I went back & fourth about writing a review but ultimately I think it's really important that I share my experience I had. First of all the new Safeway has tons of friendly staff and is very clean and well organized. I visited this store a couple weeks ago I came in to grab some groceries with my two younger kids and honestly, it's been tight the last couple months buying groceries for the month. I had received a coupon in the mail for $15 off and also when you sign up for the Safeway app, you automatically receive in-store deals and a five dollar off sign up incentive. which is very important because every penny counts. So upon checkout Angelina was my cashier. There were a couple issues with reader for food stamps payment but Angelina was very patient. They opened up another register so they were able to take the time they needed to help me. She called over her manager, which was a woman and I forget her name but she was also so amazing. They were all so patient so after probably 20 minutes of trying to make this transaction complete I came to the conclusion that I needed to run home and grab the physical card for form of payment. She suspended my transaction and said they will put the food aside until I cone back. As as employee at when guests say, can you hold this? I'll be back to pay usually 95% of the time the guest never comes back. So I rushed home was back in probably 15 minutes and to my surprise a nice man pulled my cart from the front room where they kept it in a Fridge ( because I had perishables ) just like they said they would the transaction was complete. and everything worked out. I just want people to understand that the intent of my review is to give Angelina the manager and all the employees a huge shout out because they didn't assume I couldn't afford my groceries. They were patient kind and determined to make sure I was taken care of and I can't express in words how much that means to me. so Thank you for going above and beyond. read more

I'm sad this is my local Safeway. I've had enough frustrating experiences that I finally decided to update my review. Let's start with the deli. They never seem to have corn dogs when I go. I'm not sure if they only make them once a day and run out or what happens. Last week I had the bright idea of ordering them through an online pickup order because the website said they were "made to order." Great, I thought, I'll finally get some. Nope. According to the employee filling my order, they aren't actually made to order. He told me someone bought the last of the corn dogs while he was waiting in line and they couldn't get any for my order. That's a bummer, but it also means the website information isn't accurate. As for the rest of the online order, there were multiple items unavailable. I understand that happens and I'm pretty easygoing about substitutions. If they don't have one flavor, I'll usually take another. No big deal. But it felt like after a few substitutions they just decided that was enough and marked the order ready instead of continuing to substitute the remaining unavailable items. I'm not really an online-order kind of person, but I was having a procedure done and needed an easy way to get groceries. Unfortunately, it didn't end up being easier. I may try the Brentwood Safeway in the future to see if this is just an Oakley issue or a Safeway issue in general. When I've gone to the Pleasanton Safeway, their deli is usually stocked and there are people available to help. read more

Let me start by saying we absolutely loved this cake. It was exactly what my daughter wanted, and we were so happy with how it turned out. After such a great experience the first time, I was excited to order another one. Unfortunately, my experience with the bakery employee yesterday was completely different. I went in to place another order for a cartoon cake -- using the same wording I used the first time I ordered successfully. The employee immediately told me they "don't have anything like that." While I was trying to pull up a photo of the previous cake to explain what I meant, she interrupted and said, "If it's not in the book, then I can't order it." The way she spoke to me felt unnecessarily rude and dismissive. I decided to say "never mind" and planned to come back another time. However, when I returned to get my cart, she continued speaking to me in the same tone and kept trying to continue the conversation even after I repeatedly said it was fine and that we didn't need to discuss it anymore. I explained that I had already ordered the exact same cake about a week earlier and simply wanted to place another order. As I walked away, she continued yelling comments after me. It's disappointing because our first experience ordering the cake was wonderful, which makes this interaction stand out even more. I truly hope this employee is not regularly working in the bakery area because no customer deserves to be spoken to that way. The cake itself was amazing, but the customer service during this visit was incredibly disappointing. read more

Nice and new. Prices are expected. Small parking lot, but next to Starbucks and Chase. Curbside/drive up parking and charging stations on the opposite side. I like the self check out. Didn't experience customer service since I found everything I needed and checked out myself. read more

Safeway - The front - Grocery Near Me - Oakley, California

We moved to Oakley in mid-2025 and were anxious to see the Safetway Store finally open. It's been so many months since then and they had their grand opening on December 10. We did go to their official ribbon-cutting ceremony but I found out that it was a success. We avoided the big crowd and came a few days after the opening. I was amazed at the fantastic job Safeway did in putting this store together. The aisles are very clean. The shelves are always full. The bakery always has fresh bread and cakes on the counter. The meat and fish section is well-maintained and fresh. I don't have to drive to Brentwood to shop at Safeway. This store is just in my backyard and very convenient for us I will have a lasting business/shopping relationship with this store from now on. read more

Very glad to have this Safeway in Oakley. It has been well stocked so far, and it is a big improvement compared to not having this option nearby. Hopefully the store stays fresh, clean, and consistent over time. Prices can be a little shocking, especially when items are not on sale, but that seems pretty typical for Safeway. Overall, it is convenient, useful, and a welcome addition to the area. read more

Safeway has finally arrived in Oakley! A holiday themed Grand Opening experience set the tone for the grocery chain's new addition. Complete with a festive and cheerful community welcome with Freedom High School's cheer squad and a ribbon cutting! The big countdown was much awaited as shoppers lined up with their baskets, stretching around the building, and parking lots flooded full in the Laurel Ballfields plaza. The store was decorated with balloons and the shelves stocked and organized with tons of staff and security. Special offerings were available for opening and goodies inside, limited while supplies lasted. 'Twas a very merry Grand Opening experience and I can't wait to shop here more at my local Safeway! read more

Had the honor of being at the grand opening of the much anticipated Safeway in my city! I must say it is absolutely the most beautiful Safeway I've ever seen! Located in the Shops at Laurel Fields it is complete with a drive through pharmacy, an area for online shopping pickup, charging stations, and gas station with a full size convenient store! The opening of the plaza created 100 new jobs which is wonderful for our growing community. We were treated with virgin mimosas, a warm, red carpet welcome from employees and company head staff. There was an area for pictures, live dj, delicious food to try and giveaways! It was an overall wonderful experience and the ambiance was just a little bit magical when you stepped inside. Store is great. The Chinese food there, disgusting. Went in in the evening and was served orange chicken that must have been sitting there since the morning. When you bit into it, all that was there was the shell of the coating and shrinked and dried up meat inside. Also, the pricing on the TV screen doesnt match what they charge. They show 4 sesame balls for $1.99, but on the sticker it showed $2.49. I questioned it and they told me that is the price. I should have called the manager, but then again, the mangement should manage better. read more

This review of for the pharmacy specifically. I have filled prescriptions 4 different times since the have opened. Whether I go through the automated system or actually talk to the pharmacist, my prescriptions seem to never get filled. Secondly, everytime I call, I get stuck on hold and even treated rudely by the person answering the phone, Minimumly, couldn't the folks in a customer service position have basic soft skills? This place really needs help in the pharmacy department, i get it if you forget to fill a prescription once but everytime is a ritual. This is a compete failure in my experience read more

The pharmacy is incompetent! My elderly mother had not received her medication (still) in over a week, I've called more than five times and nothing!!!! I have 2 voicemails from this place that meds are being delivered. Not to mention they have charged me 4 times and credited me twice. I have submitted a complaint with the California Board of Pharmacy. read more

I was happy with my experience at this new Safeway. The store itself feels smaller than others but it had everything that I wanted. Great deals when I went and was able to use the app in store to clip my coupons for when I checked out. They even had mailed people a $10 off when you spend $50 or more. The guy working the self checkout area was super helpful with getting me the $10 off coupon entered into the system. I will be going back more since they are closer to me. Looks like they have EV charging stations, Starbucks and a Chipotle in the same shopping center. read more

Went three times to get an Rx filled...given incorrect information on how to get transferred over... then the next two times waited 15 minutes to be helped...I was never acknowledged... ended up leaving both times. Great store this is related to a specific incident. Came in today around 6:30 in the morning. There were little to no customers in the store at this time. I was parked in front of the store right in front of the smoker section. After coming out the store after being inside for less than 5 minutes, i saw a burn mark on my car with a smoking cigarette right in front of it. It was very deliberate and purposely put it out on my car. Again there were only employees at the store. I went inside to ask for help all staff were friendly and wanted to help except for who I'm guessing was the manager. He came out with a smug smirk on his face and told me that i needed to call the police and have a warrant in order for them to check if it was an employee or not. He was extremely rude and smug and if i had to guess who it was i would guess it was him due to his attitude. read more

Investing a few hundred or even a couple of thousand dollars in food and beverages is insignificant compared to the long-term profit you can earn from loyal customers over the decades to come. This community is predominantly Asian and Mexican, with Black and White residents being the minority. Unfortunately, the facial expressions and attitudes displayed toward people of color during the event were disturbing and unprofessional. One of the servers pouring sparkling drinks commented to me, "Ohhh, you like it, aisle seven" in a tone that felt dismissive and unnecessary. I had asked for a second half-cup only because a piece of salty ham had gotten stuck in my throat. Her tone left a lasting negative impression, one that still lingers in my mind. It is the Christmas season. Is it really worth ruining the experience for customers over half a cup of a drink? This is America, a nation built almost entirely by immigrants since the New Frontier. There are no "true" Americans unless one visits a Native American reservation. Moreover, this is a food business, where an estimated 20% to 30% of products end up spoiled, unsold, or discarded. Courtesy and respect cost nothing. Going forward, please treat every customer with dignity and respect. Please remember that competitors like WinCo and Food Outlet are close by, and customers will choose where they feel valued. read more

We have been a few times and it is a beautiful store. Always stocked and organized. This last Tuesday we went around 6 pm and the man that checked us out was very rude. Did not greet us at all. I asked 'hey how's your day going' and he completely ignored me and didn't even look up or say one word the whole time checking us out. Then when we left I said 'alright have a good one'. And no response or acknowledgement. It was weird and very off putting. We were in check lane 3 I think his name was Isaiah. Usually a great experience but it was just awkward. We saw the uncomfortable interaction with the customer before us and a rude response he gave too. Overall great store. But they need to train this kid better. He looked miserable. read more

Rude. Unprofessional. Approached the guest services counter to make a simple return. Tall African American lady with long hair was standing in front of the counter said hi nicely, then I said I have a return her tone changed immediately. She asked what I was returning without moving to the back of the counter in a very confrontational way. I just stood there confused and said what it was, she then was silent briefly then asked why again in a rude tone. Then she finally decides to move to the back of the counter to allow me to empty the contents of my bag on the counter. Asks for the receipt, I say I don't have it and was previously told I could have the transaction looked up with my phone number the way I have at several other Safeways before, she immediately says no and doesn't even let me finish talking. Then asks what appears to be her manager some older Caucasian lady next to her to confirm, she says yeah they need a receipt or it can only go back on a Safeway card for store credit. Before I can even say that's fine the tall lady proceeds to process the return without even asking me if I'm okay with that. Then I ask if every Safeway has a different policy because I've done returns in the past this way without this issue elsewhere, the manager lady says yeah they need a receipt at this location in a very rude tone. I would have thought being new to the city of Oakley these people would be a bit more patient and respectful. Pretty sad when people are miserable with their lives and jobs and can't handle a simple task like processing a return without being rude. Mind you it was a calm slow weekday evening. This store is right next to my home and I was excited it was opening, but after this experience and reading the rest of the bad reviews I will not be returning. read more

Stay away from pharmacy. Its just as bad as Walgreen Empire/lone tree. If not worse. Straight made eye contact with me and made me wait 15 mins to drop off PAPER Script!!!
