This Review is mainly for the Hot Food Deli.... Ordered the Chinese Shanghai Meal for 2 and gotta say it was pretty bad! Not sure who the chef is, but the Beef with Broccoli wasn't tasty at all. Tasted a bit old and sour.... Had to throw it out when we got home from the store. The Fried Rice was totally bland, lacked salt and seasoning. Eggrolls were atrocious, and the Chow Mein had no flavor whatsover! Bad Chinese, even if from an American grocery store. The only edible thing were the Sesame Chicken and so-called Korean Beef, even though it wasn't really Korean. Otherwise, no good Chinese food! Parking lot is kind of compact, lanes are small and hard to maneuver in. Bakery and Deli foods do not seem all that fresh. Pre-made Ham and Swiss Sandwich was alright... read more

They don't have hand baskets, so if you only need a few things, you have to juggle them in your hands, or push a big cart around.

This Safeway is on my way home every day. Super convenient. I have been recently frustrated with the complete absence of baskets. I walk in and, unless bring a bag or something with me, the only option is a cart. I'm usually just grabbing a few things for the night or a "basketful" for work. We are fairly new to the area after having most recently lived in Hawaii, overseas in the Middle East, and Southern California. We are certainly city people with his standards and expectations. This is a decent spot. Fairly clean. Decent selections in produce, dry goods, frozen section, bakery, prepared foods, and even alcohol. It won't knock your socks off, but neither is it deserving of many of the past negative reviews. Maybe times have changed. Maybe it's new management. Whatever it is, they seem to have turned themselves around from whatever their past weaknesses were. It's conveniently located with plenty of parking, fast lines, and a reasonable selection. The area it's in is a larger issue with for this Safeway location than anything else. There are a lot of shady characters hanging out both outside the store and inside, depending on the day. We drive to west Bremerton or Silverdale unless it's midday. The store itself has most of what you would expect from a smaller Safeway without the draw of a gas station. A lot less as far as selection goes, but again to be expected based on size. read more

At first i didn't check what got delivered during the covid virus isolation. I just ordered lots of stuff, it came, then in a day or two I'd be wondering why I didn't have such and such. So I began going down our lists to see exactly what was missing. Ordered three avacados, got one. Billed for three. Ordered cut watermelon, didn't come. Billed for it anyway. And so on. There appears to be no easy way in the delivery system (that I could spot quickly) to report back on over charges for missing items. I suspect an intentional con going on somewhere in the mix. So we had to make a phone calls, and after each phone call were refunded stuff that was never delivered. One more order and once again, many missing items we were charged for anyway, but even the phone calls are such a nuisance since it's always someone who doesn't quite know their own job very well. So. The choice is to make a phone call after every single order ever, or just pay for stuff they don't deliver. The third option was to give up on Safeway. read more

What makes this store so great is its management and employees. My wife and I have gotten to know Brian Shaw, the manager, and we've never met a friendlier and more personal manager of any store. He'll do his best to fill a special order request. And there's Dac, the meat department manager, who will do whatever he can to fulfill a special meat request, and will also point out great deals for meats on sale. He's trained his staff to provide this same high level of customer service. Mike and Dee Dee have also provided great customer service and help when choosing meats and seafood and with special orders. There's Ken, the produce manager, just a super nice guy. Again, eager to fulfill a special order if her can source it. And he does what he can to keep the produce department attractive and stocked with fresh produce. Dwayne is another great guy who works in produce. We've known him since the time he worked for the Safeway in Port Orchard. Lastly, Claudia, one of the checkers, is a gem. She's fast and accurate, and even makes paying for groceries a fun time. This is a small, older Safeway and it lacks the selection of the larger stores. But you will not find better people, or anyone else more committed to providing the best in customer service to make their customers happy. Brian, Dac, Ken, and Claudia have become friends who we look forward to visiting and shopping with every week. And looking at how busy the store has become, a lot of shoppers feel the same way. read more

DONT SHOP HERE. Full of drug users and its gross! And when you actually pay for your groceries you get stuck with half eaten jars of peanut butter. Bought a cbnuts $12 jar of peanut butter. Didn't keep my receipt. Got home it's half eaten..... someone's fingers were in the jar you can see the finger marks. GROSS Went to exchange it, was denied unprofessionally by Micheal, the night "person in charge" treated me as if I was trying to scam Safeway. He was so rude and out of line!. We play Monopoly. They carry the brand of soy product that other grocery stores around don't. These are the ONLY reasons I go to this Safeway. Every time I come here, customer service is lacking in full. I've had it. And unlike every other Safeway I've ever been to, the produce section is in deed picked over, sad, and just plain wack. That'd maybe be excusable, but the employees (with the exception of the Starbucks) are not. The deli counter for example, is staffed with docile "deer in the head light" workers, who pick and choose who to help first, instead of referring to who's been waiting longest, or if a line was somewhat assembled. Today, two employees were just standing, stareing over the hot counter, acting as if they were bugs attracted to a heat lamp, doing nothing. The small girl with glasses supposedly Manning the deli bar, decided to look past my mother who had been standing directly in front of her for 5+ mins and ignored making eye contact while helping the woman who just walked up pushing her cart (rude). No one acknowledged our existence or threw out a 'ill be right with you' etc If my sweet mother didn't pull me away and give up, ushering me to check out, that deli girl would've gotten an ear full, that's my mama you're mistreating little girl! The cashier's are the worst however. If not snidely sarcastic and passive, then babble mouthed and upright rude. Idk what's worse. Them barely talking and making snide remarks, or them talking too much and saying inappropriate garbage ("the powder from these donuts will look like crack on your lips"/"oh you're having a girl? I'd rather have a boy"/ "I'm not going to bag this OK? It's obviously not gonna fit" blah blah etc etc) It's 5$ Friday, and it's not a mad house like all the other Safeways. This Safeway is less like a grocery store, and more like a giant 7/11 in a kinda shady, kinda dirty part of town. You know the one, the one that you don't really like going to, because the selection is picked over and not that good, the floor is sticky with...something, and the line is long for no real reason, and the person in front of you has that gross sweet smelling B.O. You know the 7/11 I'm talking about. Every town has one. This Safeway is like that, except it doesn't have the self depreciating dignity to actually be a 7/11. It's actually a grocery store. There's tons of grocery stores within a few miles of every cardinal direction of this Safeway. Just go to those ones instead. read more

I've never been a fan of this store. Not only is it in a bad area, but there is always a ton of people inside and outside with hoodlums hanging out in the parking lot as well... As far as prices, there are some good deals, but I've seen some things marked way up here in comparison to some other stores I've been to, for example the all natural fruit smoothies (odwalla, naked, etc). You pay a buck extra here versus QFC (which is surprising because I normally dub QFC "Quite F***in Costly". I'd also like to state that the quality of their produce is pitiful and the only dairy products they seem to really carry are all Lucerne. Which, I've had some gross stories as far as Lucerne goes... There were several dogs in the store when I was there. I complained to the cashier and she told me she wished they could do something about it but the manager just lets anyone with an animal in. I sent a complaint to the corporate website and they told me that they dont ask if animals are trained service animals because it is a violation of the rights of disabled persons. Apparently they are not concerned about violations of the law regarding NON service animals and food establishments. There ARE questions that they can ask. Turning a blind eye is a disservice to those of us who dont want to see pets in the store and to people who really do have service animals. read more

Workers are nice. Store is well stocked. Bathrooms are kept up on although you can definitely tell this stores in the city, due to the lack of detailed cleaning. This is the worst pharmacy I ever been to. Even the walmart has better customer service and quick to deliver than this place. Many times I had place a medication for pick up and 1 hr later, prescription is not ready. Ok fine, but this time they over did it. I place an order ONE DAY before pick up and place another one 1 to 2 hrs before on the day of pick up. The one I had a order a day before was NOT ready! And the one I had order 1 hr ago, they forgot about it! Now I have to wait for them to get my prescription.....I am literally waiting here for it..also the pharmacist and the lady there seem to hate their job. Customer service is absent. Standards are not being kept. Just came in for China Express and the worker said that he could serve me, but asks what I was looking for. That he made a bunch of meals already. I said sesame chicken. He said, yeah, I already made that, it's over there. I find what he's referring to in a nearby cold case. way too small for a family of four, and no egg rolls. Didn't want to heat my food, and no, I will not burden you to serve me. I'm an old guy. I don't get around very well in recent years. The Callow Safeway is my go-to grocery store a bit over a mile from my home. I shop there twice a week. There's handicap parking and a store mobility cart available for me about 95% of the time, 100% if I shop off-peak hours. The selection is good, the prices competitive, and the place is clean and well lighted. The hot deli is heavily Chinese food and fried chicken. While the food is very good, I'd wish it more diversified but they do a lively business so maybe it's me. I love the sandwich bar where they make you exactly what you want the way you want it made and the self serve hot soup is excellent and well tended. I get my medication at the Safeway pharmacy where they offer flu shots etc in season. The test of an enterprise is not the rare error but how quickly they provide remedy. These's been a few mixzups in my medications (change of staff at my physician's office) and after a little back and forth (unbenownst to me) the pharmasist promptly remedied the issue. I've been shopping at the Callow Safeway since it opened for business in that location in the '60's. Not once in all that time have I felt irritation, much less a need to complain about the staff, service, or clientele. I've looked through the negative revews. I'd suggest that a potential shopper disregard them as sorehead responses to mispercieved single incidents. Sometimes in miserable weather you might find street people in the dining area catching a few minutes of warmth and comfort. My experience is most are gentle souls with good manners, often with a good turn of conversation if one cares to engage them. Finally, I'm grateful to the people at Callow Safeway for being so helpful (often more than I really need) to a gimpy old guy find stuff, help load sacks of groceries, etc. read more

I was going to use this Safeway because of the convenient location. That is the only thing this store has going for it. The cashiers are in automatic low except when it comes to their breaks and conversations with their fellow employees. When asked a question you either get the blank stare or rude answers. I have gone in at different times of the day and have found dogs in the store . When I complained especially after seeing one of these animals pee on the merchandise in the baking aisle, I was told the manager will not enforce the rule. I Now go to the other local stores. For all the convenience of Safeway I cannot put up with rude unprofessional people and in the end come out with dog pee on my flour. read more

Crappy food they have.over the years they have cut employees down so they pay less and they work harder,especially at evening,night times.produce is mishandled and freezer burned some of it including melons and watermelons. This use to be my neighborhood store and I've been a loyal customer for years. Bad parking, stinky bathrooms and local crime didn't stop me before from shopping there because there were so many great employees and it was the closest store to my house. There are still some wonderful people there, but too many of the checkers are subpar now on many levels. Some too personal, others critiquing what you're buying, and other rude behavior. I just quit going, which is sad because I have to drive an extra 5 minutes now to shop and I'd rather support my own neighborhood than drive cross town. It's worth the drive though to avoid the general unpleasantness of the establishment. read more
