Pros: Love the increasing prevalence of African food in the mainstream. So many new dishes and flavors to try. Because of all the new dishes I don't know about, the guy at the counter was very helpful in making recommendations. The bang for your buck is unreal. Huge app of Kelewele for only $9, very good value, and makes trying the rest of the menu very inviting. The ambiance was warm and inviting and the plaza that the shop is in is very easy to enter. Cons: Can't think of a single con. Tips: Jollof Rice and Stew, and Nii Nii Special. Trust me.

Egusi with fish and fufu

Bussin bussin!! I get the same thing all the time, peanut soup with smoked Turkey and fufu. My partner gets the egusi with fish but has tried it with the smoked Turkey and loves it both ways! Customer service is awesome...I always feel like family when I walk in. It's the closest to authentic since I was stationed in Africa.

Grilled Tilapia

I tried this restaurant on a whim, without my fellow yelpers advice. My intuition was correct! I ordered over the phone, my first choice wasn't available(salad with shrimp). So I ordered the Jollof rice and grilled tilapia. Portions were HUGE and the food was well seasoned and fresh. It's nice to have a African restaurant on this side of Prince William County. The only recommendation I have is to offer the full menu every day. I will be back, I hope the food and portions remain consistent.

Fufu with Soup

Great way to experience new cuisine; nice people who explained the items I was curious about and the food was exciting. It's spicy, but it's accompanied by fluffy starches to help you cool down. 10/10!

Bofrot and Meat Pie

Best meat pies and bofrot (boflot) on the east coast. Seriously these things are amazing. Best in the DMV. I'll definitely be back to eat here every time I'm in town. Go enjoy. Great service as well.

Great good quality. Better to go in person as Carryout orders placed via phone call were never ready when we arrived.

Hajara's Kitchen & Suya Supply - Jollof Rice and Goat Stew

My name alone should be a hint that I don't play about Nigerian food. And what most west African…read morespots claim to serve as "suya" is typically an abomination. But NOT here at Hajara's Kitchen. Here, it was love at 1st bite! As soon as I had my 1st taste of suya, my mind went straight to FESTAC in Lagos (ie: some of the best suya I've ever eaten). This place gets it SO right, I called my sister out of state and told her she needed to try them ASAP...my real time review was so glowing Sis asked me to ask Ms. Hajara if she shipped cross country! Speaking of Ms. Hajara, she is THE sweetest, most sincere restaurateur I've met in years. Her vibe translates to the food: not ONE bad bite. I was introducing my date to Nigerian food, so I kept our choices basic. But even their basic entrees taste spectacular! So I'm sure the spectacular dishes must be beyond....I can't wait to try the rest of the menu... (Ms. Hajara even offered to look into shipping to my Sis). This place deserves to win. And will. I'm a DC resident & WILL make the intentional trek to return. ...and if I find out they deliver to DC, a few Aunties are about to be demoted (shhhhh!)

We ordered the Jollof Rice with Goat Stew and the Potatoe Leaf Stew. All was AMAZING! While we waited, she gave us the meat pies to try, with the perfect amount of curry and spice. She also does trays for events and now we have a place that will accommodate our next family event with the food we all love. Thank you Mrs. Hajara for sharing your restaurant and good food with us. We will definitely be back for more.

We came here on a Thursday night so maybe that's why everything didn't slap as much as I would've liked. The jollof didn't have a ton of flavor or spice, but they have tomato based pepper sauce a medium and an extra hot that adds flavor and spice to the rice. The meat and chicken was a bit dry and hard. The fish wasn't seasoned much. The portions are big and customer service was kind. They had a fairly big menu. We ordered: Suya rice 8/10 (best thing here to me) Attike w/fish 6/10 Jollof rice with chicken and beef 6/10

The food is Ghanaian so you'll find a lot of west African staples here. I ordered their Suya rice with chicken and beef. My wife ordered the acheke with fried fish and ordered a plate of jollof to take home. The suya fried rice was my favorite dish. It's one of their own creations but it's a fried rice with suya spice in it. It's not as spicy as I personally like, but I'm a huge fan of spice so I imagine it's a good level for most people. The jollof was also pretty good. I'll say that the chicken and beef in both the jollof and suya fried rice were a little dry, but they had good flavor to them so it can be overlooked. The acheke was standard for what I expect from it. The fried fish could have used a little bit of seasoning but was fine to go with it. Food took about 20 mins to be cooked but I appreciate that it's done fresh. The service was great! Kevin was the one who took our order and helped us with any additional requests while we ate. Definitely love the soul he adds to the restaurant. The ambiance is pretty casual. The one thing to note is that the parking lot can be a bit small so parking may take more than one try if you have a bigger car.

Deliciousness - 3/5 Happiness - 4/5…read more I always enjoy the chance to experience new types of cuisine, and this is a nice find (especially in this neck of the woods). Featuring food from Ghana, there's a big menu full of adventures! I went there for lunch and ordered a Ghanian classic that I'd never had - tilapia with spicy pepper sauce and banku - which is a huge ball of fermented dough. The fish was good and a very generous portion of the entire fish. I especially liked it paired with the pepper sauce and a second fruity sauce. It came with some peppers and onions on top that I would have much preferred cooked to raw. The banku was like nothing else I've eaten - a light texture (like airy porridge). But while I enjoyed trying someting, it was a bit too sour for me. I didn't get through much of the heaping helping. I also ordered a Ghanian beer (called Charm) that I didn't like. It was like a hoppier Miller Lite, and wasn't too refreshing. The restaurant is gorgeously decorated and had a giant screen playing soccer on it. They had very over-loud music on (had I not been solo, it would've been tough to have a conversation). All the servers were very nice and checked on me regularly, but the service was also very slow (especially as I was one of two tables there at the time). I'd go again (especially to try a turkey dish that looked tasty) and continue experiencing new flavors and preparations. But I wasn't blown away on my first visit.

I really enjoy the food. My favorite item to order is the fried yam and chofi. If you like crunchy,…read morecrispy yam chips, you will definitely enjoy this meal. The meat is tossed in a pepper sauce that is very flavorful and really brings everything together. I've also tried the jollof rice, which was okay, but the fried yam remains my favorite and is always my staple order.

Only to find out 45 mins later thay my driver got there and said they didnt have the order bc their system isnt set up or fufu. My driver said she hates working with them bc they always make you wait. I asked for pounded yams as a substitute. They said they dont sell that there. Even though its on their website. They said theyd give me jolly rice for free too. When my order finally arrived I didnt get my meat pie, ir the jolly rice.. Lastly food is not great. Beef and fish were dry.
