I have been a slip holder at Harbor Place Marina for about a decade…read moreIt wasn't the cheapest I could find but it was the closest to my house so the convenience factor offset the cost will never use Harbour place again 1-inaccurate invoicing. On Invoice # 1956WI I was billed for 5 gallons of antifreeze. I didn't authorize any winterization of the water system or head. I performed that myself. Initial thought was maybe the 5 gallons was poured atop the fluid I had already placed. and not being confrontational by nature I paid the invoice. Upon accessing the vessel in the spring of 2024 I found 5 gallons of RV antifreeze sitting in the aft cabin. could these be the 5 gallons I was invoiced for at $21.99 each? which I can get from walmart or amazon for less than $4.00 each. A 500% markup on a fluid never requested seems excessive. also tag placed on trailer by marina staff indicates no head or water system winterization was performed 2-"summerization" Marine personnel tried to upsell me "summarization" services. which included flushing water system of antifreeze , hooking up batteries, and providing and installing drain plug. My response was I can run faucets myself to flush the water system and other items were already included when placing the vessel into the slip by Harbour Place. Why would I pay for those items again? 3-inoperative tilt motor. marina personnel informed me that the tilt motor wasn't functioning and the outdrive was stuck in down position. I agree. the vessel is older and the Motor had been getting weaker, so It finally totally failing wasn't a surprise. What WAS a surprise is that I was informed of this issue after the boat was moved several times ( from lift to storage, can't say if it was moved to wrap it, and then from storage location to shop.) On its own trailer. Finally, I was informed that as a result of the failed tilt motor I would either have to get the motor replaced ( quoted at over $800 dollars) or pay additional fees to have the boat "carefully" moved from the shop to the lift point to avoid dragging/damaging the skag. Were all the other moves before now not careful? Boat was moved at least twice before ( lift to storage and storage to shop) no mention was ever made of the drive stuck tilt down. Finally was told there was an issue and it would be additional charges? 4-ship to shore cable Ever since we have had a vessel that uses a ship to shore cable, I have left that cable plugged in so batteries have the highest charge when marina personnel need to start the boat to navigate from the slip to the hoist point. Boat has a trickle charger that maintains Battery charge when supplied with shore power. Every previous season Harbor Place staff unplug the cable at both ends and throw the cable onto the vessels deck behind the cockpit. Not stowed below. just thrown on deck. OK, fine with me. This season when I first accessed the vessel the Ship to shore cable was no where to be found. It was not on the vessel's deck nor below . unsure if cable was left at dock and stolen by a third party, or if it was misplaced by staff, or something else, we will never know. Whatever the cause, the result is I now have to buy a new ship to shore cable. In addition, no longer offering onsite trailer storage to slip holder over the summer was an issue Haul out and put in HAD ALWAYS been performed by Harbor Place at no additional charge. I had presumed that put in and haul out were included with the slip rental. (which is why I figured there were less expensive slip rentals in the area) In all the years I had been at Harbor Place I was never invoiced or charged for put in or haul out. Call began cordially but when staff learned I had made other arrangements for wrapping and winter storage, tone seemed to change and I was informed haul out wasn't included in slip rental and I would have to pay for the service. When I questioned why those services had always been performed before at no additional charge previously and I was under the impression that those services were included in the slip rental I was told to "read the contract" I did. Yes the contact does not explicitly state haul out and put in are included with slip rental. But it also doesn't explicitly exclude those services either . Since Harbor Place performed those services at no additional charge since we became slip holders at the Marina, in my opinion, this established a standard of care and level of anticipated services a reasonable person would come to expect based on past history. I'm not a lawyer, only a dumb structural engineer licensed in 13 States, so I can't say if the contract language is airtight on this issue, but it is a moot point as we have made other arrangements going forward

Very recently, I was in their office to drop off the batteries for our pontoon boat. That evening, I received a text from an antagonistic individual in the neighborhood which included a photograph of me covertly taken while I was in the Holiday Harbor offices. The text included profanity and threats. It turns out that Charles, the owner of Holiday Harbor, took the picture and sent it to at least one individual in the neighborhood, who then used it to send a threatening message to me. That individual was arrested and, when confronted with his actions, Charles indicated he does this type of thing routinely. I have never encountered a business owner, particularly in a small community, that behaves in that fashion. It is astonishing that a local business owner would act in that manner, intentionally and deliberately creating a controversial and potentially dangerous situation. I strongly recommend, for your own safety, that you avoid doing business with Charles. He has a great staff, but he should not be trusted whatsoever under any circumstances. Regrettably, there is no option to rate this business with less than one star.
