I haven't been to this Safeway before the renovations, but as expected, it's a beautiful new store. This place is two-story, so the parking lot and floral department are downstairs, and the rest is upstairs. The place is nice and spacious and are more natural-focused than others due to this. Their natural health section and organic foods inventory is larger than other Safeways, and they even carry the large Bio K packs near the meat section (it requires refrigeration, so that's probably why it's separated from the health section). Their bakery even has macarons in addition to their normal cupcakes and cakes, which I thought was interesting. Staff are friendly, but I haven't had to interact with any of them too much to give more than that. Cool bit: They have a separate escalator for your cart that goes down right beside you to the ground floor.

    Great fruit and vegetable section.

The Safeway extra has an unusual entrance that leads you to a large store with all kinds of goods. They still need to work out the cart escalator going up as it seems to be perpetually broken. But they should have a functioning elevator which I haven't used yet. The pricing is higher but it is convenient if you are in the area.

It's a bit of a dinosaur, doesn't look pretty but it is well maintained. So if you need to pick up something quick, and don't mind the surroundings, stop in! Staff has always been friendly n helpful, unlike other grocery stores nearby

The store is not very clean. The takeout buffet is frequently messy, with food spilled all over the place. Staff always seem exhausted.

The prices are not so thrifty though, groceries can be expensive here. Anyways I came here today because I wanted to buy some supplements as I'm a bit of a health nut so I was in the vitamin/supplement section plus I wanted to use my gift card for something as this woman who I guess was working in the vitamin/supplement section approached me saying "Can I help you with anything or are you just looking?" I just felt awkward because her tone of voice was not friendly and when I replied "No, thank you, I'm okay, with a smile" she didn't smile back, just had a grumpy, bitter look on her face. I kind of felt more like she was suspicious I was going to steal something and I was being racially profiled rather than someone genuinely wanting to assist me. The young cashier up at the front was very pleasant and friendly when I went to pay for my item at least.

Product review ... 'shout out' - for one of my favourite ways to purchase pork for roasts and…read morechops. I call it a pork "log", the supplier calls it 'boneless pork loin rib half', and the store labels it as 'pork loin, half centre, and sirloin'. Buying pork this way affords an opportunity for the customer to cut and prepare as desired. After each purchase, I usually cut a roast and chops, and freeze in portion sizes appropriate for future meals. The yield, as I cut and prepared this larger one for freezing was: one good-sized sirloin roast, 12 loin and centre chops, and some extra sirloin. The roast was frozen in a bag by itself, and was large enough for dinner meals, and several lunch sandwiches, and brunch snacks. The chops were frozen by variety, two in each bag, perfect for dinner meals. The extra sirloin was put in its own bag and used in a tagine stew. When sold fresh, these "logs" are usually on sale at reduced prices from other times, when being sold at regular prices, and being sold frozen. For me, the only way I want them is fresh, so I can cut and freeze. Buying them frozen and not being able to refreeze after thawing and cutting is not an option. I purchase them fresh, and have caught some great prices. They are fantastic value buys at those times. Regardless of size, the "logs" provide such a wonderful variety of flavourful pork cuts for many meals. And for me, are so well-deserving of the product 'shout out'.

I'm not sure when the last time I returned something to a grocery store, however I believe approximately a year ago I had some cottage cheese that I thought had turned a bit early and certainly way before the BBdate. Back to No frills, I had half of a litre of milk that had turned early and had a pretty major hassle at No frills. First it was have you got an reciept, I said yes, hundreds of them. Then I was told I'd have to wait 10 or 14 minutes for the manager to come back and deal with this. I finally informed them that I'm in there every week, I'm leaving the bad milk and taking another, along with buying other items i need. When checking out I informed them again that I'd like to take the item and leave the bad stuff with them, more hassle, and a lesson on how long dairy should last once opened, by what appearred to be my mom!! Unbeilievable!! over a couple of bucks worth of MIlk. Great company policy there Dennis! I'm done! I'll go a little extra distance to another store. Hey they don't like returns, so I won't return.

And having some dinner plans in mind for the rest of this week, it was 'yea', when I found some very decent looking and priced green onions and Roma tomatoes. The staff is helpful and if you ask repeatedly for an item they'll often get it in. Prices are very competitive. If you are on a tight budget look in the bargain shelf at the back. I got a bag of tomatoes that were very ripe at a real discount. They are close to deserving 5 stars. Perhaps organic citrus and/or tomatoes would do it for me.

It's been a very long time since I last stepped foot in this place so maybe it's just my faulty memory, but it really did seem like they had expanded their offerings at this place. The fried foods were what really stood out for me. I don't recall this being here at all. It took a lot of restraint for me to not buy anything from here. Deep fried squid, deep fried vegetables, deep fried seaweed roll, tornado potato...etc. They all looked so tempting. I grabbed a couple boxes of Kimbap (One Burdock Kimbap and a Fried Gourd Kimbap) plus a Rice drink that was on sale for $1.99. They also had some Triangular Maki (Onigiri) for sale. No Vegetarian flavors. Tuna was the only flavor I could have eaten since I'm Pescatarian. I decided to stick with the Vegetarian Kimbaps though. Upon first glance, I thought the rice drink was made just from rice milk and that it would be dairy free. It was only when I got home that I read the ingredients label and realized that there was actually some milk in it. Not a problem for me, but for anyone who has lactose intolerance...be sure to check ingredient labels always. Anyways, this Rice drink was Sweet Potato flavored. Ever had a Sweet Potato flavored drink? I thought it sounded like a really interesting flavor, and of course...being on sale, that was extra incentive to try something new. I shared it with my daughter. I think she wasn't too impressed with it. Personally, I loved it. It really did taste like sweet potato. I found that quite impressive. This is a great place to stop for quick and tasty take out foods, and interesting drinks like the Sweet Potato Rice drink I tried. Their bakery section looked very tempting as well.

The pastry had collected moisture instead of it being flakey and crisp, which indicates pre-refrigeration. I guess my standards for a bakery are quite high. Fresh baked goods daily. The restaurant. Even though the portion size and quality needs improvement....I have to be fair and acknowledge their affordable and reasonable menu pricing. You get what you pay for. Yup. If you are looking to purchase some of the "greens" you enjoy when dining out at Asian restaurants, to try at home, I have found this supermarket to provide a fantastic selection. From recent shopping experiences, I have found their fresh produce shelves to be well-stocked with a wide variety of the veggies much-enjoyed when dining out. For me, it is especially so for the veggies I enjoy at Chinese restaurants, like bok choys, gai lan, yue choy, and such. And using the store's shopping card when purchasing can offer considerable price savings on many of these items. I appreciate seeing, and being able to purchase from such a good, and highly varied selection of these products.

Well, instead of getting kung-fu, you get weird-fu. Man, there are so many cultural misappropriations, it is not even funny. And weird goofy sayings like "Wok with confidence" or "stretch your imagination ". It is so non-asian. I can see the designer did a quick a google of what asian culture is all about and just stuck it in. It demonstrates how little respect they have for the differences and nuances of every very different asian cultures there are. Any proud Asian will find the design of the place highly offensive and culturally insensitive. We walked around looking at various food, produce and prepped food area. Didn't find anything remotely competitively priced. The future is here and so are the prices. Expensive. We were asking ourselves who is the target market? Asians? You have two successful Korean grocery stores across the street : HNS and Hi-Mart. Then there is the Chinese Supermarket TNT in Coquitlam Centre and Lougheed who has none of these issues. Their key market will likely be the indifferent and price-proof non-asians. We capped our journey with their cooked offerings. We got the 2 meat combo with rice. We went with BBQ duck and pork. Let's just say the duck was so dry and salty, I don't think I had worse duck in all of GVRD. I rather drive all the way to Richmond's HK BBQ Master as they have exact same price. One is world renown, other is hot garbage. Then I had to have the silly idea of ordering a drink at their "Harmony Cafe". My god. Although there were three people ahead of me, it took forever. I chalked it up to newbies. Literally four pair of hands went into making the London Fog I ordered. The last guy was reading the manual while making it. After he was finished he went to wash dishes and left the drink on the table. Had to hail another staff to fulfill my order which included Portuguese Egg tarts. This took over twenty minutes. It was way too long. Overall, I understand this is a new business and a grand opening but shouldn't they have operations smoothed out prior to opening their doors? One star for the Portuguese Tart and another for the polite, albeit confused, staff. I will check back in a few months after their newness is ironed out, if I ever come back.
