Safety proofing and evaluation and sales were excellent. Installation was not. While installing I asked ONE safety question and the installer snapped back "All these items we discussed with you during your sales appointment." My baby's safety comes first and this is their entire job so if if I want to ask a safety question, I have every right to do that. I suggest lots more training for the installer. I was told that the owner Alex gets upset if the job takes more than a certain amount of time as he has to pay them. At 330 an hour for labor I think I am entitled to ask one safety question of SafetyNook. I wonder if I had been a man would he have responded this way? Hmmm. Very quick response time. The evaluation by Joel, who works for the company, was thorough and efficient. Joel gave me many tips that were not related to my buying things (such as taping shut the covers on board games). He opened cupboards and drawers to look for anything that might be inside that posed a threat and suggested I move certain items. He was able to tell me the best tool for the desired outcomes. He provided a very detailed estimate for the cost, including labor. Less than a week later, he was able to bring all the items I needed and install everything in about an hour. Dissatisfied and appalled is an understatement. I hired safetynook, knowing they mark up their prices (by almost 150%) and charge a small fortune, because they claim to GUARANTEE the safety of their items. Until that is, you tell them the product wasnt sufficient in keeping your toddler safe, and than your on your own. I made the poor decision to hire safetyNook for the 2nd time, out of poor desperation when I moved into our new home that had glass banisters by the staircase, and couldn't safely install a pressure gate. They begin by telling you they can only install their own equipment, which is apparently "the best"... even though they mena charging $255 for 3 small sticks of wood, and $170 per gate for gates that retail for $60 in every store. Than on top of that, a hefty $300 per hour for their "superior" installation. As a desperate mom needing to keep my 2 gear old safe, I was willing to pay their absurd prices, as it "supposedly" came with the guarantee of keeping my toddler safe from our steep stairs. The moment they were done installing, my toddler climbed the gate and nearly propelled himself over the top (the installer witnessed this, and responded "you have to teach him no"). Obviously I frantically messaged the owner to have him follow through on his guarantee, to which he began giving me his personal opinions on child psychology ("eventually he will develop a fear of heights" and "once he gets hurt he will learn not to do it again"). Not exactly the guarantee I expected for almost $1000 for 2 baby gates. The conversation continued on to tell me his products are not supposed to be "instead of appropriate child supervision" and "it's not my problem if you don't like my gate". I recommend you stay away from this company at all costs. Rather throw your money in the garbage now, and find someone who isn't out to take advantage of desperate parents who are willing to sell their soles to keep their children safe. I've never had such an upsetting, unprofessional, and rude interaction with someone just for asking them to follow through on their own guarantee. Wow, I just spent over $800 to get my house baby-proofed and it was money well spent. Alex (the owner) gives a consultation but different contractors come in to install everything. The only reason I take off a star is because they moved pretty slowly during the instillation process and didn't clean up after themselves. When they drilled holes into the walls it created a little heap of dust on the ground, sigh. The walk-through with Alex was really great. He's very knowledgeable about how to make your home safe for a raging toddler. For instance, did you know that babies will try to lift themselves up by holding onto the oven door handle and that's why you need an oven door lock? He is an encyclopedia of baby safety and I never felt he was fear-mongering me to buy more baby-proofing gizmos. read more

First, I suck for first writing a negative review of these guys. My four and three year olds were having issues with opening their gates. They seem to do okay with it now. My three year old woke me up (mom of four kids - you can imagine how thrilled I was about this) because he couldn't open the gate after it was first installed My four year old was climbing over it instead of opening it. So, I wrote a negative review of this place. Alex responded with utmost professionalism. Then, my three year old and four year old figured out how to use the gate and I feel like a total jerk for writing a negative review here. I'm fixing that now. There were many missing pieces in their logic The visit was good; almost $100 and some good tips and recounting a few incidents of recent baby accidents in the news then came time to install 1- they installed safety on one side of the baby crib but forgot to do the other part 2- they installed a baby gate on lower floor between kitchen and rest of apart, but did not suggest to install a baby gate at the bottom of the stairs. our baby climbed up the stairs and almost fell from the top (what for having a baby gate at top only?) 3- the baby gate they installed is not easy to operate and is cheap 4- they "supposedly" installed safety for the oven, but our baby got burnt the week later 5- i requested information on what they installed and they claim to design their own material 6- very expensive installation (almost $1000), and it was so basic. i could have done it with $100 using a cheaper handyman. They were done within 2 hours despite wasting time and 2 guys looking at each other in short, the value was really not there and i didn't feel they were on top of the game. I am so happy that I hired this team to baby-proof my apartment. Their work was thorough and done quickly and cleanly. Our twins figured out how to open drawers and cabinets the day after they installed the latches; and they started crawling about a week later. At least once a day I think to myself, "that would have been really dangerous if we didn't baby proof!" Everything they installed was also fairly decent looking. We highly recommend Alex/SafetyNook! He is professional, nice, knowledgeable and efficient. He charges only $40 for his consultation, which involves 1.5-2 hours walking through your home and recommending how to make it safer. If you choose him to install gates, latches, etc, the 40 dollars is refunded to you! He charges $80 an hour to install whatever you choose from his recommendations, which is well worth it. In four hours he completely baby proofed our very child unfriendly house! It would have taken my husband and I an entire weekend to do it! Alex is never pushy; he makes recommendations, but leaves it entirely up to you to decide what you want done. He even tells you where you can buy the gates yourself to save some money (or he'll get them for you if you're lazy like I am). Not only does he save you time, but he could potentially save your child. These guys are awesome. Not cheap, but do you know what else isn't cheap? Taking your kids to the ER for something that you could have prevented. Also, hubby and I want to spend our evenings/weekends playing with our kids, not installing 15 dozen latches. Alex (the owner) and one of the installers (Marlon) showed up for a thorough walk-through of our home. They both had great ideas about babyproofing. One thing I really liked about them is that they didn't push for fixing every little thing. Don't get me wrong - I don't want my kids to be able to electrocute themselves nor have a giant bookshelf come crashing down on them. But kids really need to learn for themselves that closing a drawer on yourself will hurt, and hopefully they stop doing that on their own. They also had a lot of common No cost for the walk-through, but I did put down a deposit to have them return to do the majority of the work. I think usually the cost of the walk-through is applied to the total installation price. If you're super-handy, are low on funds, & have some time on your hands, you could probably manage to do it all yourself. I'd recommend paying them for a walk-through so that you can be aware of the dangers. The babyproofing required for our place took 3 people (who knew what they were doing) almost 4 hours. The crew of 3 were timely and respectful - like the other set of installers that day, they also removed their shoes without asking! So awesome. They worked quietly (of course, drill noises everywhere, as can be expected) and efficiently. You know how when you pay someone by the hour, you sometimes think they'll take longer? Not them. They were on it. One random thing - I swear each person looked no older than 21. Is that how they hire? I'm kidding. They're awesome.
