We've had a lot of great meal experiences at Sage, but this was not one of them. When we arrived, we were not given a menu but asked how much time we had. As it was a special occasion, we said we were not in a hurry. We were then recommended the degustation and given a rough idea of what it entailed. When we agreed to it, the lobster that had been part of the list was no longer available and we were given prawns with mayonnaise instead - this despite the fact that the place was nearly empty and there was hardly a rush on. It went downhill from there. Ordinary ingredients, lots of mousse and 'crumbs', not flavoursome, or well balanced. By the 4th course, we had had enough. Even the dessert was what appeared to be a deconstructed black forest gateau with, you guessed it, crumbed chocolate cake. The service was attentive, but the courses were brought out so quickly there was no time to relax and digest. The matching wines were lovely, but a little closer to the half glass advised would have been appreciated. A very disappointing experience from what used to be a great restaurant. read more
