any wait staff. After half an hour, I see another couple sit down outside, and watch and wait for any staff to appear. Finally, they go downstairs out of frustration. Only then does the waitress finally come upstairs with my beer, 45 minutes after having served me, with the statement "Yeah - we got a bit busy downstairs." I tell her that I need the bill, and she throws me attitude about whether or not I still wanted the beer, which I remind her I'd wanted 45 minutes ago, but that I now needed to go. I chose not to make a big deal out of it, but the attitude of the staff left a lot to be desired. Long story short - Wieninger Keller has absolutely exceptional food. What they don't have is friendly or even interested staff. If you're going to come here, sit downstairs where you can at least have a passing chance to grabbing someone if you need something.
