I found Don Rudolph - owner of the Winter Park Driving Academy, LLC thru the DMV listing for driving schools in Seminole County. Don has over 10 years of driving instruction experience. Originally certified in Defensive Driving Instruction by the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council, Don has also completed additional training in Police Pursuit driving instruction through the New England State Police Area. The mission of WPDA is to provide behind the wheel driving instruction with the purpose of developing the highest level of driving skills to the student. We signed up for the Four Lesson (6hr) Defensive Driving Program as this was all the time we had before his appointment for his driving test. (There is also options for Six Lessons - 9hrs, Eight Lessons -12hrs, 10hr Night Driving, hourly sessions and also rental of the Academy vehicle for the road exam at the DMV. Don came out to our house in his dual control vehicle and had my son drive from the house for his lesson. Don gave us an information sheet on what was required for the exam and also the documents that the DMV now require for licensing (US Birth Cert or US Passport, SSCard, 2 proofs of residence). We noticed straight away that Don was a calm, well presented, polite man that put us at ease. After his first session with Don we noticed a marked improvement in my son's driving skills and I no longer felt anxious to have him drive me to practice outside of his lessons, with each session my son improved dramatically. He passed his driving test first try and was extremely pleased. Don turned out to be the right choice for us and I would highly recommend him to anyone starting out or wishing to improve their driving skills.

I felt that I not only gained a new essential life skill, but also worked up good confidence in dealing with road. The instructor is very patient, empathetic and pragmatic. He has a wealth of knowledge in teaching people of different walks of life to drive, thanks to the decades of experience as an instructor!! While emphasizing safety first with many practical tips and tricks for the road, he also taught me to feel integrated with the car/flow and relax as I maneuver the car. I was so stiff at the beginning, but with good coaching, now I'm pretty smooth in handling the wheel. He's also personally very attuned to the driving test, which made me feel well-prepared as I conducted the actual road test. The school is also a certified third-party test administrator, btw. Some other positives from my experience 1) Signing up is easy! They cut you off while explaining you situation and even if you have years of sobriety under your belt they continue to do things to prolong your stay in the program. As someone who had to go through the program multiple times during my youth, they absolutely don't care what you have to say. Seeing as they are the only game in town, there really isn't anything you can do except let them be rude and take it. I've met so many people in recovery who do actually care. Hopefully they can make drastic improvements on how they treat people who need their help. It was this way 15 years ago and still is.

We got an email confirmation and even a nice phone call a few days before the appointment. However, right before the appointment, the company emailed me (no phone call or text or anything) and canceled part of the package. Again, no phone call. I didn't get the email until I was picking my kid up from school to take her to the appointment. I called customer service, who hung up on me. I called again but they couldn't get us rescheduled at Lake Mary -- we had to go to ORMOND BEACH which looks like a fly-by-night operation!!! The Lake Mary office knew that since they had moved locations, they had to get the DMV to approve the road test. The DMV hadn't approved the roads. The office knew this when they booked. They knew this when they confirmed! They knew this on the day of the appointment. THIS IS AWFUL! Had I canceled like this, I would have been penalized! We had to drive to Ormond Beach (1 hour away) just to take the test - and we didn't get the practice. All the other places were booked for at least 2 months! BTW - the refund claim form wants me to agree to have about half of the fee deducted if they choose to refund it. There is a $15 scheduling fee per appointment & 20% registration fee. I will end up owing them if I ask for a refund! This is stupid! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

It's a very tame and calming pre-test going around learning all the things required of the test. To my experience Yesenia was a wonderful tutor remaining very calm with my occasional minor mistakes and kindly correcting them. In addition the proctor for my test was also very calm and clear, both helping me successfully pass my test without having to experience the stress and uncaring nature of the DMV naturally. I completely recommend this for anyone whether you are nervous and timid driver like me or not.
