What a pleasure to have spent a week here on our 15th anniversary trip to Cornwall... Let me count…read morethe ways: 1) Amazingly friendly and attentive staff!! Aside from your typical high quality boutique hotel customer service, they really went out of their way to assist with all of our needs, from getting us the correct postage for a postcard home, to finding us a breakfast table, even though we were late risers one morning and had only a 20-minute window of breakfast service left, and chatting us up when we asked them all the silly tourist questions about the area. 2) Delicious food!! Most of their food is locally sourced and you can tell by the freshness and flavor. From the fresh veggies, fish and meats, to the local ciders, and the desserts made using Cornish cream... The breakfast was a classic English breakfast, but the ingredients were so well- prepared and fresh, it was nothing ordinary to us. To any Americans who joke about English cooking: you've not eaten the right foods in the right places! 3) The decor!! I LOVE the colorful and whimsical interior design, from the Charley Harper artwork and fabrics to the playful pillow designs and stuffed clouds hanging from the lobby ceiling, there was inspiration everywhere... 4) The location and views!! We had a sea view room and it was worth every penny of our upgrade. The rooms face west, which means sunsets over the ocean every single evening (accompanied by our friendly "pet" seagull who lobbied persistently but unsuccessfully just outside our window for a taste of our biscuits). There is a lovely view of the beach and Mawgan Porth, and the Coastal Path as well. The dining rooms and bar also overlook the water, which means we didn't have to miss a moment of the beauty each night. 5) The spa-resort environment!! We never made a reservation to enjoy the spa activities because we were so busy out and about sightseeing each day, but we did indulge in the locally made, all-natural spa-grade bath products included in our room. The scents of the essential oils were fabulous and left our skin and hair refreshed. I was so sad when I ran out of the last little leftover bit I had brought home in my toiletries, so next time, I'll buy a regular sized bottle to bring back! 6) The gift shop! What beautiful items made by local artists and/ or reflecting the style of the hotel's decor. It was the perfect place to pick up a little extra something to bring back to Mom (as well as for ourselves in a weak moment). It turned out to be part of the Relais & Chateaux Hotel group which I've stayed in, in Napa. Anyway asked the staff if I could be seated for lunch as only one table was occupied, they indicated they would have to ask the chef as they had a lack of staff. Anyway, I was seated and offered a wine and drinks list. Got a lovely Aperol spritz made correctly! The menu is small platoshich was great as it was a very warm day and you wouldn't want anything heavy. I chose the gazpacho and then burrata with heirloom tomatoes and pesto. Both dishes were very good. The tomatoes in the salad were perfectly ripe and the pesto was outstanding. The gazpacho was very good also, very flavorful and spiced just right, not overwhelming the vegetables. The service was slightly distracted, for instance no spoon was brought with the gazpacho and as no one checked to see if the food was ok for quite awhile, I had to wait to eat it. All in all though a lovely setting, wonderful food and a great place to be on such a beautiful afternoon

The breakfasts were very nice and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately I would echo the previous review - we were in a road facing room and as a result, it was really, really loud going late into the night. That was really disappointing, try as we might to put towels around the window but it didnt make any different. The noice actually came from the bar next door and the people in the street - it seemed they would never shut-up! The sad irony was that we had very favourable weather - if it was raining they would have had to have drunk indoors and we wouldn't have had the problem!

We weren't staying here but rather stopping in to try and find a late lunch after an 8 hour train journey from London. We had already stopped at one place that wasn't serving lunch (just sweets). We thought that this place looked rather impressive so we went in. You would have thought that we had asked the staff at reception for a unicorn by the looks on their faces. Is asking for lunch such a strange thing in Falmouth? Again, we were told that lunch service was over, but they did have some sandwiches and they would seat us and we could look over that menu. Since it was late, we were the only ones in the dining room but then again, we didn't expect it to be packed. But when we looked at the menu, we were sorely disappointed. There were only about 3 choices and they were exorbitantly expensive. That's when those words were uttered...and we walked out. It looks like it might be a nice place to stay, but my experience with it is less than stellar.
