We decided to avoid what we precieved as a PITA at Fisherman's Wharf...parking, car breaking-ins, traffic. Half Moon Bay is only an hour from DNVL at 6AM on a Sunday. Good Call! Capt. Barry was just off the Pacific with Beatiful crab at 7AM. First, I can't say enough about how delightful it was to go down to boat and get a sense of where your crab comes from. Fishermen. Check it out. We got our crab for $10/lb. Live. They have bags, but bring a cooler. Great time kibitzting. So...my recommendation is to Steam these bugs. Google it and don't complicate it. Steamer basket, Apple Cider Vinegar and old Bay seasoning. Do Not Boil! Beautiful Sweet, succulent crab! Thank Capt Barry!!! Best in 20 years Sir!

After pointing it out, they switched it to a platter for 3, but it was still missing crabs and other types of seafood that should have been included. We also ordered clam chowder, which arrived cold. The total bill was $189, but the food we received was worth around $50 or less based on portion and quality. Completely unacceptable and not worth the money. I would not recommend this place.

So we went next door to the actual sit down restaurant. It was our first ever dine in experience. Kinda hard to believe since we've been going to the walkup stand for nearly 30 years but never stepped into the restaurant. First thing I noticed was the size of the place. Ya' all it's small in there. Beyond left of cozy. The tables are close together. I'm not a large person, but even I had to turn and twist to maneuver around the tables while dodging other customers and staff. The view is gorgeous though, I didn't get to enjoy it since my back was towards the windows. Oh yes, you'll have to row-sham-bo with folks in party to see who gets the chairs with the view. Onto to talking about the food... Hubs got the fish n chips. This is one of the items we order at the walk up stand. Classic battered cod fried to a golden crisp. Beautiful golden color crust, satisfying audible crunch, Yum. The fries are thick cut. Very standard. I went rogue trying something totally new from here. I ordered the prawn pasta. With that entree, I received a sliced bread loaf to the table with butter. It was served a bit warm. Tasted great. Nice. Bring on the carbs! The pasta has two sauce options of Italiano style sauce or marinara. II asked the server what was the difference, he said Italiano style sauce was thicker without additional info. So Italiano style it is. The linguine was covered in a copious amount of the sauce. The sauce itself had profound sweetness. My tastebuds debated on liking it. The sauce to pasta ratio was overboard. But the amount of prawns was a nice serving size. The prawns were mixed into the sauce. They weren't easily visible. It was an Easter egg hunt to find them. If I had a choice between the walk up stand or sit down restaurant, I'll go to the walk up shack. Each place has a different menu. My palette and preferences are geared towards the walkup shack. Combination rating of 4 stars.
