Full disclosure: I am the parent of a newly-admitted DC Freshman. I also was accepted years ago at…read morethe Dickinson School of Law, which is un-related to DC but sits at the edge of its campus. As such, I've been to Carlisle a number of times over the past 30 years, both as a prospective law student and as the parent of a DC student. Here's my "review" of Dickinson College and the surrounding town/area... Beautiful campus, strong alumni network, including extremely successful alums like the CEO/President of LL Bean. Numerous awards for being a top-rated college as to sustainability. Responsive staff. Small student to teacher ratio. Encourages students to find their passion, so interesting combinations of double majors and majors/minor abound, and students don't declare their major until Jr year, I believe. Encourages study abroad and for a somewhat unique statistic I think, Dickinson states that 60% of its student athletes do so, with the coaches' encouragement! Dickinson is what it appears to be, "family" to its alumns and students. Extremely supportive all-around. Location is close to Harrisburg, the Commonwealth's capital, as well as an easy 1.75 hour ride to Phila area (85 miles in my case!) as a straight shot down the PA Turnpike! One comment stated this is a boring school with nothing to do. That's ridiculous. There are attractions within an easy drive, _lots_of activities on campus, and a growing diversity of students. And, to callously call the surrounding area as being full of "red-necks" is nonsense. As a former diversity trainer with a major Fortune50 company and within the USCG Aux, that statement really jolted me. The folks in Carlisle may be more rural in background than say someone from a city or a suburb near a city, but they are welcoming and friendly. Judging an entire community based on some interaction had with one or two (perhaps) is simply unfair to the community as a whole). Go Red Devils! PS To YELP: Why the heck would you NOT recommend the 3 "Not Recommended" 5-star reviews that were well-written, thoughtful and gave details upon which the reviews were based? And, from both students and parents! I don't get it! If they were included, DC would have a near 5-Star rating which is more in-line with what I've experienced via the many alumns I've met, both at DC functions AND by pure chance in the "big outside world" where they had no reason to be biased in their view...i.e. I met them via normal, everyday encounters via my job, etc!

Penn State Harrisburg is an incredible place to study, especially for Computer Science. It's the…read morelargest branch campus in the Penn State system, which actually makes it bigger than many standalone universities across Pennsylvania. That size brings the best of both worlds: the prestige and resources of a major research institution, combined with a close-knit campus community. The Computer Science program is particularly strong, with professors who genuinely care about student success and coursework that builds real-world technical skills. There are also plenty of opportunities for research, internships, and networking with employers. Campus life keeps growing each year, new buildings, more student organizations, and tons of events that make it easy to get involved. You can tell the school is investing heavily in its future, and the student population keeps increasing because of it. Overall, Penn State Harrisburg delivers an outstanding experience, academically, professionally, and socially. I couldn't recommend it more highly, especially for anyone pursuing Computer Science or Engineering.

This is the worst university I have ever graduated from. I have attended and graduated from three…read moredifferent universities. Penn State Harrisburg is outrageously expensive and the quality of education is not near worth what they charge. They don't treat students very well and I could give many examples of that. I had one professor who was given three classes to teach for what she had. Absolutely no qualifications to teach. In one class she relied on the students in the class to help her teach the class and would rely on calling her son during class. At one point I got an email from registrar threatening to cancel my classes because they said I wasn't attending classes. I called the director of registrar and told him not only have I not missed a class. I had never even been late for a class. I completely chewed him out. Most of the class content of the classes had nothing to do with the major and the field that I was pursuing yet they charge top dollar for it and once they got my money they couldn't have cared less. I moved across the country and was hoping to get a graduate assistantship which pays my tuition. They didn't even tell me until I got here from California that I had to take the GRE to even be considered. So I took the GRE and never got the graduate assistantship and they wouldn't even inform me and let me know. In my opinion and my experience, Penn State Harrisburg is a completely unprofessional discombobulated poor quality shabby institution that charges probably 10 times what they should charge for the quality of experience in education they provide. I WOULD NEVER TELL ANYONE TO ATTEND PENN STATE.

I'm sharing our experience because I believe parents deserve to know how concerns are handled at…read morethis daycare. First, I want to say that most of the teachers we encountered were wonderful and incredibly loving toward the children. My concerns are primarily with management, their communication style, and how serious issues were handled. The catalyst for us switching daycares was an incident I personally witnessed where a teacher angrily put his hands on another child and pushed the child into a chair. Although my child was not directly involved, I immediately became uncomfortable leaving my child alone with that specific teacher. I immediately reported this to the owner as I was on my way out the door, but the teacher continued working at the daycare. I received no follow-up from management until I requested to withdraw my child and verbally complained about the lack of communication when asked why our family was withdrawing. When I finally received a response, I was told that the teacher said he had not touched anyone. This was extremely concerning because I had personally witnessed it. After several days of deliberation, I contacted ChildLine to report my concerns. It was not until the state became involved that the teacher was ultimately removed. This was not our only issue with management. There were also ongoing communication breakdowns. For example, parents would receive emails about special events or policy changes that the teachers themselves sometimes seemed unaware of. It was clear to me management did not adequately support or communicate with its own staff. Ultimately, the lack of communication and the way this incident was handled caused me to lose confidence in this daycare. There are genuinely caring and wonderful teachers there, but as a parent, I need to know that my child is safe and that serious concerns will be taken seriously. Unfortunately, we reached a point where I no longer felt that way, and we chose to move our child to another daycare.

Instead of helping or guiding her, the teacher let the student struggle for over two hours. During the service, I told the teacher that the cut looked nothing like the picture he showed them. She yelled at me saying he asked for something different. He said that was not true. In the end, the teacher did not fix the haircut which meant my son had to walk out the door like that. He wore a hat so no one could see the awful cut. It was late when they finally finished. My son went to a barber the next day. The barber laughed when he took his hat off. He explained that it was done at Empire. The barber shop was full and others were making comments on how terrible it was! This is NOT the fault of the student. The teacher seemed totally incompetent. She did not direct the student, was rude to us and was apparently unable to fix the mistakes.
