I like coming to Safeway because the things I buy here the most are almost always on sale. There's even a Safeway app that has coupons in it, sometimes for free items. The fruits and vegetables are in great condition and the meat selection is ok (times supermarket is better for meat selection and pricing). I come for the juicy watermelon and fresh cold li hing pineapple. The only downfall here is it's hard to find an employee to help me if I need to find something. Especially in the evening. There's a customer service window in the back but there's never anyone in the booth. The checkout lines can get really long during peak times, but they are pretty good at calling for help. I was really surprised by the bad reviews of this place cause I liked this grocery store very much, inside was super clean and nobody seemed to be in a bad mood but maybe I caught them on a good day. I was excited to see they had their own brand of organic food items and a good selection of organic produce which was a surprise. I enjoy shopping at Safeways nearly every Friday...The service folks there are always helpful and polite. My gripe is that when I tried to call for product information; after 4-5 tries I gave up. No response. I tried getting through to most of the departments but their phone is just not putting me through; no answers. The store was still well-stocked, and thanks to their new shopping carts, there were plenty of shopping carts without having to lug around the heavy baskets. I went there to purchase food for a bbq & wanted to purchase a case of beer as a gift to the person who's birthday it was.. the cashier I had asked me for my ID which I then presented & he told me he couldn't accept it because it was a temporary copy.. It's a legitimate form of identification but OK.. anyways, I tried handing him my expired ID, which he then said he can't accept because it's expired.. annoyed, I just said never mind on the beer.. I just want to say thank you to the young man (must be new because I've never seen you before this time) who was my checker on 11/14 at around 2:30pm. You asked me for my ID upon which you noticed was expired and I had absolutely no idea. This was a blessing and I'm so grateful that you noticed and followed procedure because on December 1st my fiancé and I are taking a trip back to the mainland to get married. If I went on to not notice that my ID was expired it would've complicated so many details of our trip and who knows maybe we would've had to cancel/postpone everything! Service: Usually customer service from Safeway is great. You receive a nice greeting and the occasional "Are you finding everything okay?" question...from every worker in the store. At this location, there really wasn't a lot of workers to be walking the aisles to greet people. Perhaps they were all the registers?? Poke: We love poke. So since we were in the area, we decided to check out their poke selections. We got help from one of the workers to get a wee bit of their FRESH Spicy Tuna. Yes, the word FRESH caught our eyes. Another thing that caught our eyes, a FRESH cut OPEN WOUND from the server that helped us AND HE WASN'T WEARING GLOVES. We ended up leaving the poke on the counter and left the store. read more

This Safeway usually always has a parking spot near the front entrance. It's pretty clean and workers are friendly. It is smaller than most Safeways I've been to. It's almost the size of the Salt Lake location. The liquor/beer section is SUPER small. So is their produce section. I was disappointed because I needed cilantro and there were only two left. But they were so rotten most of the leaves were black. I don't even know why you'd even put them on display. However, you can find some good finds here such as the limited edition chocolate chip cookie Coffee mate (when no other store had it), awesome Lay's chip flavors such as Greektown Gyro, and yesterday they had fresh corn on the cob in the husk for 3 for a dollar. read more

17 July 2021 This Safeway is fantastic! A little hard to find, but definitely worth the hunt! The store is immaculately clean, well lit, and arranged. The employees go out of their way to help you and really seem to LOVE their job. I think the people in the delicatessen must have fans that blow the smell of everything they're cooking , through out the store! The moment I walked in and smelled the food, I forgot what I came in for. No, I thought that's not what I'm here for! I got what I came for and headed to the deli! Bad idea! Too many choices!!!! Narrowed it down to chicken but still left with 4 choices - told the lady it was hard to decide- she said "Get a few of everything!" Duh, I never thought of that - regular, BBQ, Teriyaki, and hot. I love going to Safeway because they have a full bakery here. I first found out that they customize cakes from my bestie. I had first ordered a quarter sheet cake from here for my husbands birthday some years back. And since he loves strawberry shortcake, they could make something similar to it. After tasting their version of strawberry shortcake, we loved it so much that this is the only place I go to order a good tasting cake. It is so easy and convenient for me since it's not too far from where I live, so I usually just drive here, usually about a week in advance to pre order a cake. They are very accommodating as far as how far in advance you can order your cake as well. I literally just found out that you can order it as late as 24 hours before the time you'll need it! If I'm looking for a good cake, I'll always go to Safeway. The price is reasonable and it tastes good as well! It's a win win for me! read more

The manager of this Safeway should be asked to do a better job. There were no wagons avaliable at 4:30pm on a Thursday afternoon. Several shoppers had to walk across the parking lot just to get a cart. Don't even start me on the long lines because they had only two cashier's. What kills me is that when the corporate office folks show up, this store has every cash register open with absolutely no lines. For everyday groceries, Safeway is expensive compared to Don Quiote; however my 5 star rating is for their bakery section. They have great pastries, cookies and cakes at a reasonable price. You can buy a full sheet of birthday cake, half strawberry and have chocolate. Every time someone makes a good comment asking where we got the cake from and are surprised when we say Safeway. Tray of cookies is $5, excellent to use when making ice cream sandwiches, half dipped in chocolate, individually wrapped and freezed for a cool summer dessert. read more

They keep a person on the disinfectant baskets. Don't be alarmed as the person will look remarkably disinterested in this task. It must be so dull, but I also guess very easy. I just make sure I verbally say thank you. And here goes nothing ... When going through checkout, if you have an item for sale, it's really easy to miss the sticker. Some stores blackout the regular UPC, so you'll be forced to scan the other. I've not gotten a discount item in a while... so the thing is usually you scan this coupon to get 50% off. The odd thing is my sticker had a line through it. Anyway, it doesn't matter cause I forgot about the sticker. I realized it didn't scan once I was at home. So it should have been discounted, but I paid the full price (missing out on a 4/5$ discount). I find Safeway to be difficult because you cannot get the issue rectified over the phone. Many times there was a problem, and I'm asked to return with the items, and so they just go in the trash, Or no money is returned (because I don't have time to come back to the store, who has the time and who wants to return items items ?? Not me). This is frustrating as other stores will fix it asap over the phone if you give them the receipt number. The biggest issue in the past I had with Safeway was realizing something was expired. Not a little expired but very expired. They are notorious for letting things go bad on the shelf. So certain things I don't even buy from them anymore and others if I do buy I am meticulous regarding the best by date. As I've been duped by them way too many times. I KNOW other people have experienced this as even today I was there and on the shelf is expired bread. Not by just a day, either. I've seen things weeks old there. I've seen stuff on the shelf VISIBLY rotten. So I just think their rectification of these issues shouldn't require the customer to track back down to their store. It's a rare issue in other stores, yet they handle their business over the phone. It's prevalent at Safeway, so they almost need a whole standalone app for the problem hahahahaha otherwise, it's a decent store. No one followed me around today. Well, maybe they did, but getting better with their stealth. no it's not 4 stars but look, clearly I know what I'm getting so based off my EXPECTATIONS I feel it was 4 stars and honestly with my expectations in the right place that's how the service feels. But after speaking to the manager he and the bakery fixed my problem. They were able to find a solution to get my cupcakes done and ready for pick up. On Sunday, May 26 at 8:26 am, I first approached Rowena at the self-checkout register to return a few items that were not discounted. Next I shopped for a few more items and returned to self checkout and did two transactions - one for my elderly neighbor. Upon leaving Rowena accused me of shoplifting and asked if I paid for my first transaction that I put in the bag. If she was doing her job by paying attention (and it was not hard because there was just three customers in self checkout), she didn't have to accuse me of such offensive allegation. After I showed her my receipt, she didn't even apologize! I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years at this location and shopped there every week, spending in excess of $100 every week. Generally grocery prices really suck on island as a whole unless you hit a farmers market or something similar. pro's - 24/7 - parking is ok - usually clean - lines can be bad every once in a while but usually move ok - red box here - change machine - nice staff cons - prices suck everywhere but sometimes this place still surprises me with the high prices - i don't trust doughnuts here. Sadly, this review and rating for the Bakery department. Where do I begin with this?! First, I do know that I decided very last minute to order my sons birthday cake. At this point, we were ok with a plain sheet of cake, but in particular I wanted to get the strawberry shortcake specifically. So I call the bakery (Sunday, September 3rd 2017 @ 1:12pm) and get through after the 3rd call and ask to order a full sheet. The lady could not understand what I was trying to order. After 3 attempts to explain what I want, she says "We don't have a decorator today, sorry we can't make it". Scratching my head, "Okay, so you're saying I can't even get a plain cake with no decorations?" She says, "oh so you don't want design or filling?" I reply "You need a decorator to fill the cake? I don't want decorations to speed up the process. You know what, may i please talk to your manager?". A different lady comes on the phone, "Hi, what do you need?" I explain everything I'm trying to do, get a plain cake of a specific flavor if possible. She says, "ok I guess I'll take your order, I'm getting off in 30 minutes". WOW, just WOW. I understand that I was asking for a last minute order. But I did not have to go through this upsetting and irritating phone call and just being told no would've saved me the time and frustration. I ended up cancelling it and went to the Ewa Beach location. They were not closing early and able to make my last minute order happen. I used to work at Safeway in Salt Lake. When they train you, they make customer service a priority. Today I did not experience that, instead I experienced what NOT to do. For a big name in the grocery industry I hope they can learn to really care about the company they work for and maybe develop a passion to work. Today's the first time in a long time since I last set foot in this particular Safeway. All I have to say is..the elderly wench of a cashier named Bernadette with all white hair should smile & have a better attitude! She was very RUDE & condescending to the customer in front of me..cutting them off when they asked her questions. Then she starts ringing up my groceries as if she was rushing to go on break when she asked if I needed any bags. I told her just 1 bag is fine since I had a few small things to bag. She looked at my items again & repeated in a condescending tone, "Just ONE bag?" I looked at her like, "Did I stutter?" She bags the small items & put them in my cart. This review is for the deli chicken dinners. I asked an 8 piece of MIXED fried chicken and got dark meat only. I had just watched them dump a batch of fresh chicken on the pile but didn't watch her put my pieces in the box. She must have dug under for the old piece because it was old and dry and AWFUL. What a waste. Also don't bother with their mac salad. It's one of the worst I've had. Might as well just make at home... muuuuch bettah! Definitely won't buy premade meals here again.
