One star is to many! The doctor here was very professional and did a good job, but unfortunately the staff made my experience awful. They were extremely rude, more focused on rushing through scheduling than listening to me, and offered no compassion or reassurance about my problem. I even ended up in tears after being yelled at. I tried Sage in 2022. I needed a lot of dental work and due to insurance - I couldn't afford it - so I went elsewhere. Well - unfortunately the other place I went was not a good experience. That's when I went back to Sage. I got a new insurance- a DHMO - and Sage is one of the few places that accepts. I know big corporate offices sometimes have eh reputations, but I love Dr. Jacqueline Spechler and her dental assistant as well. They are extremely caring. They spend a lot of time with you and make sure you're comfortable. I was even able to take my kids ages 11 and 14 since their pediatric dentist does not accept my insurance anymore and cavities are just too pricey. So - if you're going to give Sage a try - see Dr. Spechler. She is great! Oh - and the front office staff is very friendly. Never waited more than 5 minutes to be seen. read more

The dentist was nice and everything, kept saying how perfect my teeth were... come to my surprise that I wasn't going to get my free teeth cleaning that's covered under insurance like ANY OTHER DENTAL OFFICE I've been to because they deemed I needed this "deep cleaning with irrigation" that would be $79 out of pocket (with insurance).... This is my first yelp review EVER. That should alone tell you the outrage that I'm feeling. With my dental insurance I receive 2 free cleanings and X-rays a year. After doing X-rays and the doctor checking on me (she was great and pleasant), I was told to go wait in the waiting room as the hygienist just started working on another patient... 1. extremely weird to get back out of the chair 2. why are they running an hour behind?? After a while, someone came out and told me the cost was $250 because I had inflamed gums. I don't bleed when brushing OR cleaning my teeth, no gum sensitivity, floss daily and brush at least 2-3 times a day. For the past 20 years of getting my teeth clean and in perfect condition every time, I don't understand why all of a sudden my gums are inflamed?! They said my insurance would reject the claim once they saw I had inflamed gums so I had to pay out of pocket. I called my friend who's a dentist and she said you cannot tell if you have inflamed gums from X-rays...This place is a COMPLETE SCAM!!! I have nothing but problems with trying to get someone to call you back. I called, 6/28/2024 and was told I would get a call back on Monday. That never came. I came in for a cleaning. They tried to do 18 x rays which I said was way too much especially because I emailed my x rays from 6 months ago from my dentist in a different town. They are trying to milk my insurance company. They said I need to pay $195 for a deep cleaning which I said I would like a basic cleaning. I was told I need to pay for the deep cleaning and they would not do a basic one and just escorted me out. So bad. I should have listened to the reviews..this place did not make me feel comfortable whatsoever. I came in because of tooth pain. They took X-rays and the dentist looks at them for a second and tells me I have some extensive problem in such a flippant way. She doesn't show me the X-rays. She didn't explain anything. This is exactly what happened when I went in last time and got some bullshit response from the tech stating "that's what the doctor ordered". Sage Dental is a crooked company. They're trying to defraud me on a bill that was paid in full by my insurance company. They made no attempt to contact the insurance company who tells me the bill has been paid in full and nothing is due. I've already advised Sage Dental billing that I don't owe anything on the bill but they refuse to contact the insurance company about it. This won't stand up in court, so they're wasting their time. Very poor front desk quality of care. They were very short and annoyed they had to run my insurance when I came in, since I made the appt online late the night before. The front desk employee kept sighing and lecturing me. My dental insurance is intact and easy to confirm (I did it on the kids appts today in less than 10 minutes) but they wouldn't allow me to be seen until they confirmed it. The care, once I finally got back, 50 minutes after my appt time, was rushed and unfriendly. They wouldn't even tell me what was wrong with my tooth until they confirmed my insurance. Sage Dental is unprofessional & disorganized. I went to two locations of Sage Dental, Delray Beach first, & Boynton Beach, FL. I walked out of both appointments. For my 1st appointment, made weeks in advance. Sage emailed me tons of paperwork to fill out way ahead of time. When I checked in, I was told by reception that I needed a referral. I told her they'd had weeks to tell me that. She said they could call my dentist up north & get the referral while I was there. I asked her how long that would take. They said 15 minutes added to my 40 minute wait time, full waiting room. They could have told me I needed a referral weeks before my appointment. They take my insurance & I have an Open Access, so usually I don't need a referral - & this was urgent. I walked out. I decided to try the Sage location closer to me, Boynton. When I called, I was told there was an opening for the next day & to have my dentist up north send my x-rays from a month earlier. My dentist up north sent them right away. The next day, I went to the Boynton office & was glad to see that there was only 1 person ahead of me when I arrived. After I arrived, 6 more people arrived, & they were all seen before me. ??? I finally got up after 40 minutes & said something. After I did, I was called after 1 other person. I was taken to the exam area & was uncomfortable. The area is all open with no privacy. You can see every patient & hear private conversations. A person was being worked on about 6' from me with only a short wall separating us. I could see everything that was going on. An assistant came over to me after a 15 minute wait & asked me why I was there. I told him my issue was complicated, I'd have trouble explaining it as I'm not a dentist & asked, "Didn't you get the x-rays & report yesterday that I had sent?" He said he'd check. He returned & said they had not, which turned out to be b.s. Dentists say that because they want to take more x-rays & make more $$$, a known scam. I called my dentist up north to check while I was seated there. They told me on the phone while the assistant was standing there they'd sent my x-rays & said they'd send them again stat. The assistant left me again to check. He returned (and I was now there over an hour) & said the Sage dentist wants to speak with my dentist up north. I was giving him my dentist's number when he told me to call my dentist on my personal cell phone & the Sage dentist would speak to him from my phone. This is unprofessional, & also during COVID! I thought they had to be joking, but - no! If they would think nothing of doing that, I would think they're pretty lax about other hygiene & safety there. Asdistant returned again to tell me that they'd need to do full mouth x-rays. I asked him why when it was only one molar tooth which was a problem. He said they do it for all new patients. I told him to get those from my dentist up north as they had just done a full set of x-rays & I didn't want to re-do all those x-rays again because of the unnecessary radiation. He didn't say anything & left me again. At this point, I was there for 1-1/4 hours & still had not seen a dentist. I called my dentist up north again to tell them what was going on. They told me to "get up & leave that place now." I did, & as I left, the desk staff said, "Glad you're leaving," and, "Good, go." Nice. Sage Dental seems more like a factory than a professional dental office. I saw another dentist after this horrible experience at a different office. I'll need to go out of pocket, but I don't care, as the dentist I went to following the awful experience with Sage is so much more professional in every way - & the new office I ended up going to is also truly diverse, staffed by African-American, Latina, white and Russian staffers. More on "diversity" at Sage, below. Th seems to be no diversity at these Sage locations. Everyone working there is African-American. No white or Asian staff. Not one Latino. Patients that I saw waiting besides myself included 4 white ladies, 4 Latino people and 1 African-American man. Your staff should represent your patients, & federal laws demand it. This bothers me in part because if it were the other way around, with only Caucasians &/or Asians working there, or anywhere in 2022, that would be unacceptable. Diversity MEANS diversity, not just one color or ethnicity. In this day and age to see such a lack of diversity is appalling, I don't care what etnicity is being "representef." If this were an office being staffed by all white people, I would be saying the same thing. I saw about eight staffers working there while I was at east Boynton Sage. At the Delray location their reception desk had two African -American staffers, so I have to wonder if it is the same, & an all-black staffed office at the Delray location as well. They told me i had a cavity and needed a $600 deep cleaning because my gums were too dirty. When i said i only wanted the regular cleaning(because i knew they were full of it), they refused to render me service unless i paid for the deep gum cleaning. I walked out and went to a different office who GUESSED which office it was that said i needed that, and told me they tell EVERYONE they need it. I am sitting here with such extreme pain and cannot get in to see the oral surgeon. I had oral surgery on Tuesday at Boca West, a large back molar had to be removed. Of course there is pain after the numbering wears off, I was ready for that. What I was not ready for is to have horrific pain wake me from a dead sleep on Friday. I started calling around 7:00ish (called the emergency line, was told to wait until 8:00 to call the office). So why have an emergency line? Called West Boca office, told the surgeon was off, the young woman looked for a location that might have a doctor working, (an office with a doctor working), stuck me as odd. Per her (West Boca) said Pembroke Pines had a doctor, I asked if Parkland might have someone. Supposedly someone was available in Parkland, West Boca transferred me. Parkland's receptionist transferred me to the oral surgeons assistant (supposedly), she then put me on hold to call West Boca, I guess my information was not available, so Parkland calls West Boca, don't know why she would not listen to me, came back on the line and said Pompano has someone, West Boca said there was no one there. Parkland was suppose to transfer me to Pompano (the office I usually go to), I got West Boca, imagine that, I have no confidence in Sage at this point except for Pompano, I've always had good experiences there. I explained the situation, to Pompano Beach, she was so kind and took control, they did not have a doctor however she said there had to be protocol. She spoke with the office manager (West Boca) was told my oral surgeon would call me and he did so right away. Again I explained, he too had a bit of concern so he told me he would get another Doctor to take a look! Really, and this could not have been done 2 hours and 17 minutes ago... I really do not know what to say, the Pompano Beach location has always been so good to me. I really don't like ANY dentist... but after: 1 root-canal; 2 cavity fills; 2 cleanings; 2 crown replacements; 1 emergency visit.... these guys are pretty good... EVERY appointment I have made... THEY KEPT THE TIME! I have never waited more than 5 minutes past my appointment time. That shows a real respect for the patient in what is otherwise a terrible place to have to come... blah dentists. They have a specialist who comes in and ONLY does root-canals... that is a good thing. He is super professional, fast but not sloppy, a good communicator during the process and TOTALLY understands that you are going to be in pain, and that this procedure sucks as the patient. There are several resident dentists in the location. Mine is a super-sweet older women that really takes the time to communicate and understand what is happening in my mouth. There is obviously a 'little' bit of lecturing about flossing and stuff like that, but NOT preachy like at other dentists I have been to. OK didn't want to have to do this but guess Sage Dental is forcing me to. I went a few times 6 years ago and was happy with the service and the dentist. Their process regarding payment is relatively simple. They check what you need done, confirm with insurance and let you know then and there what the out of pocket is. Reason I STOPPED going 6 years ago is because after actually getting the procedure done leaving a few weeks later I start receiving bills for close to $500 which is NOT how they operate. So 6 years later I decide to go back and yesterday I get a full set of xrays and speak to the Doc regarding what needs to be done and what's my out of pocket. With my insurance, I get 2 cleanings a year and on their paperwork they want to charge me $400 plus for a cleaning. They tell me this isn't a regular cleaning but a deep cleaning and I am then told it was 90 some odd dollars. I'm ok with that and schedule to be there at 8am this morning. They take me in on time and the hygienist is explaining what she is going to do with this deep cleaning and then brings me the same paper I received the day before and tells me the charges for the day are $400 plus at which point I take off the paper thingy they have on me and walk out. Take me a few hours to get calm and called to speak to a manager regarding why I'm told $90 something and day of cleaning it's $400 plus. Gal puts me on hold, comes back and tells me the charge is $175 because they have to numb me. I then tell the gal I just want to get a regular cleaning which is covered by insurance. Gal tells me "we can't do that" "we have to do what the doc tells us". Of course my response is "well I only want a cleaning" and her response is, "well that will be $175" at which point I knew I was speaking to the wall and hung up. The previous reviews were correct in saying Sage Dental in West Boca Raton is a TOTAL SCAM!!!! I made an appointment for a routine checkup and cleaning which is covered by my insurance. After Dentist Marcia Durkan told me I had very well maintained teeth, she also recommended a deep cleaning. I went to the hygienist's room and she gave me an estimate for a 'deep clean with scaling' at a cost of $667.99 !!!! Of course, none of it is covered by my dental insurance plan. I declined to pay $667.99 out of pocket and requested the routine cleaning as covered by my insurance. THEY TOTALLY REFUSED TO DO A ROUTINE CLEANING!!!!!! Never in my life have such a terrible dental office experience. Went into Sage Dental as a brand new patient, filled all paperwork out online which was convenient. I went in for a regular checkup, they did x rays and talked to the Dentist about getting my wisdom teeth removed. All went pretty smoothly besides the fact they were a bit slow. When I got my teeth cleaned, the products they used on my teeth all tasted so terrible. The hygienist made little effort to communicate what was being done on my teeth, she put some sort of casing over my molars which wasn't explained to me beforehand. I left with my gums very sore and my teeth didn't feel clean at all. read more

When I arrived at the office I was taken in the back and given a bunch of x-rays for my teeth even though I had explicitly stated I was there for ulcers on my tongue. Someone decided to switch me to Dr. Coronado, who was running 20 minutes late. Overheard the staff saying that he is always late on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Extremely rude and unprofessional. When the doctor finally arrived he was ready to dive in with a standard examination without asking any questions. I had to stop him and explain to him what I was there for. In the end he was of no help and told me I would need to consult with their oral surgeon, who wouldn't be available in their office for another month and a half. Total waste of time. The worse experience ever! I reviewed my dental plan with the manager prior to making my appointment - she explained my first visit and cleaning were completely covered by my plan. Following my ex-rays and exam (required) I was told by a technician that there was a cost of over $50. for the exam and that my cleaning would be over $300! Wow.....went to get my tooth pulled yesterday by dr.hersch and it was literally the smoothest an extraction could have been. He explained in detail how the procedure would go and answered any questions I had before hand. Asked what music I liked and threw that on for me so that it could ease my nervousness, and it did. Throughout the procedure he was giving the play by play and we were done in about 45 minutes which only seemed like 10 of actual work on my teeth. He gave me the post op directions and answered any other questions I had and I was good for the day. Pain was minimal if any at all. I would highly recommend Sage dental to any who need to get work done and want comfort at the same time. read more
