This Sainsbury's Local store is in a good location in Manchester city centre, it is located on Cross Street, just off Market Street, and a stone's throw away from the Royal Exchange Theatre.
The store is pretty small, and there are of course larger convenience stores around the city centre including other Sainsbury's Local as well as rival chains, but the selection in this store isn't too bad if you're looking for the bare minimum of essentials from milk to bread, there's also a small yet reasonable free from the range with some cupboard gluten-free products.
The to-go food and drink section, including bottled drinks and sandwiches, is also good, I didn't notice a coffee machine though, which would be useful.
The store supports Sainsbury's Smartshop, which was added recently, this means you can scan and bag items as you're walking around the store, before paying via your mobile and leaving. I did struggle to find the "exit area", and was told there wasn't one, and to just exit out of the app, which then generated a receipt.
The staff are friendly, prices are a little pricey but no more expensive than any other Sainsbury's Local store.
3* - OK, not the best convenience store in town, but the staff are nice, the location is good, and the selection is reasonable. read more
