Staff is very rude! I tried to bring my basket up to where the other baskets were. Note this was is a very illogical location my the self check out. I was unable to do so and kept walking. Then the guy sweeping rudely told me to put my basket in the location I couldn't get to. The other staff just looked at me without helping me get my basket to the blocked off spot. The parking is also horrible here. I will be avoiding this Safeway at all costs from now on. read more

We've been visiting this location for years and we drive there but it's also in walking distance for us so yay! The entryways are flat and accessible by anyone. The staff here doesn't change too often and most all are friendly throughout the store. We get to know people a bit at this location and chat it up as we check out or get a "hey there!" in as we're shopping. You'll find plentiful parking above ground, below ground, and even on the streets. Parking under the store is lit well and my full size f250 longbed pickup has no problems with height nor turning radii underground. Parking in front of the store is often busy and full but we've never had an issue parking under the store. Sadly the sushi is always slim pickin's even during evenings. You might find 10 sushi trays here while I've seen 50 or more options at other Santa Clara Safeway locations and they look far better too. The deli at this location is good but you might have to track somebody down to get served. If you're heading to the beach and get stuck on 17 before Lark Ave, this is an easy stop for supplies while making progress at the same time. If the sushi counter was poppin' like other Safeways this location would be 5 stars. read more

Service absolutely terrible. Was met with hostility at the register. After a long day of work, decided to walk down to the local market to pick up some food only to be denied service since my girlfriend who went with me wasn't carrying and ID. My girlfriend is 35 while I am 34 for reference, with valid state id who would be making the transaction. When asked to be shown this blatant lie of a policy they told me they wouldn't. Figures. Overall this Safeway appears pretty solid and has always been well stocked when we are shopping. However, the overpriced items is insane. There are select few products that are worth purchasing from Safeway- but when it comes to doing your full grocery shopping for the next couple of weeks, it is worth bouncing around to various stores (Whole Foods, Trader Joe's) to save dozens of dollars. It is a nice store that is conveniently located and workers were helpful. read more

9/9 around 10:45 pm. The area near the double doors to stocking smelled like a cologne truck spilled. Either a night stocking staff had way too much on or was it a product leak? In any case it was migraine and asthma attack inducing. Manager please ensure the store is safe for staff and shoppers. The indoor air quality was low / experiencing high VOCs. Hi. You really need to do something about the cashier named Asher. He is excruciatingly unpleasant and always gives dirty looks to the customers. He tosses groceries on the belt as if with disdain. And he glares at us with such contempt in his eyes. Makes me not want to shop there and it's honestly downright scary. Someone needs to supervise Asher and tell him that his behavior is unacceptable. Honestly, I've ever seen anyone working with the public who looks so unhappy with his life, and although it's easy to imagine why, he shouldn't be in the front of the store, although I would worry about what he would do to the food in the back of the store. You all people need to check him out one day while you are there because I know you'll tell me I'm right. read more

This review is about the bakery. I have successfully ordered cakes and cupcakes from them in the past without a problem, but today was different. I ordered some cupcakes through them online about a week ago, specifically because there was a picture of them on their website and I figured there would be no confusion about what they should look like. 2 days beforehand, I called to increase my order size and change the pickup time. The morning of the pickup, they called me and said they didn't know what they were supposed to look like and did not have the updated order information. Over the phone I gave brief description and again explained the updated order time and quantity, and they seemed to be satisfied with that. I showed up a couple hours later at at the correct pickup time and they said they had not even started on them and still did not know what they were supposed to look like. They kept saying "we called you" as if this excused it. I know they called, I talked to them. The worst part was that the woman I was speaking to was smirking and suppressing laughter. I was very surprised by this because I was being as polite as possible since I still needed those cupcakes. Unfortunately they were not ready in time for the party so I am out the money I paid them. I used to recommend the Safeway bakery for price and ease of communication, however, I will strongly recommend going with a professional bakery from now on. There is nothing worse than being laughed at and having to find a last minute replacement the day of your kids party. If a store manager is interested, this happened around 11:15 am on June 20th. read more

This is our little Downtown Los Gatos grocery store. Since it is on the small side, their selection is sometimes on the lean side, but it is convenient for me and most of the time I find what I'm looking for. They have a friendly Starbucks inside, full service deli, bakery, butcher counter and a florist. The parking under the store is convenient and really appreciated ob a rainy day. read more

This is a very nice Safeway - staff for the most part is very friendly and outgoing, most everything I need is here. Excellent bakery dept, and nice produce. There are some specialty items I would like to see (would make it 5star) but those items are unique to me so all good. It makes me laugh that there a 1star ratings cuz they were out of something one time - seriously? - supply chain issue is no joke. Or the 1star about not being able to bring their dog into the star - umm... unless it's a service dog it's illegal. Grocery biz is tough so thanks for what you all do! read more

This is one of the cleanest Safeways that I have been to in a while, the carts are sanitized and the shelves are always well stocked. This location offers plenty of parking on the ground level and even has an underground structure to accommodate additional customers. It may be because this location is in a boujie area, but their employees are very friendly and super helpful. I'm used to Safeway employees just pointing to the general location of items, but here they actually escort you to the actual spots. Customers are kinda rude, but money will do that to you. read more

With or without a receipt if things aren't up to par then you are just out of luck. Flowers died in less than 2 days after paying almost $30 for them. My wife and I work full time and it took a few days (not weeks) to return the items. They advised its under their discretion to give a refund. Although the policy says store credit...I think I know what the discretion was. My wife was the wrong shade of color. Yeah thats still a thing beleive it or not. They are saying they will lose money. As much money as we spend every week they are going to lose more than just money for the flowers and sushi. My wife felt racially profiled as the cashier Katie was yelling and using aggressive hand gestures at her. But from what it looks like, this will go to a blind eye so we will continue spreading the work until we get a response and are satisfied with it. read more

I've never been to a grocery store with so much expired food ON the shelves. Yesterday there was bread, chicken and lettuce all on the shelf past the sell by date.... I only shop here out of convenience but the shelves are constantly under stocked and filled with items past the sell by date. read more

1 out of 5 times I go to this Safeway, they're out of stock on something I need. And these aren't very hard items to come by, these are the absolute necessities of any grocery store. I went in to get some ingredients I needed to bake some Christmas cookies and they had no confectioners sugar. How does a grocery store not have any confectioners sugar during the holidays?! Had to drive 5 minutes to the Luinardis nearby and they had shelves of confectioners sugar there. I'm officially never coming back to this Safeway. read more

From my previous review it seems they've started to handle things better. At least they're usually fully stocked and the wait time to checkout isn't AS bad as it used to be. I'm still only giving three stars because of the rude lady at self checkout. We've had to encounter her 4 times now and my poor mother had an anxiety attack afterwards because of her. 1/5 stars. Super disappointed with the deli service. I ordered a platter of pretzel sandwiches for pick up the next day for a party. When it came time for pick up they handed me a finger sandwich tray . The employees openly admitted that they gave my order to another customer. They then charged me still for the more expensive pretzel sandwich platter. I had to come back inside for the difference in cost back. I asked for a discount and they couldn't offer any more discounts besides giving me 2 other pretzel sandwiches from their refrigerated lunch section, even though they gave my order to someone else and could not remake it in time for my party. Very disappointed that management could not offer me more of a discount when I was essentially forced to take the platter I did not want and did not order. Beware of the Safeway in Los Gatos at 470 N. Santa Cruz Ave. They are lax in their anti-virus protection procedures. Many customers just walk in without masks or gloves. The cart handlers do not clean the carts after customers use them. The store does require you not to bring you own bags in, asking you to leave them at the door or return them to your car. Be sure not to leave them at the door as ours were stolen when we did that. They also do not enforce or offer recommendations to customers who are checking out and most checkout lines do not adhere to the 6ft distancing. It is not entirely on Safeway as customers should be observing all the proper distancing and self-protection guidelines on their own initiative. Be alert and keep your distances if you visit this store. read more

Horrible!!! DO NOT BUY SALMON FROM HERE EVER!!! I bought salmon from the meat section worth $40 the moment I opened it it smelled sour & like ammonia the color was pale pink with some gray spots on it. I put it in the oven to make dinner it started foaming with a horrible foul smell I had to throw it away immediately. What a waste of $40 safeway your standards have gone down drastically what a shame!!! I'd rather switch to Whole Foods which is do much cleaner & better. This review is about the Safeway in Los Gatos on N Santa Cruz Ave. I had a horrible experience today with one of the cashiers. So I went to purchase a tin foil pan to bring baked rigatoni to my son's football game. I needed one large pan, and after looking around a while I found a large pan with a sign clearly posted underneath it that said $4.49. When I brought it up to the register (along with the other $216 worth of groceries I bought) the cashier could not ring it up because it didn't have a barcode. She sent the bagger back to check the price for me. She came back with a 5-pack costing $19.99. I told them I only needed the one and didn't pick a 5-pack, I wanted the one that cost $4.49 where I found this item. She said that someone must have opened the 5 pack. I followed the bagger back to the area and showed her the $4.49 sign and told her I wanted whatever item that was. She said they must no longer carry that item. I showed the picture to the cashier, who at that point had the option to call a manager over to honor that price since that is where it was kept and that was the label. Mind you there was no line, or anyone behind me that would have been inconvenienced. Or they simply could have said "I'm sorry ma'am I can't sell it without a barcode" or something to that effect. Instead, the cashier told me "see that spot on the shelf is empty". I informed her that was because the bagger just moved the item over to the $19.99 area and I witnessed it. She then accused me of lying saying "NO she didn't!!!" when she wasn't even in the isle with us, extremely rude. This woman had white shoulder length hair and spoke with perhaps a European accent. I then choose another similar item for $6.99 because at that point I was just finished with being insulted and yelled at and wanted to finish my transaction and leave. I told her they might want to take the $4.49 sign down then, since they don't sell that product anymore. Instead of saying, "thank you I'll let someone know"...she yelled at me and told me "we don't control the whole store!!!" This cashier really needs training on how to speak to customers. Needless to say, I'll be shopping at Lunardi's from now on. read more

Overall the store is fine, except for the deli counter. It is consistently rude service. I often get ignored while the workers are arranging spoons in a potato salad, or chatting with other workers. And they know I'm standing there. Eventually someone walks up and the greeting is either "you want something?" or "yeah?". Never "hello" or "how can I help you". If I ask for tuna salad, I get a "we don't have it". If I ask the person to check in the back, they refuse. Another worker may check in the back, then bring out a large tub, because that's where it's stored. So I try to shop at a different Safeway when I can. read more

It took almost 2 years for this remodel with underground parking to be finished, but what a amazing store... I love love the underground parking so your car stays out of the sun or if it's raining it's so convenient. They have a Starbucks inside and a Redbox too, makes it's all so convenient one stop shopping! I love the staff; they always recognize me from my 3 big red patent leather shopping bags. I have returned a bad watermelon from time to time, back In the old days you could get a sample of your melon... before you buy, it's always a gamble with melons. Never enough checkers. They only have one guy in the meat department. Joseph is super helpful and friendly, but sometimes there's no one back there. Apparently they don't have enough people back there to help him. He's busy trying to manage other needs in the meat department and the reason there's no one there to get our seafood or meat. There are quite a few checkers who are quite fast and friendly, who we REALLY appreciate. One being Ephesia, Jacob, Angie, Norma, George, the 2 Jordan's, Rena, Paramjit, Ryan, and Eddie!
