Well, it was a good thing we did, since we didn't get to go back for afternoon tea... Just as the name suggests, it is located right by the canal. It was very picturesque, peaceful and relaxing. They also have seating upstairs, and had histories on the canal, with photos posted all around the wall. Their cakes looked amazing, but I decided not to order any dessert on this day. Yes I know, a big mistake! Our friend ordered Heavenly Hot Chocolate, and it looked so pretty! We went with Teashop House Blend Tea, and Earl Grey. The young boy who brought the teas (I hear this is a family-run business) was trying to very careful not to mix them up. But the funny thing was, he totally mixed the tea up! LOL. We didn't realize until half way through... I thought the House Blend tea tasted so much like Earl Grey. For lunch, we had Ham, Cheese & Chutney Sandwich and Eggs Benedict. They were both tasty, nice portion, and filling. Our friend went with something healthier, and ordered one of their vegan sandwiches. It is nice to have that option if you want or need vegan dish. We had a nice quick lunch here. It was adorable and cozy. The food was good, not amazing, but good. I think the sweets might be better than the actual food...I will never know, unless I go back! Lesson learned: don't never expect your plan to go just the way you planned them...and have your dessert first!

The atmosphere is friendly and have plenty of staff to cover busy periods, all which know what they are doing. The owners also treat you as a friend and not just another customer, and are happy to put up local posters/business cards. They offer a wide range of drinks, including excellent ice-cream milkshakes. The reviews appeared to be good on both but sometimes you just never know with reviews. However, this time I'm happy to report that both sites were correct. Bill's was absolutely busy when we stepped in for a late breakfast/early lunch timeframe. We were greeted promptly and sat at a table for two. To our delight, we were able to order from both the breakfast or lunch menus, so that is what we did. My husband got the full breakfast and I got chicken entree with vegetables. Service was attentive and prompt. It shows that they are a good chain restaurant because of the care and organization that is evident in how they run their establishment. Decor is comfortable and interesting and I was glad to see servers working hard - not just standing around. While we don't come down this way to Newbury often, if we ever do again (and we may to go to Winchester Cathedral) we'll probably make Bill's our stop and go to for good food. A paid car park is around the block and close by so no worries on parking either!

Soft yet sturdy crust that crumbles in your mouth, with a soft and fluffy filling, being gently cuddled in there. The ingredients were all fresh and nice quality. We had a pleasant, peaceful, and relaxing breakfast here. The staffs were nice, and they will leave you alone unless you need something. The coffee and food were very tasty with good quality. And if you need any used coffee grounds for fertilizing your garden, health & beauty tricks, odor control, or whatever else you can use them for, they have them out by the door for you to grab!
