The room was dim and she had more or less a spotlight on me. I felt very self conscious. I was fully clothed of course but this spotlight situation is pretty much how the whole appointment went for 2 hours... I came in with a very complex case history and a myriad of very severe and urgent medical problems. She told me that I was "just in time for her spring cleanse." I was wondering, how could my symptoms be just in time for your sale? This is one thing that turned me off to her practice. Ultimately she sent me away that day with pink Himalayan salt... when I was experiencing severe neurological blackouts.... The next thing is that her office assistant would not stop calling me after the first appointment. It was bordering on harassment. She said that Dr Karuna urgently needed to speak with me. When I asked what for, she said just come in for an appt. Well, the next appt was around $500... I said, if she urgently wants to speak with me, she's welcome to get on the phone with me. But, she never did. I never returned. One good thing I can say about Dr Karuna is that she told me to always believe in myself and my symptoms and never let a doctor tell me my symptoms were all in my head. It was an empowering talk. In any event, it turns out I have Lyme disease which she didn't bring up, mention or question in the entire 2 hours. One more dr who should have guessed it but didn't in the long list of doctors who missed my diagnosis, leading to late stage. Wish I could get my $ back from this practice to spend on treatments that would help my actual disease, but that would be like getting blood from a stone.

There are a lot of things that I really like about Dr. Salzer and I'm glad that I came to see her when I did. Take this review with a grain of salt as I'm new to the whole psychiatry/mental health thing. I think mental health is one of those things people ignore until they really need to do something about it and if you've been unfortunate enough to immediately need someone to talk to, you know that psychiatrists (those that can prescribe you magic pills) that accept your insurance are like unicorns. ZocDoc lists only a handful of them and most don't accept insurance at all. If you're lucky enough to find one that accepts your insurance, there's about a 2 to 4-week waiting list before you can see them for the first time, if not longer (and not all of them are accepting new patients. A couple of them never actually returned my call!). It's like trying to find a senior software engineer in the Bay Area. Dr. Salzer was able to see me within a week and she's very up front about how much she charges per session, payment methods, and what to expect from the first session. She doesn't accept insurance (you can still submit them for out-of-network coverage). She also has a great schedule that allowed me to see her on a short notice. What I don't like is that I felt really nickel and dimed. The first couple sessions are useful, but I felt almost immediately better after starting on a small dose of happy pills. Even though my meds were working effectively for me with negligible side effect, she insisted on seeing me once a month, which is more frequent than most (typically, shrinks insist on quarterly or even twice-a-year check-ins once you're on meds that work for you). So, yes, I would recommend Dr. Salzer if you need to see someone soon while waiting for an in-network shrink, but be prepared to pay $300+ for the session.

I booked an appointment specifically for an ADHD assessment, clearly stated as such. That was the entire purpose of the visit. Yet, during the call, Dr. Pell casually informed me that they are not conducting ADHD assessments at this time and may resume, possibly in January or February of next year. This immediately raised a red flag: if you are not offering the service, why accept an appointment for it? Why bill insurance for something you never intended to provide? The entire interaction lasted 18 minutes, and not a single part of it resembled an evaluation. Instead, we spent the bulk of the time discussing my career. He asked about my former psychiatrist's nationality; he seemed very interested in why he didn't take insurance "as a Black doctor" (which I perceive as a common conflation between race and poverty). He then asked only two quick, surface-level questions about why I was seeking an ADHD assessment. Then in the same breath that he told me they are not doing assessments, he also told me that I probably do not have ADHD. He said this despite the fact that I was coming to him for a second opinion after already completing a comprehensive, legitimate ADHD evaluation with a diagnosis from an actual specialist. (I did not share I was coming in for a second opinion, as I didn't want it to be biased). He provided no testing, no structured questions, no clinical methodology, nothing that even remotely resembled evidence-based practice. The whole thing felt dismissive, and frankly, like a complete waste of my time. I left the appointment feeling misled and deeply uncomfortable, as insurance had been billed for a service that was never delivered. If you are seeking serious mental health care, diagnostic clarity, or responsible clinical practice, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. This experience felt unhelpful and entirely out of alignment with what any patient should expect from a licensed provider.

He is a doctor that looks at the whole patient and makes certain that his patients are thoroughly examined and cared for. The medical staff on site is second to none. The ladies are always pleasant and are uplifting when they speak with you. These women are experts in their field and administer tests and assistance to the patients with love and care. Everything is done onsite, blood work and all. The phlebotomist on staff is excellent. I never feel any pain when having blood work done or receiving vaccinations. Just seeing the ladies when they greet you to come inside puts a smile on your face. I have been a patient of Dr. Majchrzak for over 20 years and would travel from New York to Jersey City to keep him as my doctor. I could not ask for a better doctor.
