So we called, we were told to show up, and to call again to enter as they lock the entrance. It's the other side of downtown, across the river, so it's pretty funky. But no problem! Expect street parking as well. Upon arrival, we called and waited outside, and less than 3 minutes later we entered. Its understandable that they let customers in this way as it's not the greatest of walkable neighborhoods. They've got a really great selection of rocks, crystals, and some fossils. I'm more into fossils than I am rocks/minerals. Pricing appears to be average to upper-average, but I'm not much of an expert as well tbh. I go for what looks 'pretty' and 'cool-looking' versus what's rare and cost more. "Amateurish" is the term for myself I guess lol! We did have good interactions with (I believe her name was) Taylor, who knew her stuff. Whatever we asked for, she knew where it was. I've been to about six other rock stores around Portland, but in comparison this place would be in the middle, about 4th best out of six, regarding what they have in stock. We'll be back someday.

As it turns out, I DID know the store... in passing anyway. After Lauren got settled into her new location on Denver, I was finally able to find a reason to visit. TBH, I didn't have to try hard to find a reason! I LOVE that Woo has strict Covid rules in place. The hand sanitizer at the door is wonderful and alleviates fears of touching things in the store. Of course, masks are required, and I especially appreciate personal shopping time scheduled just for me. :) You know you've found your heart-store when... ... you hear the word "Woo" and your interest is piqued ... you describe yourself as "woo-woo" or "all things woo" ... you peek through the door and see tarot cards, stones/rocks, candles, jewelry, cards, and so many more goodies ... and if all of that sparks joy - you've found your shop!

I find the best candles here--Rachel Beyer candles are lovely and perfectly scented. The Covid protocols are in place and upheld--I'm grateful because visiting this store by appointment at this writing is wonderful. Cards, crystals, books and gifts are truly delightful and unique.

I've had to go back every year for several years and have a necklace restrung...she doesn't understand what bead sting to use and wants to lecture me about dog training.... not listening to the fact I've worked w ppl, w special needs, trained dogs/animals for over 50 years.

There were many tempting treasures here, but I stuck to quartz-- all lovely pieces. The owner is friendly and knowledgeable. The prizes are reasonable and the atmosphere is awesome. The store is really warm and welcoming--I loooooveee all the plants draped around the place. They support many local artists, which is why I love visiting small businesses. They carry some really beautiful jewelry, a nice selection of clothes, and other gifts (for yourself or someone else). The jewelry always catches my eye and I found some really nice earrings and other pieces, but what really caught my eye was this awesome bracelet. It is rather dainty and has some small gemstones in it--the one I chose has multiple stones, but they also had a garnet one that I considered as well. What's particularly cool and unique about the bracelet is the closure system. It doesn't have a traditional (or even non-traditional) clasp; instead it has a bolo closure. I know that there are bolo bracelets but I've never seen it on a piece with gemstones. Since this was my first stop of the day in this shopping trip, I decided not to go too hog wild in here though they had several things that I could have taken home with me. The parking right in front is rather sparse, but there is street parking along the various streets nearby for all the shops here.

Some of my favorite pieces were: - The peacock taxidermy - The giraffe taxidermy - The deer jawbone (she came home with me) - The black scorpion preserved in resin (she also came home with me) - The stag beetle preserved in resin (... she came home with me too) - The rat snake preserved in liquid (she will come home with me someday) - The badger skull - The scorpion earrings by Theeth - The "Crap Taxidermy" book The staff was incredible helpful, too. They were eager to tell me more about pieces, show me things in cases, & even wrap my purchases beautifully. Some of the pieces in Paxton Gate were incredibly expensive, but still, they were priced properly. The giraffe taxidermy was $7,500. That makes sense. Some of the other items, however, I couldn't believe at how low the prices were. The deer jaw bone was $14, the black scorpion was $25, & the stag beetle was $18. What a deal! I highly recommend stopping in to this shop if you have a penchant for the macabre, like me. Fun fact: I found all four animals tattooed on me (rat snake, stag beetle, honeybee, badger) in this store.

Can't ask for a better recommendation. Shopped at the Vancouver store from 1974 until we left the state in 1993, NEVER had a bad experience.
