The manager did not bother to let me know it was open as he chatted away, and evidently let a customer in but promptly locked the door. What??? The server was a millimeter better on the human scale of personality. Also the food took quite a while to come out. Mind you I was the second, but first sit down customer. Maybe the staff should do more prepping instead of chilling over a cook of coffee. It is on the pricier side. I could have ate at my hotel for a few euros less. Drum-roasted on-site, an Americano on Ice smooth with light acidity, Cakes range contemporary to timeless with the "Original" Cheesecake creamy but a bit under sweetened while Kaffeerösterei's Linzer Torte is properly glazed with Apricot with a bit of tooth above and below Raspberry Jelly. This is where we get our coffee grounds every week. They offer whole beans from a variety of different suppliers, but their specialty is organic and fair trade, including a wide range from Kaffee Museum where the owner Stefan first started as a roaster in 2008. The shop also sells high-end coffee machines and supplies of all sorts. It's clear they are very serious about the stuff, but they don't look down their nose at you when you simply pick a small bag of beans and ask them to grind them for a commoner's french press. They always do it with a smile -- especially store manager Tahereh who will praise you for your selection or gently nudge you in the right direction if you're unsure about which of the many varieties to choose. You can have a cup of coffee in the shop as well, where there is ample seating, wifi, and a few sweets to go with your drink.

Have you seen the movie A Coffee in Berlin? It's about a 20-something slacker in Berlin who wants…read morenothing more than a piping hot cup of coffee. I won't spoil anything for you, but let's just say that the protagonist spends a whole lot of time doing absolutely nothing. My take on A Coffee in Berlin would take place in Impala Coffee here in Schöneberg, where I'd happily waste away a day doing nothing and absolutely everything. Berlin is quickly becoming home to dozens of third wave coffee places, but their brusque baristas leave a lot to be desired. The beanie-clad hipster baristas at Impala, however, are some of the friendliest service people I've met in Berlin! You'll find some of the brightest, smoothest coffee that Berlin has to offer here--without the attitude. My go-to is the large Americano, which comes out to under €3. I like how they serve their to-go coffee without plastic lids. Yes, I understand why this decision makes sense from a cost standpoint, but I like to interpret it as an environmentally conscious choice. So Berlin! No wifi. Lose yourself in a book, a good conversation, or some of the sweet treats (I recommend the banana bread) instead.

Impala has a cosy atmosphere, really good coffee and also gluten free cakes. How can you go wrong?read more
